Benitez : I don't know if Alonso will stay or go

Xabi Alonso could remain a Liverpool player next season despite being close to moving to Juventus; according to Reds manager Rafael Benitez.

It was expected Alonso would join Juve in a £16million move, however that has been put on the back burner after Juve could not agree a fee with Liverpool. Rafa today spoke about the potential transfer of one of his first signings at the club:

"The situation with Alonso has not changed,"

"Juventus made an offer that was not good enough and now we are just waiting. I do not know, really, whether that will go through. Xabi wants to stay because he is happy here, but he also knows that Juventus is a top side.

"I have talked to him, he knows my ideas and he knows why. So we will try to find a solution for him, for us, and the best for the club."
