First, Lets make it clear, QUARESMA IS GOING TO CHELSEA ALONG WITH PORTUGAL'S COACH SCOLARI!! so please don't moan around that we need to buy Quaresma, coz its not gonna happen, we've already missed the chance on him just like we missed on Ronaldo, Robben, Simao, SWP et..
Now to the point, in the last part of the Previous EPL we chage to Rafa's "a la velencia" style and played with the 4-2-3-1 formation, we almost wen't on an unbeaten run, had we had another holding midefielder by the side of Mascherano in the Match against ManUre we could have had well been able to face them and prevent a defeat, thats why Rafa seems to be so desesperate to Bring Barry.
Ferguson has Hargreaves and Carrick, Hargreaves can even tactically play in defence, as Well as Essien for Chelsea, Who do we have for such a tactical move???
Gerrard has been in a superb form playing behind our lone striker, if we revert back to 4-4-2 he will be played either on the left or as holding midfielder, should we just continue destroying his talent and play him in a position which is not favaourable to the team???
Many People want to have Villa at LFC, But has his partnership with Torres really looked so good in the Euro2008?? As far as i remember, they managed only one goal with their partnership, other assists came from players like Iniesta, cap de villa etc..
Considering the Facts AND NOT THR RUMOURS, i'll still like us to stick to 4-2-3-1
...............Reina.................
Arbeloa.....Agger.....Skrtel....Dossena
.......Mascherano..Barry............
[....]........Gerrard.......Babel
............Torres.................

And may be as Sub Villa or another prolific striker.
4-4-2 is just a loosing formula in the EPL, we need to accept it.

 Subject: I prefer Two Strikers

The trouble with 4-2-3-1 is that it is very defensive, if anything happened to Torres then that system would be up shit creek,I'd prefer to see 4-4-2, as I allways prefer to see Two strikers, 4-3-3 even in home games.

I cannot deny however that 4-2-3-1 was successfull and with Barry may be more so. We played well towards the end of last season, Man Utd were the only team tor really find us out playing that system, but in reality we had an off day and looked 2nd best from the off.

Wether we can win the Premiership playing 4-2-3-1 I'm not convinced, I rather see Barry more advanced and Villa up front with Torres. Intelligent players should be able to adapt to any system

unfortunately last season a number off players wernt good enough to play in any formation. Untill we get rid of the Voronins , Pennants , and Aurelios of this world we arnt going to win a thing, playing 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2.

Playing 4-2-3-1, if something happen to Torres or he needs to be rested we still have Babbel who can play upfront, he showed it in numerous matches, even against Chelsea in the semifinal he scored, as well as his superb performance against Arsenal, i don't think we want to do the same thing we did with Gerrard to him also[playing him off position throughout his whole career]???
Still you can noticed, i proposed we get villa as back up, and may be change to 4-4-2 in few occasions when lower table teams are too defensive and playing with 10 players as defenders e.g Portsmouth
We even have Nemeth, Why is it so important to get another striker and then moan "why does benitez don't give the youngsters their chance?"... I've watched the Nemeth compilation, he seems to look as good as Torres, with a very good workrate too.
By the way 2 are already out [Riise, Kewell] still more to be thrown outside, finally the Winning team is taking shape gradually.

Subject: Criticalmind Agree with you on most things

I'm not convinced that Babel is good enough yet to play up front on his own, he doesnt look that good at holding the ball up and linking play. Babel has got enormous potential and I really hold high hopes for him over the next couple of Seasons.
I agree with you about Nemeth he really looks like a player with an enormous future ahead of him, he really has an eye for goal and I can see him breaking into the team at some time this Season. He may end up saving us a fortune in the transfer market. We have a number of good youngsters coming through.

Re your comments about Degen and Dossena lets see how they go, Dossenna looks a pretty good player and I agree with you when you say that Arbeloa will step up to the plate this season, he has played very well in most games and given a run in the first team will only improve.

We are two maybe three players away from a very good team, I hope we capture Barry , I do think another Forward is needed, and we still need a winger.

Benitez is on the right lines re the areas that need covering, my only concern is wether his on the right lines re the players he is going for, Milner Reira and Downing just aint good enough in my book.

Subject: We don't know yet how good

We don't know yet how good Degen is to immediately put him in the first 11. His CV is not impressive and we have seen Benitez buy the Josemi's and Kromkamp's at right back - who were abysmal players. So we need to wait and see if he's another dud.

Dossena is another one we don't know yet if he'll be any good. We might be forced to play Aurelio or Arbeloa at left back if Dossena doesn't settle in England. These guys aren't exactly proven at the highest level.

Kuyt needs to be replaced on the right of midfield . He'll be dropped from the Dutch team for Robben or Van Persie which proves he isn't good enough to be first choice at Liverpool either.

Even Bentley, who I dislike, is better on the right side than Kuyt. You can't win a title over 38 games with a player in the first 11 who has so little to offer but endless running and the odd goal.

We had a good run at the end of the season when it was obvious we couldn't win the league. Let's see how Benitez manages the pressure of being top of the league for a while and can we get consistent results then with real pressure on him.

I don't care what system we use, because I think no system will win you the title if you buy the wrong players.

i agree with you about Degen, its gonna be much better to play with Arbeloa, if anybody comes to tell me Arbeloa is not good, then i'll ask him to tell me in how many matches or what match we've concede goals from the right side when Arbeloa was playing??
As for Dossena, i have no doubt about his quality, he should be in the left defense right from the beginning, guaranteed to be the best left defender after one month in the EPL.
I'll also agree 1000000..% with you abt Kuyt, i'd rather prefer Bentley than kuyt[Yet we can keep him for Champions league games]
Only one goal from open play in 38 games!! Even wingers from lower teams like Antonio Valencia seems to be doing better, Running around like headless chicken or missing golden occasions is not what we need in a player, we need someone who can at least score 10 goals from midfield!

Subject: If we do get barry and buy

If we do get barry and buy another striker up front to patner torres, which i think we shud do, then the formation will probably be 4-1-3-2...... itll be the four at the back with mascherano sweeping in front of them .... babel on the rite , gerrard in the centre and barry on the left wing... and two striker up front...
think it ll be fantastic for us cos it allows us to attack and barry can sit in the midfield when need be...criticalmind, VILLA will not come to liverpool to be a sub... he will want to start and why shudn he.... if we sell crouch we shud be buying a big tall striker to provide us with a different dimension... kenwenyu jones from sunderland isnt a bad squad player at all... or we could go in for Dean ashton and play him up with torres... lets see what happens..
