Which striker would you like to sign for Liverpool?

striker signing?

i heard weeks ago that the day after the first leg at chelsea , Hicks went to holland and agreed terms with and for Jan van Huntelaar of Ajax for £12.5M, it was apparently a "done deal". Now the striker is beginning to be named in connection with Utd and Juve! Perhaps this is what rafa means when he talks of acting quickly?
Certainly my source is v reliable , i was at a Black tie affair at a judges retirement Do at Thornton Hall Hotel , surrounded by stinking power and wealth and Liverpool directors!! i told the liverpool echo weeks ago. The kids the best in holland and amongst the best in europe so whats the problem?

to be honest, i dont think

tony's picture

to be honest, i dont think theres anything in the Huntelaar rumours. (Not calling you a liar) but 'insider' info doesnt really exist, especially regarding transfers.
If he does, ill apologise to you!

fair enough toe, am keen to

fair enough toe, am keen to see myself? like to think there isnt a hold up and we are back to the quiet liverpol way of doing things?

Like i said, im not calling

tony's picture

Like i said, im not calling you a liar. As a former employee of the club, i found that the majority of rumours we heard rarely came true.

New Striker

We have been down this road before,Chelsea & UTD shop at harrods and we buy from Aldi. The owners have to put there money where there mouth is and buy the best, with money no object. If there are wholesale changes in personnel again this summer, well no doubt struggle to get of to a good start in the league again, finish 2nd at best, and the process starts all over again,we need creativity and a nailed on 25 goal a season finisher.Cant see any of the names linked so far, hitting the ground running.

new striker

am a little concerned with the mention of gabriel millito, quite simply, 2nd choice not first? what do you think?

milito

Milito is a centre back at real zaragoza, not a striker.

There are two Militos at

tony's picture

There are two Militos at Zaragoza. Gabriel Milito (defender) and Diego Milito (Striker)

milito

I bow to your superior knowledge. Not a familiar name to me, and there in lies the problem.

ill let you off

tony's picture

Let you off this time!

milito

Thanks for that, who is your first choice and why?.

Tevez

tony's picture

I want us to get Tevez, he is far too good for West Ham, he got off to a slow start there, but then showed what he can do. He can shoot with both feet, never stops running, is fast on and off the ball, skillful, and if Benitez can get the best out of Mascherano, imagine what Tevez would be like.

Tevez

Weve got Kuyt that does the same job, what we need is an out and out poacher,an opportunist, thats why i like Berbatov.

eto

i would like eto he would score us , 20 plus a season . tevez is a good player but not a 20 goal, a season player. as for bent no. i dont rate him at all i would also, buy owen as back up as well. alves yes, vincente yes. as for who should, leave bellamy. and yes maybey kuyt.

Berbatov

This lad has got class,Dont know if Spurs would sell him after one season, and he might be a one season wonder, but looks the part, just another name to throw in to the mix.

Bent?

I have been surprised not hear Charlton's Bent not being mentioned.... in the around the box he is sharp, consitent and commited.

PATO,QUARESMA,ANDERSON,KERLON

I WOULD GO 4 THAT KID IN BRAZIL WE HAVE BEEN LINKED WITH.ALEXANDRA PATO,HE LOOKS QUICK,SHARP,HAS AN EYE 4 GOAL.AND IS ALSO TRICKY,I THNK WE SHUD LOOK 4 SUM 1 YOUNG.ALSO I WOULD GO 4 QUARESMA AT PORTO OR ANDERSON(ALSO AT PORTO).BOTH SCORE GOALS AND ARE REAL TRICKY WINGERS WHO CAN SWAP CHANNELS,THERS ALSO A PLAYER IN BRAZIL CALLED KERLON/THE SEAL(MAN U HAVE BEEN LINKEED WITH)WHO IS ALSO EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED.CHECK OUT THIS LINK(HE WINS ENDLESS FREE KICKS AS OPPONENTS DO NOT KNOW HOW 2 STOP THE SEAL PERFORMING)AND JUS PUSH HIM OVER 2 STOP HIS RUNS..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5LdH_km-_o

RAFA LOVES SOUTH AMERICANS ALSO.
I WOULD ALSO ADD SUM MORE OLDER PLAYERS ROUND THE 23/24 MARK WHO ARE CLASS ADDITIONS 2 AN ALREADY GUD SQUAD WHO ARE YET 2 PEAK.
.ANYWAYS IM NOT THE MANGER AN IN MY EYES RAFAS DOIN A BOSS JOB,HE AINT BEEN ON A LEVEL PLAYIN FIELD BEFORE,SO LETS HOPE THE YANKS BACK HIM N PUT US UP THER ON THE SAME BUDGET.

