A new era began in 1959 when Bill Shankly was appointed manager, who led the club to the divison two title, 3 league titles, the FA cup twice,a first UEFA cup for the club, and two charity shields, along with introducing the likes of Ron Yeats, Roger Hunt and Ian St John to the club.

In 1974, Shanks announced his retirement, much to the dismay of the reds fans, but Shankly handed his job over to Bob Paisley.

A statue has been erected outside Anfield of Shankly, pictured here:shanksstatue
