I don't think Crouch should start every game. Actually I don't think any of the strikers in the side deserve to keep their places, not cause they're not good... actually it's the opposite. Each and every one of our 4 strikers are good enough, and have DIFFERENT capabilities and assists to their games, keeping one on the side makes the starting XI's more predictable, which makes oppositions more able to handle one than handle 4 in their pre-match plans!
Crouch is great, and so is Torres... both Kuyt and Voronin need some goals to boost their confidence, especially Kuyt who has an almost perfect work rate, yet hardly has the goals to show for it. For a striker, it's the goals you've scored that matter the most.
Voronin needs the goals as well, but to be honest, and very clear about this, if Arsenal had 2 strikers who are hardly appearing on the team sheet having 10 goals between them, they'd be over the moon about it with media muppits claiming this is the best generation. I wonder HOW ON EARTH now on is saying the same about THIS Liverpool side who is yet to lose a game in the Prem ?!!, add to it the fact that we are turning results around with a consistant frequency, like against Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Fulham recently... Sure it's not all LIGHT and CLEAR, but hey that's a BIG A$$ IMPROVEMENT from last season were an opposition can handle us more...

Apparently no one tries to appreciate the good work the boy has done with us. This reminds me when a goallie keeps 99 shutouts, and once a goal get scored in a stupid manner, he's the worst keeper Liverpool had in their history. The exaggeration levels we see around is so laughable, absolutely insane. Dirk Kuyt CAN Score, and he did with us 19 goals so far, his work rate is second to non, and some people should keep respect to some one who hardly moaned about rotation, or gave any stupid comments. Someone always showing up after each and every game saluting us in the stands.
Sure his goal ratio 'At The Moment' is not going well, but I guess Crouch wasn't far worse back in Dec 2005, was he?

I don't say Kuyt is such a bad player overall, simply that he don't fit in the EPL, where its goal that matters not workrate. He can and has been doing good job for us in the Champions league, but he is not an scorer to play in the league, voronin is much better than him and he was a freebie, even lame crouh is starting to get goals although only against poor sides. Kuyt scored 19 goals last season, but against which teams, Portsmouth, blackburn, newcastle..NO!! He scored against likes of charlton,wigan, derby etc.. even caragher could have had done better jobs against teams like that if he was played upfront.

Kuyt scored 12 goals last season alone in the Prem, he was our leading scorer in the prem actually, and the thing is, that's what Rafa is looking for (and I believe he made his ideas clear about it) having 4 strikers able to score 15 goals + rather than have one scoring 20 - 25 goals a season, for a simple reason, he wants efficiency in front of goal. What surprises me is that we don't give anyone a chance. I mean, if we had to judge Crouch on his first few months and him coming from the 2nd fiddle in English football at that time, we should have got someone to assasinate him very soon. Give the boy a break, every striker has problems from time to time, don't give it that much hype like the media my friend. Rafa's ruthlessness in this regard is not questionable, otherwise we'd still Baros, Bellers, Cisse "who scored far more than Kuyt in a single season playing on the wing to let you know"... So this season is a very important one for the Dutchman, if he starts scoring, then he'll keep his place, and keep our critical comments away. He admires his workrate, and will never sell him thats for sure.
Did kuyt ever looked like he will have a coupla of goals in succeeding matches..NEVER!! He scored against poor teams, misses too many opportunities in important matches, runs around the cornerpost most of the time, is with his back to the opponents keeper, pass the ball backwards coz he don't have a clue how to score, don't know to play rapid passes (voronin-gerrard construction for goal in Besiktas game) yet he will be kept in the team coz he is a workhorse, and don't complain even if he is not played.
I won't change my mind if he scores next week, i'll change my mind about him only if he scores in couple of matches....
The blackburn game is ust an example to the fact that he is still the same player that we bought, no improvement, he missed ocasions last year against them making us lose the match, and this season he wasted opportunities ending in a draw..Sahll we wait 3 seasons or what!!!
Kuyt's work rate is not the only prime reason why Rafa is keeping him mate. His attitude is good, he scored a couple of times against Chelsea if that counts for you (unluckily for him, his goal in the CL did not count)... I agree at some point with what you say giving that Rafa is not going to let him leave now, but the thing is Rafa doesn't like to let his prime players leave in January, if you ever noticed he'd let the fringe, reserves, youngsters all leave or be loaned out during that period rather than let the big names leave.
I give him till the summer, if he scored less than 5 goals, I guess he'll be in the press for some times then, rather than that, he should score his goals, and convert his chances more often.

The biggest positive I can take from this one is that we have our England players ready for next summer's pre-season on time and not going to a trounament we know they will hardly win it !!! Gerrard & Crouch are essential to us, and seeing them with us next season ready for the 2008-09 season is good enough positive for me, considering I'm not an Englishman and not an England supporter. You are right, just like garcia lots of spanish players are more concerned by home than money, they will not hesitate to leave in the case rafa leave the club or is sacked, thats also a reason why i've been supporting him though lots of people wanted his head, just think of us losing Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa, and all these may start with the loss of mascherano coz this is the root of all rumours, the negociation for mascherano deal.. and along will come another manager who will start building the team according to his preferences, who will ask us 5-6 more years before he bring the title.. and we'll be singing, We'll always wait alone!

