Liverpool FC

AS Roma have announed on their official website that they have completed the signing of John Arne Riise from Liverpool.

The €5million fee will be paid in installments, as confirmed in this document from the official Roma website.

Riise was never going to get a game next season, especially after his own goal in the Champions League semi final, and the transfer of Dossena due to be completed soon; so it is probably best that he moved on.

Good luck at Roma Riise!

riise

im glad he s gone he used to be a exallant player but all of a sudden he s leting the side and himself down rafa should use the money and put it towards signing bentley or another striker fuck gareth barry he s geting old now and we have mascarano how playes with gerard in the middle and he does a very good job to.ynwa

john arne riise

i would just like to wish john arne riise all the success in the world with his new club, he has been a fantastic player and servant over the last seven years and thank him for some absolute spectacular goals, who could ever forget the free kick against man utd (i could watch that all day).i know he hasnt been at his best for a while but every player goes through a bad period but i hope he gets back to being the player he once was and wish him all the best for the future.....ynwa

riise.

its sad to see him go.. n for 4m?? tat certainly is bad business! why are we sellin players on the cheap? i bet if we were to even attempt signin one of Roma's worst players, it'll be a double-digit figure, simply cos we're a 'big' club..

Rafa's a bad businessman, especially wen we realy need cash. 14m for Alonso's fine tho.. But i'd realy luv him to stay. He had a cracker of a game for Spain the other day.. maybe he'll hit form again..

gudbye

Gudbye riise
Rest in peace ;o

riise

dpkowen

despite his fall in form lately, riise has done a great job during his time in anfield. i wudnt want him to go, coz indeed every player has a bad moment, thats just about life. he scored a good free kick against chelsea and everybody knows dat, he scored a nice right foot goal against barcelona previously.
I WISH HIM WELL in roma.

young talent

Im all 4 rafa buying young talent we've signed a 18 yr old danish striker called nikola saric but how many off these young players rafa has bought over the years actually plays a full season in the first team YES NONE.

why does he keep doing it then? we already have loads and loads of fantastic talent in the reserves nemeth,el zahr, plessis, simon to name a few rafa seems to buy these young players and chuck them in the reserves, whats the problem with not promoting nemeth,el zahr and simon to the first team this season? instead nemeth is goin on loan 2 leeds 4 a season how old have they gotta be b4 rafa gives them a proper run in the first team but hey ho rafa knows what he's doing right? I DUNNO ABOUT THAT ONE BUT WE'LL SEE IF ANY OF THE RESERVES GET A CALL UP.

Agree KevJ players like Nemeth

I agree KEVJ players like Nemeth and Insua are ready for first team action now. Im not saying in every game but they should be given the odd chance in the Carling Cup and coaxed along gradually. They should also be training with the First Elevan, and please dont say there too young, look at Owen Fowler Fabragas Pele even these players were all 16-17-18 when they made there debuts.
We have some wonderful talent in our reserves its about time we played a few of them in the first team.

downing

i hope its only paper talk, because he is not good enough for l,pool. silva yes , vincente yes, quasmera yes, come on rafa class please. oh i just heard pongolle has signed for at madrid for 8mil. is,t it crazy how we give players away...

Downing

Afraid its not paper talk, rafa likes the player, although he isnt his first choice we must realise rafa operating on a very small budget, he is prob the best we can afford. I for one do not want downing even stepping onto the M62 let alone getting into anfield however rafa knows he is priced out of the other players moves so is thinking who can we get! its a joke i agree, he is shite all the way to the bottom of the bowl however with harry he looking for a replacement, however what the hell is wrong with babel being used there didnt he cost us 12million?????????
Rather see the cash be put towards someone else who offers more than running to the byline everytime or passing back to defence after receiving the ball on the touchline. He scored ten goals last season which is roughly the return from kuyt and babel so that isnt bad considering he playing in a poorer team. Maybe he will prove to be a sucess, how many though keegan would be coming from a lower league or king kenny coming down from scotland - but in all fairness i doubt it, rafa does have a hit and miss record in the market. when he gets it right he really does, ie mascherano and torres and agger reina alonso etc but when he gets it wrong he really does - voronin kuyt pennant etc there apppears to be no real middle ground except babel who is honest prob will turn out to be good if he gets played in his position and more time

kev j's picture

agree rouman

Downing is no where near good enough 4 liverpool he only ever got in 2 the england squad was coz of big fcuk up mclaren.

