BENITEZ'S TRANSFER RECOLD IS PRETTY GOOD
Before you start to analyse Benitez's transfer recold you have to take into consideration the team he inherited, which in my opinion was VERY POOR. He has had to rebuild the side.
In general Benitez has had as many success stories as he has had failures, he usually ships out his failures fairly quickly, and has made a profit on a number of players.He has also had to work under bugetry constraints, Liverpool lack the spending power of Chelsea and Man Utd.
I am going to list the players I feel have been successful and flops :
Successful -
Torres - Reinna - Mascherano - Garcia ( sold too soon ) - Skrtel - Agger
Flops
Moreintes - Nunez - Josemi - Krolkamp - Gonzalez - Bellemy - Pennant - Kuyt - Voronin - Aurelio - Zenden
50/50
Arbeloa (has potential) - Bennyoun(has potential) - Alonso( we should have sold him at a profit to Juventus) - Crouch (given a raw deal) - Babel (early days has everthing to become a success)Lucas (juries out could go either way).
Compared to other managers his transfer recold staks up fairly well, he has bought some duds but he has sold a number of them at a profit, budgetry constraints have often left him to buy a lesser option. Had Benitez had the wealth of Chelsea or Manchester Utd better quality players would have been signed.
As much as I critisize Benitez re his rotational policy and negative tactics, I feel his transfer recold in general is pretty good, he has also invested a lot of money revamping our Reserves and Youth teams, and hopefully we will reap the dividends from those signings over the next few years.
Over 120 million spent inc
Over 120 million spent inc Keane(Not including all the players fees not mentioned) to bring in players and a team still finishing 4th? That is one of the worst records you could find anywhere.
Resale value doesn't matter here to be honest with an outlay of 180 million it should one of the best squads in the league not just an also rans squad.
rafa not bad in transfer market
He is restricted by the amount we have to spend so his record isnt that bad.
He kept gerrard with us, he brought in agger,sktel,babel,alonso,reina,
torres and we can see the quality he is chasing in keane and barry if the funds are released,
He has had few duds, but my favourite one was King Luis Garcia, he was hot and cold, but boy when he was on fire he was pure class, his champs league goals alone were worth the transfer fee and we should be ever indebted to him for it, if he ever heads back onto merseyside for a visit he should be welcomed like a legend, even if he didnt perform all the time.