SPINE

KABURDACUS's picture

I THINK WE HAVE IN PLACE A SOLID SIDE WHO ARE AVERAGING 24/25 YEARS OF AGE,(WHICH IS ALSO YOUNGER THAN ARSENALS)SO CALLED EXPERTS SAY THAT PLAYERS AT THER PEAK ARE BETWEEN 26/29.WE JUS NEED TO BUY GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS,WHO ARE WILLING TO FIGHT 4 THIS CLUB

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AT OUR FAMOUS CLUB ,AMONGST OTHERS

Kerlon Souza / Cruzeiro (C/F)
ALEXANDRA PATO /Internacional(C/F)
RICARDO QUARESMA / FC PORTO(L/W & R/W)
Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira / FC PORTO(ATTACKING MID /WINGER)ALSO WITH Lucas Pezzini Leiva JOINING THE CLUB(BEING NAMED THE BRAZILIAN STEVIE G)I THINK THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT.

ANY THOUGHTS ?

when

i wonder, when we will sign, are first top player this season. and who it will be.i watched milto play last night, i was not impressed at all.we all have are favorite, players who we would like to sign. i just hope rafa, gets what he wants.i cannot wait, for next season, we have to challenge for the title.

RE;WHEN

KABURDACUS's picture

I AGREE WITH U ON THE MILITO SIGNIN,HE LOOKS DODGY,SLOW ON THE TURN AN NOT VERY COMMANDING.
I WOULD A;LSO LIKE TO SEE US SIGN A COUPLE OF OUR BIG TARGETS PRETTY QUIKLY SO 2 SHOW WE NOW MEAN BUISNESS.AND ALSO HAVE OUR OWN PLAYERS EXCITED BY THE POSSIBILITIES 4 NEXT SEASON AND 2 GET OFF OFF 2 A GUD START,BUT WE DO NEED PLAYERS NOW WITH THAT SPECIAL SUMTHIN,SO WEN THE MATCH IS GOIN NOWER.AND WE ARE DOMINATIN.(LIKE MOST MATCHES WE PLAY IN)THESE PLAYERS CAN LIFT THE CROWD N THE TEAM.I WOULD START NEXT SEASON OFF WITH ARE STRONGEST TEAM FROM THIS LAST YEAR(WITH MAYBE 1 OR 2 NEW 1S STARTING)AND GRADUALLY BED THE OTHER LOT IN.WE HAVE THE BASICS THER NOW 4 A GOOD TEAM,WE JUS NEED 2 ADD THE FLAIR 2 COMPLIMENT

Buy big, buy well

There are so many links now it's hard to know who we are after. I hope the link to Matty Taylor of Portsmouth is false as he is not good enough for Liverpool. I would also be wary of paying over 20 million for Carlos Tevez because he is not a prolific goalscorer. Check his record for Argentina.

He scores good goals but he is more a drop off striker who can create chances and score than an out and out striker which we badly need. Eto'o and Villa should be our top two striking targets, unless Rafa will take the chance on Owen. We need a prolific poacher. Also we need creativity in midfield so Daniel Alves looks ideal for the right wing position with Pennant as his cover. We also need a left winger as Kewell is not reliable and Zenden and Gonzales are gone.

sod alves, hes over rated ,check these out!!

KABURDACUS's picture

if we are looking 4 wingers with creativity,check out these lads...THE LINKS ARE BELOW THER NAMES...ENJOY:}
these are players we have also been linked with in news papers and sum forums.and everyone knows rafa loves the south americans

tevez

CKane's picture

I voted tevez on the poll, i've seen a couple of games he played at Corinthians and he was possibly the only great player during the world cup, along with Mascherano. I think he'd settle in well as Liverpool have such a big Spanish contingency,so the language barrier would be much smaller than at WHU and I'd say that his style of football would suit the club.Tevez would easily score 20 goals plus if was in a club with a good manager and a suitable style of play. I haven't seen much of David Villa, but what have seen has been good, however statistically, he doesn't seem to be what we need. I would love to see Eto'o coming to Liverpool and I heard on the grape vine that he'd love to play in a top English club that do well in Europe, but i don't think that he would come to us any time soon, if ever.Things seem to have settled a bit for him at Barce and going by what tony says about transfer rumours it probably won't come true.

only thing about eto

is he aint proven in da prem but would love to see berbatov or tevez thro da shankly gates an if we sell craig bring in owen or as you say take a gamble on eto?