we wont get quaresma coz it looks like mourinho is favourite 2 get him at inter we have a chance of signing silva & villa if rafa pulls his fcuking finger out i hope downing is only paper talk to?

this is a massive year 4 rafa he has to win the league or he will be out his signings has 2 be good un's if not then we got no chance of winning the PL.

i also think rafa is mad and stupid to let nemeth go out on loan he was brilliant 4 the reserves last season he is good enough 4 the first team without doubt he'd be better option than DIRK SHYT coz he is useless and clueless c'mon rafa use ur bloody nogging 4 once, and give us fans something to look 4ward 2 and shout about b4 the new season starts.

Wasting both talent and money

I haven't contributed for a while but I'm back on my favourite bandwagon, supported by kev j and eddie I know,in saying just how many players do we need at LFC? I think we have five goalkeepers!!!As kev and Eddie rightly keep saying we have the talent right here already, or presumably they wouldn't have been signed in the first palce? To me it is ludicrous to sign players and then loan them for Christ sake. Insua did really well for me in the last two games and nemeth only needs to be given a chance. And to me that's what its all about - being given a chance. No good being sent out on loan. Its a graveyard. Ask paul Anderson.

GEORGE YOU ARE 100 % SPOT ON BENITEZ NEEDS TO PULL HIS FINGER O

George you are 100% spot on, Id rather we gave some of our young players a go , rather than buy shit like Milner , Downing and the like. Why waste money on shite ?

Poor Anderson is a prime example he did brilliantly on loan last season with Swansea scoring 10 goals and winning there young player of the year award, how do we reward him by loaning him out to Forest, do we have an abundance of brilliant right wingers that I dont know of ? are Pennant and Bennyoun that fucking good ? are they any better than anderson ? how will we ever know if he isnt given an opportunity ?

Equally are Kuyt and Voronin any better than Nemeth ?, well the answer to that one is no, both are total shite, Nemeth is better than both of them put together and his only 18 years of age, he is one of the brightest prospects Liverpool have had for many a year, lets play him, lets give the guy a chance, don't lend him out to Leeds for christ sake, nurture his talent give him a few games against lesser opposition, or in the Carling Cup, let him know he is going to be a part of the first team set up.

Rather than spend money on shite give our youngsters a go, plus do what any good manager should be doing and buy us someone useful.
Benitez needs to pull his finger out. Buying Barry Villa and Silva wouldnt be a bad starting point. I sometimes despair with Benitez, has this guy got a brain ? because if he has he should start using the bloody thing. We need another goalscorer a winger and a left sided midfielder, how hard is it to understand that ?

Why piss money away

I have read on the net that Benitez can't afford the wingers he wants so Milner or Downing are all he can afford. I think this is complete horseshit.

If someone tries to tell me there isn't a better left winger in the world for £10 million than Sruart Downing then I will laugh loudly. Surely Rafa's scouting department must be average at best if James Milner and Downing are all that comes on his radar for £9-10 million. Martin Petrov is better than Downing and went to Man City for damn all last summer.

I'd imagine there's better wingers in the Brazilian 2nd division than these two duds. If they are all we can afford then let's leave our money in our pocket and keep saving for a christmas. Because you just know Benitez will want more money to spend at xmas anyway so why waste what we have now on Milner or Downing? Wait til xmas and put all your shillings together Rafa to see who we get.

