Are we missing out on the bargain of the century by not going for El payaso?

Pablo Aimar, nicknamed El payaso (The Clown) is on the brink of a move to Benfica from Zaragoza, for just 7.5million Euros, surely Rafa could have stumped up that kind of cash for his former player from his time at Valencia?

When Rafa became Liverpool boss, one of the first names we were linked with was Pablo Aimar, but he went to Zaragoza from Valencia, and now is moving to Portuguese side Benfica for a bargain 7.5million euros.

Even if he turned out to be a complete flop, his transfer fee would have been less than that of Jermaine Pennant. While he said this about moving to Benfica: "Happily throughout my career I have been able to choose where I play, I had other offers but I always wanted to come to Benfica," surely if Rafa went in for him he would have give it some serious thought? Imagine Aimar, Gerrard, Babel and Torres as the front line of Liverpool's attack!

I agree completely - i'm not

I agree completely - i'm not sure why Rafa hasn't paid any interest in him. Admittedly he has lost form over the last season or two, but so has Ronaldinho (another i can't see why we didn't go for !)

Anyway, here's to Robbie Keane :)

Aimar.. I said it!

i made a comment bout a month ago. i asked y rafa has not gone for aimar, when newcastle made interest known. its a real miss.. i'm sad.. cos he wld have been a player of extraordinary skills.. wld have been wat barnes was to us or wat keegan was to us.. its just sad that rafa has not even mentioned him, when in previous seasons, we have always been linked to him. benfica or liverpool? thrown to aimar, i think his choice wld have been obious. 7.5mil? i wld have rather had him n alonso then 18mil barry. each day i come online to see the transfers of my beloved reds, i just wonder wats goin on. sad..

same old news

nice to come back to the same before i left.NOTHINK... no barry no keane. still i think we will have them both this week. but i am pissed off with the time it has taken to get them in. i think pennant will be gone next newcastle, and a few teams want him. as for alonso, its up to him if he wants to leave. lets wait and see.. nice to be back thoe...

welcome back rouman

you havnt missed much just that rafa is just taking his usuall stroll taking his time on signing players i wouldnt b supprised if they all just say f... off 2 him 4 waisting their managers times
i would just like 2 say that i didnt think much of yesterdays perfomance even though we drew 1.1
i know its only warm ups but they could av done better
apart from all that welcome back

julie

thanks, yes i saw the game too. but they are the top polish side. there are in the champions league, plus there league starts next week. so they must be fitter than us at this stage.after saying that your right we could have done better, lets hope we get the players eg, keane and barry, to make that final step. plus a wide man would be usefull. well its not long to go now and i cannot wait...

Gloom

Keane at Lfc for 20million? Here we go again, the same old liverpool, 20million can buy you a world class striker such as david villa. Veronin not released? what is going on??? liverpool to finish 5-7th that is if torres remains injury free