Eto is a hell of a player

Eto is a hell of a player but realistically could Rafa handle a player with such a reputation??? Does Eto sit on the bench when its time for the dreaded rotation ??? Does Eto leave Messi / Ronaldinho / Deco and the super star lifestyle he enjoys in Barca??
There are too many issues n signing the player but make no mistakes he is red hot for any team.

Tevez would be a great signing playing just behind the striker creating chances and scoring and bring attacking flair. Once again though the rotation policy will be the only draw back. Big players have big egos and naturally want to be involved in every game!

I still feel Bellamy has a lot to offer but think Rafa will sell him over a personal dispute! How else can you explain why alberalo gets to play in the champs final but not an attacking threat like bellamy.

All in all a winger / play maker and efficient striker is necessary to reach the next level ... only problem is can Rafa attract them to the club without getting mugged in transfer fees??

missing u guys!!

wamee's picture

i miss Gonzalez. that's all=p

hv a nice day guys, from Wamee.MG11=) of far far away of Borneo island.

Malouda is ordinary

I read now Florent Malouda is being linked and it makes sense as we need a left winger. I don't rate this guy too much though. He is good, but far from great. In the World Cup he was ok and for Lyon it's hard to know as the French league isn't a great standard.

In the Champions League Lyon don't get past the quarters either so really he's not played at a Liverpool level of intense scrutiny of his performances. I wouldn't buy him for more than 8-9 million as he looks like another French flop at Anfield to me.

Creativity

What we are lacking is craft and creativity in the side, particulary in the final third. I think Tevez would be an excellent signing for us, along with the experience of playing in the EPL,he has an eye for goal, great touch and skill that hasnt been seen since the likes of Litmanin or Beardsley even!!!

Malouda i think is too lightweight and form what i've seen on his European adventures, goes missing too many times. A fit Damien Duff would be ideal on the left, however i can see him turning us down for the third time.

On the right countless names have beeb thrown around, Simao( great attitude, skillful player), Alves, Joaquin, SWP, and Lennon(ideally who i would love to see, but could be too pricey)

Upfront front i think E'to would fit in nicely, he is purely and out and out goalscorer, no fuss, back of the net job, ideally supported by Berbatov who is a tremendous player, great first touch and very skillfull. I wonder how much those two will cost, as well its nice to dream

OWEN

CKane's picture

It's in the papers this morning that a group of Liverpool players are making a similar plea as the fans are these days. They want Owen to return to the reds this summer. Why don't people realise that he is just not what we want anymore? What we have up front is a crisis, with Crouch and Kuyt being inconsistent and with Bellamy running offside. We need some who can provide consistency and goals. Does anybody honestly think that Michael Owen can gives that? Or do most people think that the club has wasted enough money and players that have failed to perform and score goals, and that Owen would just be another one thrown on the heap?

n/a

Owen is too much a risk to

Owen is too much a risk to take, the calibre of injuries hes had and the lenght of time hes been off has only inhibited his prgress and performance. If Rafa was to buy him, in all fairness, how many games would we get out of him in a season, 20??, maybe less??.

When he is "fit" and thats a loose term to use when hes lining out, hes normally limping off at the end off a game and back onto the treatment table, its a vicious circle the poor lad is going through and its also a sad senario to see a great player, now really only a shadow of himself, i'd like to be proven wrong, i'd love to see Owen banging in the goals week in week out, but i think its a big risk to take. Maybe Rafa should concentrate on other high quality strikers, the likes of E'to, Berbatov, Torres, Anelka, Villa, Bent for example

owen

whats wrong with you lot.owen is a risk but so are the other, players we want to sign.he is twice, the player bellamy is even kuyt.if owen plays, only 20 games he will score more goals, than anyone we have. i have said this many times, owen knows liverpool, how we play, the others donot.what happens, if we buy eto. and he gets injured. or villa. 15 to 20 mil is a gamble.on any one, who has not played in the prem. remember morientes. leave owen alone if he gets his fitness back he will be superb. his heart is at liverpool let him, come home. and eto as well.rafa donot, let your pride let you down, for 9 millon , he is worth the gamble. bell has allways, been second rate. and kuyt how is he worth 9 millon.

passed it!