Buying Downing or Milner will just demoralise the club before the season even starts. We have enough jokers, in fact too many, so let's not buy any more Rafa.

Buy quality or buy nothing and save up for quality.

1red1pool

yea your right, also we don,t need swp or lennon. if we can,t get better we should wait. after all if you could,t get a l,pool shirt would you buy a manc one?

Too true Rouman. If you

Too true Rouman. If you can't afford a horse you still don't buy a donkey for a horses race.

Benitez can't afford to waste time and money on misfits like Milner. Downing is better than Milner but still not up to the job of a first 11 spot at Anfield. He's far too ordinary and one dimensional. He'd buckle under the pressure.

We have Dossena, we should get Barry so that'll have to do if we can't sign a world class player.

I can't see why we don't get rid of Scott Carson for whatever we get offered. He's useless to us as a bench warmer if he's worth £5-6 million. Also £9 million for Crouch is a GREAT offer considering he has only 12 months left. We didn't even get that for Owen, who was a world star at the time.

Surely if we sell our dead wood we could sign Vicente and Joaquin from Valencia. They are both out of the limelight yet extremely talented wingers who could be got for £20 million because of Valencia's financial trouble. Benitez seems to look negatively at skilful players so he ends up with too many ordinary donketys and the team suffers a lack of skill as a result.

what is rafa on!!!

I read a comment that rafa wants WINNERS in his squad so thats what voronin, kuyt, pennant, kewell are all of a sudden is it? he hasnt got a clue what he's talking about.

is the likes of milner, downing, bentley winners? THATS A BIG NO! winners are silva, quaresma, villa, etc etc.... rafa really needs 2 wake up and smell the fcuking coffee coz the players we have been linked with isnt really worth writing home about is it? i hope this isnt true but i can see us struggling again next season especially with the players we been linked with. i hope we win the PL but we'll have to see what happens.

rafa in for robbie keane?

I dunno if these rumours are true or just paper talk if its true then he would be a good signing im sure he's also a liverpool fan rafa hoping 2 offer cash plus crouch as part of the deal ive always rated robbie keane he's a very good player can score goals take people on got pace would work well with torres just have 2 wait and see what happens. is it true that we are in 4 niemi of fulham?

Keane's a good player but I

Keane's a good player but I don't believe he is good enough for Liverpool. Unless we got him in a swap for Crouch plus maybe 3million I wouldn't take him.

On the plus side he would have passion for the shirt and knows the league inside out, but I still think we should do better.

I don't think Benitez will sign him anyway. I'd prefer Owen anyday.

keane???

didnt he use 2 play 4 manure??
he doesnt even play now,or have i got the wrong guy??

keane

i have allways liked him, but we should have got him 3 years ago. at 27 he is not worth the money they will ask for him. my value is 8mil tops.he will be able to play with torres, and fit in to our system. better than kuyt, and voronin, and as crouch will be gone we do need someone. as for owen i am a fan too but thats not going to happen. for me there is only one thats villa...

anybody

do any of u know whats happening with villa?? r we buying him?? also does barry want 2 come 2 us or is he just stringing us along??

julie

we should get barry soon, but villa not sure. barry wants to come its oneal with his valuation on barry thats holding it up.

keane..

keane has been consistent every season wit a mediocre team.. put him on a good attackin team, imagine wat he can do.. n he's oni 27, but he's pretty fast so i think he'd be a gud buy..

