XABI ALONSO SHOULD WE SELL ?
There is lots of transfer speculation concerning Xabi Alonso and a return to Spain. Barcelona are reportedly willing to pay 13m for our midfielder , Real Madrid are also sad to be interested , should we sell ?
Personaly Alonso's game has gone backwards since his first season at the club, when he first played for the club he was a real star , spraying passes , scoring goals, a midield player with real vision, nowdays nothing.
I accept he as been injured but whatever way you look at Alonso he is a shadow of the player first bought to the club, somehow he has changed from an offensive midfielder to a defendsive one, ( a victim of Rafa Benitez's negative tactics perhaps ). I reckon we should hold out for 15m if an offer comes in at that price then we should sell. What do you think ?
I think he should be sold - for his own benefit as much as ours. Benitez has ruined him I don't care what anyone says. He was a beautiful passer in the beginning full of imagination and now he's a shadow of that.
We need a player like Deco who can link the play from midfield to attack with flair and imagination. Xavi at Barcelona is another lovely playmaker. However, I doubt they would be the same at Anfield because Benitez would be constantly reminding them about marking their men rather than using their flair.
Xabi Alonso is a great character and potentially a great player, but he won't be under Benitez's rigid tactics.
i think alonso will leave in the summer, if rafa is still in charge. a fit, injure free alonso, on top of his game, wud walk into any of the top teams in Europe. sadly he and rafa have fallen out, and there is only one winner there...rafa. alonso is worth 20m, if carrick, hargreaves are worth 18m.
2 choices here for LFC, regarding selling alonso........
1.. sell him to madrid and do a swap deal with robinho, drenthe, plus cash.
2.. sell him to barca, swap deal with iniesta or eto plus cash.
or 20m hard cash deal.
thats the only price i'd take.
We have to keep Alonso, he is a quality player, alot better than Lucas, he offers alot more to the team, i think we have missed him in the big games.
