Reina
finnan - carra - hypia - riise

gerrard - macherano - alonso - babel

Torres - Crouch

I choose Finnan because he is experienced at european level and would be strong in that position, he doesnt get forward as much these days, however against inter he will need to get forward, they can defend well and the emphasis is upon us to attack them at home, finnan will be against solari who isnt prolific going forward, so finnan should exploit that and push him further back. Riise is the best of what is left at left back and he again is experienced at european level and can go forward he will be up against Figo so will need to be at the top of his game, but figo isnt the player he was, his pace has gone so aslong as riise keeps tight on him and doesnt allow him space figo wont be able to influence the game, he also never tracks back to help his fullback out so if riise and babel fly forward inter could find themselves constantly outnumbered down their right flank. Gerrard speaks for himself and so does mascherano, i go with a strong midfield to keep the ball we are having trouble doing that against the top teams but also our biggest probelem is doing something with it when we have the ball, so babel torres crouch would be the best in attack we can offer, with inter strong in defence we stand no hope of scoring with one up front, rafa must realsie our only hope is to score at home and then worry about the away game, two upfront is only way. If rafa plays this formation and these players i believe we have a good chance, inter are a top side, but mascherano shadowing ibrahimovic, and riise and finnan doing as i stated and sami and carra being dominent in the air to thwart ibrahimovic who is good with his head, we can null what attacking options they have and stick them on the back foot.

That's the best team alright

That's the best team alright stu but who knows what team the genius will pick.

Doubt Crouch will start, bet Kuyt will.

kev j's picture

i can see kuyt starting....

I have a funny feeling kuyt will start aswell 1red1pool rafa will think he got confidence 2 score now coz he scored his first goal in 3 months against barnsley! what a crock of sh*t eh! it will be a crime if he plays kuyt on tuesday but as u said 1red1pool who knows what side that tw*t will put out!

The only trouble is

The only trouble with your team stulivered is that you are not Rafa Benitez. I would bet my last £1 that Kuyt gets to play, which effectivey means us playing with Ten men.

After the Bradford debacle I cannot see us winning this game and I honestly think we havnt a hope in hell of getting Forth spot in the Premiership, Our confidence has been shot away.

Rafa Bentez has single handedly fucked our entire season up, and I cannot see us creating a miricle against Italy's Number One side, who's away recold is very very good.

I predict a 2-0 defeat.

Riise!!! No way!!!

Riise is one of the worst player we currently have in our defence, he has been off form, always shoot pigeons upfront and can't even defend well... If you look at the first goal we onceaded aginst Barnsley you will noticed that the ball came from the left, coz Riise was unable to stop the ball by the lines..how many successful tackle does he has?? inmost of the games he play the left winger need to help in defence most of the time.
Arbeloa should be played on the left, and Skrtel instead of Hyppia.
As for Alonso, i don't know why you involved this guy in your team, we would be playing at anfield so why just like rafa adopt a defensive play, its much better to put gerrard in the midfield and put benayoun on the wings, at least we'll have more crosses for crouch and torres.
Anyway, even if kuyt start it won't be great difference coz we have problem with him in the EPL, he seems to be ok in the Champions league matches, we'll have 5 defenders playing for us if he is included... just like eddie am gonna bet that he'll be on the teamsheet of benitez.

CORRECT CRITCALIND RIISE HAS BEEN ARWFUL

Your spot on criticalmind Riise hasnt performed well in a Liverpool shirt for Two Seasons. His overall performances this year have been dreadfull, if a team is foolish enough to make an offer for him in the Summer We would be stupid not tO accept. Insua playing in the Reserves is by far the best Left Back at the club, why he hasnt been given a chance only Rafa Benitez knows. Arbeloa is our best option at left back as Aurilio is even worse than Riise , which really says a lot about his performances as well.

4-4-2

in first game

reina
finnan carragher hyypia riise
pennant gerrard mascherano benayoun
torres kuyt

in second game:

reina
finnan carragher hyypia riise
alonso mascherano
pennant gerrard benayoun
torres

el zar

what abt him ive not seen him play much

El zhar is winger

Well, Julie, El zhar plays on the wings, he is much better than Pennant, he links up very well, dribble very well and took players easily.. he is a superb option that we have got and just like Insua or Nemeth...just an unused player by Mr the great tactician benitez...god knows, wat he is waiting for to play those superb kids that we've got.

Team to face inter

For me ideally
Reina
Finnan Carragher Hyypia Riise
Pennant Gerrard Mascherano Babel
Torres Crouch

But the team I could see rafa going with would be something like
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Aurelio
Benayoun Gerrard Mascherano Kewell
Torres Kuyt

Best line-up

this is better Punchy except for Pennant. He needs to leave at the same time Kuyt leaves. He is not even good as a reserve. I would say Benayoun will fill this position quite well.

4 trophies and 7 finals ... that doesn't make me a flop
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Match Day 7...the knockout phase RAFA BITES BACK LIVERPOOL v INTER MILAN Tuesday, 7.45PM, ITV1
Steve Bates Reports
Rafa Benitez last night launched a vigorous defence of his Liverpool record.

Despite seeing his side humiliated and dumped out of the FA Cup by Barnsley yesterday, Benitez inisists that if he is sacked in the summer it won't be because he's been a failure.

Even before Brian Harwood sprung the FA Cup shock of the season with his 90th minute winner yesterday, the 47-year-old Anfield boss confessed to being bemused by the speculation over his future.

After falling 19 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, Liverpool face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday - Rafa's only remaining shot at silverware this season.

And Benitez's critics claim his position will be under even more scrutiny if they don't make it past the kings of Italian football.

But he hit back, saying: "If you analyse the last few years since I came to the club we have won four trophies and been in seven finals, including two in the Champions League.

"How many other managers have done the same in their first three or four years at a club? People can talk about being successful but nobody is winning trophies every year.

"To do that is really difficult so I think we are in a really good position with a very young squad, so I have a lot of confidence in the team for the future."

Benitez knows his public spat with the club's American owners almost cost him his job - and still may unless they decide to sell out to the Dubai International Capital group, who came close to buying Liverpool a year ago.

But he is still angry that former Spurs star and German national boss Jurgen Klinsmann was approached to take over from him in case his row with the owners had escalated.

"When you are trying to work hard and do your job it is hard to accept the criticism that is always following me," says the popular Spaniard. "And, yes, it is a big surprise to see another manager in the background.

"But I keep going because I want to work for the team and the fans. But you cannot win everything - it is impossible.

"I am realistic enough to accept in the Premier League it will be really difficult to be in the top three. We will fight for the top four and see where we end up.

"So it could be important to us to progress in Europe because that would give us more confidence, particularly if we were to beat a team like Inter."

Despite their Premier League position, Benitez believes Liverpool can conquer Europe - just like they did in 2005. That season they finished fifth with 58 points - 37 behind Champions Chelsea - but still upset AC Milan in the European Cup Final. He says: "It's not impossible. We have done it before and we could do it again - why not?"

Inter, again powering towards the Serie Atitle, are dangerous opponents with a hard - c o re of tough Argentines. But Benitez believes his men can rise to the occasion.

"Players like Zanetti, Cambiasso, Burdisso and Crespo are really competitive," he said.

"But we showed against Chelsea that we can manage against the top sides so it could be an opportunity for us."