Red4life

Keane would be a good signing

I feel that Robbie Keane would be an excellent signing for Liverpool. Most of my mates are Tottenham fans and everyone of them say good things about this guy, where as they dont have much to say about Berbatov who the reckon is a lazy show pony or Bent who the reckon to be plain useless.
He nabbed 23 goals last Season and won Spurs Player of the Year Award. I would prefer David Villa if only from an age point of view, but Robbie Keane is a very inteligent player and if a swap deal could be made including Crouch I'd be all for it.

julez's picture

keane..

probably won the POTY award for a few times wit Spurs already cos he's easily their most consistent player every season..

but keane or berba, i'd probably take berba cos he holds the ball well while waiting for support.. den again, tats jus my opinion :)

Red4life

Gudjohnson

I know everyone is talking about Robbie Keane and his qualities that he could bring to the squad, but Gudjohnson i think is one player who i think is just as good as him and would slot in perfectly at Liverpool. Ok hes 29 slightly older than Keane, but the difference is, he is a very clever player, reminds me in a way of Jari Litmanim, in how he is able to thread and pass balls through and link up plays to the forward line. I think he would form a better partnership with Torres than Keane, thats just my opinion.

Im not knocking Robbie Keane, i think he is a very good player, but there are occassions that hes goes missing in some matches and when the pressure is on, he tends to fold and start arguing with the ref. Gudjohnson i think has that bit of class that maybe we are missing, hes been told by Barcelona he can move at the end of the summer and in all fairness would not cost the €15 million plus player price that is been touted by Spurs, maybe no harm in looking at Gudjohnson, i dont know what anyone else thinks, but i think he would be a great addition to the squad.

carrollmj

nice call gudjohnson is a good player, but he has been out of the prem for a few years now. and i just think keane has the edge over him. the one big factor for keane he is a mad liverpool fan, and it has been said that his wish is to play for his boyhood idols. why not both? i am easy with that..

Gudjohnson is he worth the gamble ?

My concerns about Gudjohnson are wether he is over the hill, he didnt play that often at Barcelona, and would have to be termed as a flop by Barcelona supporters.
Whilst at Chelsea he was a very good player, he linked play well and chipped in with a number of gosals and assists, he is a clever player.
His fee would be around 5m , his wages high, if and it is a big if he could get back to his previous standard of play it may be worth the gambe, personally I would look elsewhere though.

I'd buy Gudjohnson for £5m.

I'd buy Gudjohnson for £5m. He's the type of back up striker we need, not scratchy players like Kuyt and Veronin.

He wouldn't play week in week out but when he does play at least you would see he has quality and ability.

We have too many players that are just grafters, and it isn't enough. You need some attacking players with technical class and imagination. We don't have many of them under Rafa.

Even Sinama Pongoelle was far better than Veronin in my eyes. As for Kuyt, the striker cum winger, the more he is on the bench the more chance we might win something. We haven't won a thing since he arrived, and he has been in the first 11 most of the time.

Barry Keane or Villa

Signing Barry and Keane or Villa would go avery long way towards making us Premiership contenders, I for one was happy to hear Fergusn say he is only looking to bring in one new player next year , Chelsea to my mind have bought 2 excellent players and I reckon they will be the team to beat next season.
If we get Barry he should go a long way towards sorting out our left hand side ( a problem area for many a season ) Villa or Keane would give us additional goal threat, lets face it Voronin and kuyt are useless in front of goal. I also think most will be pleasently suprised by Dossena. Signings like Barry KeanE or Villa will definately be a step in the right direction. Barry and Keane have both been reported as saying they want to join Liverpool, if this is the case we need to move quickly and get them signed up . All of our transfers seem to take an eternity recently.
re Gudjohnson Im not that keen on s buying a squad player we have too many of them as it is they are either good enough for our first team or there not, just look at Benyoun Pennant fairly good players but neither will ever be world beaters, Id rather we progressed our youngsters like Nemeth and Insua.

Fallen from the top

Hi Eddie, Christ we set our sights so low now don't we? Gudjohnson, Milner etc. Dear oh dear. We had Bellamy arriving in a blaze of glory and what he wasn't going to do for us was no-ones business, same with Pennant. Their collective contribution was and has been almost zilch. Pennant CANNOT cross a ball. OK go for Barry but not at O'neill's inflated price and give Nemeth and all the other 'for the future' signings I'm sick of naming, a go!!