CKane's picture

Owen is well passed it at this stage, and he's been far from great since he he went to Real Madrid. He should never have left us in the first place and now he wants to come back because he was overshadowed at Real and Newcastle don't even deserve to be in the premiership. He may have been great and yes he is worth more the bellamy and Kuyt but as i said before HE CAN'T GET US 20+ GOALS A SEASON!!!

owen

like alot of fans, i was not happy when he moved to real madrid.but that is in the past now.of all the strikers , we are surposed to be buying value wise owen , for 9 mill would be on my list. at real madrid he scored more goals, than anyone there. as he did not play many games.we need 2 strikers ,i say owen and eto. and you agree ckane. he is better than bell , and kuyt yet there at liverpool. ask sg,and jc, who they want . its not about friendship. its about class owen is class as was robbie. its time to stop being bitter about mike, remember sg nearly, left and the fans slated him, well its wrong we all leave are jobs , be it for money or whatever, they are no diffrent. in the old days it was diffrent, today its about money.so i know many fans want mike back. we are fed up with stikers who are second rate. owen on his own can not do it but with help he can. i also think rafa does not like him , whitch i think is wrong.the only reason owen did not join us instead, of newcastle was because his agentgave him bad advice, owen was in tears when it never happend, its time to forgive and let all your anger go. wellcome home mike.

hunch

You know I have a gut feeling he's on his way back because the LFC Board will use him a tool to appease the fans who are upset about a lack of major signings. Towards the end of Lil Mickeys LFC career I couldn't wait to be shot of him cos he'd lost his touch and with him we became 1 dimensional .. ball over the top. I was only gutted that he left and we didn't get more cash for him, I felt he cheated us outta that. I would rather sell Crouch and buy anelka / Bent / and a left winger. which lets face it is as much as our budget will streetch this term. Owens inclusion will mean the long ball over the top and I don't want to see a season of that

maybe

tyron, i know were your comming from. with the long ball ie sg to mo.but that was houiller.we still do now for crouch.but as much as i like mike he is not enough we need wingers, and 2 strikers. ionly hope we get them soon, why cant the yanks pay by american express thats how they all live anyway.

RISK***

CKane's picture

Yes fair enough he WAS brilliant and all of us Liverpool fans are indebted to him because he did so much for the club but he is not worth buying.rouman, you say Owen is first rate but to be first rate you have to be fit enough to play and he is an injury-prone player.two strikers with real ability and talent, which of course Owen has, but we also need the two strikers to be able to play regularly and aways be on top of their game, Owen has been on top of his game in years!I'm not bitter about Owen leaving, even though he was one of my favourites, if anything i'm glad that he left because we weren't burdened with his constant injuries. You reckon that myself and so many others should let go of the past and welcome Michael back, well I'd say its those who are calling for him who should let go.In the PAST Owen was great, not now! anyway even in the past Owen couldn't score 20 goals in the league and I keep saying that this should be Rafa's main aim

ok

we all have are opinons. ckane and alot of what you say is right. he has to be fit i will except that.but i hope for your sake and the rest who do not want him back, he does not join the mancs, and scores the goal that beats us. can you imagine that, its just if you spend 20 mill on say villa and he only scores 10 and 9 mill on mike and he scores18 what would you say then you only have to look at, shevenko for chelski he scored for milan but for chelski 0 most scctrikers abroad need time we have run out of that, we need success now i think with the exception, of eto they would all struggle,

fair enough

CKane's picture

Rouman, that's fair enough.I would hate to see him sign for the dirty mancs, then i really would be bitter, not because he didn't come to us but because Owen is a Liverpool fan.Obviously if he did come and score a lot of goals, I would be happy and admit how wrong i was.But at this moment I don't think it would be a smart move. Its been nice swapping opinions with you on this particular subject :)!!!!!!!

strikers?

joza's picture

i would like to see eto come to liverpool as i think he will help us to bring the title back to liverpool and he will score goals (no doubt about that).i think we should buy owen aswell as to partner eto or be back up.The only think i worry about us signing villa is that i dont know if he will adabt to the english league e.g look at morientes. DEFINETLY SELL BELLAMY.