I am a bit optimistic that this is going in the right direction before we really hit rock bottom and we'd be looking at 10 years of rebuilding. As for the mediocre Spanish contribution (not including the Argentinians), I'll be happy to see most of them go especially Alonso. LFC is in dire need for major changes, we are sending good money after bad. I think this naive optimism of " it'll get better by the end of the season" can only contribute to our demise as a top club in PL but the real tragedy would be if Benitez is asked to couch the national team as this will also see the demise of english international football as we know it for years to come. Quite an acheivement for one man to ad to his reseme.
I want to see a Liverpool team that has NO weaknesses and plenty of players to get us through the 70 odd games that are played every season. This requires a strong squad of talented players. If we had that then rotation would be a good thing because players would be fresh and our team could get through the whole season with less injuries and more energy. BUT we don't have that, so i don't think rotation is the best thing to do right now. It's a great idea but not right now. Torres every game and the partner rotated according to the opposition is good with me. Players i don't mind seeing the back of...Kuyt, Voronin, Crouch, Pennant (although we have missed him i think his crosses need work), Sissoko (either play him in defense or he goes) and Alonso is borderline.

So this season is a very important one for the Dutchman, if he starts scoring, then he'll keep his place, and keep our critical comments away. Did kuyt ever looked like he will have a coupla of goals in succeeding matches..NEVER!! He scored against poor teams, misses too many opportunities in important matches, runs around the cornerpost most of the time, is with his back to the opponents keeper, pass the ball backwards coz he don't have a clue how to score, don't know to play rapid passes (voronin-gerrard construction for goal in Besiktas game) yet he will be kept in the team coz he is a workhorse, and don't complain even if he is not played.
I won't change my mind if he scores next week, i'll change my mind about him only if he scores in couple of matches....
The blackburn game is ust an example to the fact that he is still the same player that we bought, no improvement, he missed ocasions last year against them making us lose the match, and this season he wasted opportunities ending in a draw..Sahll we wait 3 seasons or what!!!

Kuyt's work rate is not the only prime reason why Rafa is keeping him mate. His attitude is good, he scored a couple of times against Chelsea if that counts for you (unluckily for him, his goal in the CL did not count)... I agree at some point with what you say giving that Rafa is not going to let him leave now, but the thing is Rafa doesn't like to let his prime players leave in January, if you ever noticed he'd let the fringe, reserves, youngsters all leave or be loaned out during that period rather than let the big names leave.
I give him till the summer, if he scored less than 5 goals, I guess he'll be in the press for some times then, rather than that, he should score his goals, and convert his chances more often.

Well, I don't know how Rafa will asses his options for the Newcastle game, but surely Gerrard needs to take that England game off his system.
The biggest positive I can take from this one is that we have our England players ready for next summer's pre-season on time and not going to a trounament we know they will hardly win it !!! Gerrard & Crouch are essential to us, and seeing them with us next season ready for the 2008-09 season is good enough positive for me, considering I'm not an Englishman and not an England supporter. Though the game went out of England's grasp for a simple reason... they played for a DRAW !!! if thay were playing for a win on their own ground, it would have been much better. Second off was Scott Carson, I'm sure he's a bright prospect for the future, but you don't field him in a decissive game like this, it affects a keeper more than anyone else for a loooong haul, look at David James with Liverpool when he started and how long it took him to become better!
Anyways, Croatia deserved to top the group, they have been exceptional through it out. I don't think Russia or England were on a par with Croatia, but they fought it out, the media made a big hype about it that England should be beating everyone 6-0 7-0, which did hurt the players morale and confidence.

The arguments being put forward for us missing out on Euro 08 are mad. For a start we will have gerrard and crouch back fresh next season, but so will manure and chelsea have ferdinand,brown,hargreves,rooney,neville,lampard,cole,terry,SWP, and on and on and on, we have the least players,
2nd - Not seeing stevie G in an international is crazy, he is 27 now and has 2 tournaments left, the world cup 2010 and euro 2012 when he will be 32. (surely his last at that age)
Crouch would of got better having been playing in a full tournament and if he was still with us would of surely been a plus having another international in our team, we only have 2 as of now.

Loosing Rafa
I am a bit optimistic that this is going in the right direction before we really hit rock bottom and we'd be looking at 10 years of rebuilding. As for the mediocre Spanish contribution (not including the Argentinians), I'll be happy to see most of them go especially Alonso. LFC is in dire need for major changes, we are sending good money after bad. I think this naive optimism of " it'll get better by the end of the season" can only contribute to our demise as a top club in PL but the real tragedy would be if Benitez is asked to couch the national team as this will also see the demise of english international football as we know it for years to come. Quite an acheivement for one man to ad to his reseme.
Rotation
I want to see a Liverpool team that has NO weaknesses and plenty of players to get us through the 70 odd games that are played every season. This requires a strong squad of talented players. If we had that then rotation would be a good thing because players would be fresh and our team could get through the whole season with less injuries and more energy. BUT we don't have that, so i don't think rotation is the best thing to do right now. It's a great idea but not right now. Torres every game and the partner rotated according to the opposition is good with me. Players i don't mind seeing the back of...Kuyt, Voronin, Crouch, Pennant (although we have missed him i think his crosses need work), Sissoko (either play him in defense or he goes) and Alonso is borderline.