George I agree

As you say a bunch of collective crap, Milner Gudjohnson Downing Reira Bentley are all crap, give me Barry Keane Villa anyday. We need quality or not at all. Your spot on about Nemeth and Insua we have some very good young players knocking on the door of the fist eleven , its about time we gave one or two a chance of training with the first team and letting them play in the premiersip slowly slowly, I reckon they won't let us down.
As for youre assessment of Pennant you are 100$ spot on he is crap.

eddie888

the players you have named, are poor. but keane is not worth 20 mil. iwould prefer villa for that money. even thoe i like keane but 20 mil is far too much. still if they insist on 2o mil rafa won,t buy him. as for pennant he is like kuyt, and voronin not fit to wear the l,pool shirt. the next players rafa buy.s need to be ...

Rouman unfortunately its a sign of the times

Rouman unfortunately its a sign of the times , transfer fees are crazy , shit players cost 6-7m reasonable players 12-15m , good players 20- 25m plus. I somewhat agree that Keane and Barry arnt worth 20m - 18m respectfully, but this is the going rate give or take a few mil. Barry has been Villas best player for several seasons and is there captain and now an established England International, playing at the top of his game, there is no way we will get him for less than 15m. Keane is a provan goalscorer an International and was Tottenhams player of the year last season, again he will cost 15m plus. Both players have years of experience something Liverpool need a blend of experience and youth. If we go on to win the Premiership or The Champions League both purchases will be deemed cheap. Transfer fees are a joke, but if you want the best you have to pay the going rate, Liverpool need to get real when it comes to transfer fees, it's ok for us to want 16m for Alonso and 15m for Crouch but we seem to expect other teams o sell there better players on the cheap.

The main question that needs to be asked is wether the players we buy will bring anything better to the team, in the cases of Barry Keane and Villa the answer is yes, if only because we have so many crap players playing at the club, Voronin Pennant Kuyt should never wear the famous red shirt, simply because non of them are good enough o do so.Liverpool need to be seen to be buying the best not more crap, if we are to mount a serious Premiership challenge.Failure to do so will mean another season of dissapointment.

eddie888

yes it is the sign of the times. thats why we have to get it right.barry will do a job for us so will keane, if spurs let him go. he was spurs best player last year , but he did,t have much compation did he? i have allways liked keane, we could have got him years ago when houiller was in charge. i remember he got stitched up by a l,pool player who told him l,pool wanted to sign him . told him to be at l,pool airport and he would be picked up yea he fell for it. he went , yea you know the rest. on this one thoe it will take keane saying he wants to go. but at the end of it all there should be a cap on transfers, and wages. its all going out of hand. GREED has taken over and if it does not stop ,well who knows what will happen.

Agree Rouman totally overpaid

I totally agee with you Rouman, there are too many underachieving coudnt care less footballers earning ridiculous ammounts of money, ( The Engl;and Football Team for one ). All these big time Charlies yet when it comes to taking a free kick ora corner they cannot get the ball past the first man, they cannot control a ball, cannot pass, only have one decent foot. It makes you sick, if we performed as some of these pampered prima dona players did every week we would be sent packing with our p45.
There are a few exceptions to the rulle, but if I had my way there would be a salary cap of £10,000 a week, and players woul not be allowed to go home from training at midday they would all be in for specialist training in the afternoons as well. I wouldnt have any of this Bosman shite either and players would be held to there contracts if they wanted out then they should be sued for breaking the contact that they were more than happy to sign in the first place. It makes me sick all this player power.
Transfer fees would be restricted and I would restrict foreing players to 5 for every team.Manager would be prtected by not allowing a manager to be sacked once the season starts. I would also like to see two referees one in each half of the pitsh four linesman and goaline technology, as well as trial by tv for incidents missed by officials, I would also love to see play acting clamped down upon.
Anyway enough from my hitler type ideals.
On a more pleasent note it looks as though the Barry deal may go through within the week, and it also looks as though Alonso's move to Juventus will get the green light, as for Keane or Villa I reckon both deals are a long way from materialising.

maybey

i think barry, and keane will make us a better side next season. but champions? i am not sure. we still lack wingers, and if torres gets injured , we have no other striker. keane is a midfield striker he will score goals but he is no out and out striker. silva would be a good buy time will tell , roll on next season..

