The Man Utd / Arsenal myth

Much has been said and written about Liverpool's failure to win the Premiership. But, Man Utd and Arsenal fans forget two undeniable facts that they often overlook :

(i) when Liverpool dominated the League, they played 42 games per season in the old League Division 1. It's 38 now.

(ii) when Liverpool won those 4 European Cups, the only way to enter the competition was by finishing up as League Champions. When Man Utd won the Champions League a few seasons ago, the entered the tournament as RUNNER-UP to Arsenal in the season before.

And as to why Liverpool haven't won the Premiership ? It's not really a mystery.

They have never had the money to buy the TOP class players. Whatever financing they received in the past got used up to buy 3-4 players. Torres and Mascherano are the only 2 world-class players we bought. Gerrard, Owen, Fowler, Carragher, McManaman are all home grown.

A truly TOP class player fits in any system of play in any country almost right away. He doesn't need that bedding-in period.