Sebastian Leto

SCOUSE4LIFE1979's picture

Anybody here know that we have actually bought this guy for 3.6 million euros...huge arse 6ft 2in left winger...Guess thats the reason both bolo and speedy are out!!

not all that

Seen him and to be honest he doesn't look all that. Was touted as the next Messi, presumably by his agent because he lacks the skill and wizardry of the little guy and I can not see him making the national team.
If he is the answer to our left side problems just how Palletta was supposed to fit in center back, well then we will have another disappointing campaign!

A lot of small signings

Benitez seems to be signing a lot of young players from abroad. It's always a bit worrying to be honest because Houllier did the same and how many turned out to be any good?

PLus they all cost money and have wages to be paid which drains the club.

We need young players coming through but have to be realitic enough to look at big clubs abroad and see they don't bring through too many nowadays either. Arsenal are an exception; and for all their good football they have declined. Expecting that Arsenal bunch to win the league will be a long wait, I reckon.

So I don't think Benitez should bring in too many young players from all around the world because the odds are 9/10 of them will never be of any use to our 1st team.

Well the current crop of

Well the current crop of Spaniards he's brought in at youth Level aren't much to write home about and it seems that if you are a young exciting footballer then LFC isn't where u go to flourish!! Rafa gets players with the 'right mentality' which translates to players who will do what I say and have no real personality. I know this because he employs the rotation policy as a means of control. A player knows he faces the bench should he stray outta line which is for me isn't the essence of man management .. it's gotta be mutual!!

And it's this rotation that will ultimately stop us attracting the top Europe players because after all who wants to leave their current club where they are worshiped to play just over half the games for a defensive minded coach??!!

de silva

silva from valencia. he looks good seen him a few times, now and he is young enough to learn. fast got 2 good feet, and skillfull. welcome i say

Rafa once again going to

Rafa once again going to what he knows best .. Spanish kids he taught when they were young! First thing.. LFC is not an old boys club and I would appreciate if he didn't try and treat it so! Silva looks alright in Spain but ask yourself this would he make the Chelski squad or the Maunre team on the wings ??? Would he even make the Tottenham /Assnal team ?? He isn't even quick Rouman, and would he survive the rigours of the prem. The guy is at Valencia challenging for the title but wants to leave because he isn't getting paid enough .. considering he's just broken into the first team he needs to chill out! These Spanish guys aren't making the grade so why do we keep shopping there .. sheer madness! I know its only paper talk but over the last 2 days , Malouda and now this Silva have really made me think that we aren't stepping in the right direction. Seriously how is silva a better winger than Kewell and thats the question Rafa needs to ask. If Rafa has a poor season again and resigns or leaves ... he leaves us with basically a spanish squad which is really only good for La liga .. or am i going to far ??

players

tyron. i agree some what to what your saying. but we have crap, wingers at liverpool. i like kewell to, but lets be honest can he play 20 games. i dont think so, there are not, many class players left to buy. vincente, i have said all along is class . i all so like you worry, about all la liga, players not making the grade. i think silva would and maybey villa. i am not sure about torres if he only, scores 10 goals in spain, how many here. thats why i would go for owen. and eto, malouda we do not need he is only average at best. guilly at barca is not bad .if i could have anyone it would, be messi.

I don't know Silva that well

I haven't seen much of La Liga this season to be honest so don't know what Silva is like. I've only seen him in the Champions League and he looked quite good but that doesn't mean he'll settle in the Prem. I'd much prefer Vicente if he was fit because that lad has class.

Malouda, as I said before, is a very risky buy for us. He is more about pace and athleticism than creative skill. A typical Rafa player really but he has the makings of a French flop at Anfield. If we sign him I pray the lad proves me wrong but he has never looked top class to me.

But I suppse what good left wingers are there out there for us to buy? We have to get someone. Kewell fully fit is good enough but we can't rely on his fitness so we have to buy someone.