ROUMAN Agree with some of what you say

Im not saying Keane and Barry will bring us the premier but they should bring us a challenge, to describe Robbie Keane as a midfield striker is devalueing the guy he scored 23 goals last season playing for a shit side, I reckon he would do so again in a Liverpool shirt, your right in what you say about Torres though , if anything were to happen injury wise ( god forbid ) we would be fucked because Voronin and kuyt couldnt hit a barn door from 6 yards.

dic

looks like there back on the scene again. with gillett now giving them permison to check the books. hicks still won,t sell. gillett has agreed a fee with dic, if they get in hicks will be done for. roll on dic..

kev j's picture

rouman

i read that to with DIC hoping to buy gilletts share im crossing everything that they buy gilletts half then buys out the ten gallon hat wearing cowboy booted yank hicks share aswell come on DIC get us bk where we belong and that is at the top!

itll be fantastic if we buy

itll be fantastic if we buy robbie keane..he can do some outrageous things and is someone who is willing to fight till the end...this is the attitude we need at anfield..im a big fan of his and i have mentioned him as a transfer target before..i think it was rouman who talked abt his age...28 is a good age to and his experience can help the likes of babel and other youth players..maybe even torres... barry and keane n david silva.... i hope we go in for all three...

This transfer is beggining 2 be more trouble than its worth AV have refused another bid of 15m MON is a greedy 4 eyed prick i did have a lot of respect 4 him but now thats gone out the window we have been quoted over the odds 4 barry AV are being greedy now and taking advantage coz they know we want him so bad they know we are paying over the odds 4 him! even man c has got more money than us they spent 19m on jo today and we have to set our standards at downing, bentley & milner the yanky twats need to put there hands in there pockets and give more money 4 transfers or piss off back to the USOF A! simple as or sell if u cant afford to run a big club like ours! u wouldnt buy a car if u cant afford 2 run it would u G&H didnt think so!!!

AS MUCH AS I LIKE BARRY WE SHOULD SAY TO MON UP YOURS

As much as I ike Gareth Barry and think he would do an excellent job and be a terific signing , we should say up yours to that stuborn Irish prick MON, 15M IS ABOUT THE RIGHT PRICE AND WE SHOULD TELL THE PRICK ONIELL THATS A FINAL OFFER.

WHAT DOES ONEILL END UP WITH IF HE DOESNT ACCEPT, A TOTALLY PISSED OFF UNCOMMITED PLAYER.

hey..have patience u

hey..have patience u guys...there is still a month left n a lot can happen in that time... maybe O;Neill is lookin for barry's replacement ..n wont let him go until he has someone in sight...transfer deals can get dirty n this is one of thm...im sure well get both keane and barry...

kev j's picture

prick o'neil

AV this morning has turned down another bid from us and it isnt a 17m bid like the papers are saying it is this transfer is taking the fucking piss now o'neil is one greedy 4 eyed irish prick! id look else where if i was liverpool barry isnt worth more than 15m and that 4 eyed c*nt wants more the wanker im so pissed that this bastard can be like this a so called big name in football and he's being like this the twat i have no respect 4 him what so ever the tosser

shittie villa

martin o neil is a utter complete
wanker as are the club its self
this stuff with barry is doing my head in he is well hated at villa now barry is so instead of making him suffer just sell him to us hes not worth over 15 mill cheeky fuckers brummie twats fuck them i say rip up your contract bazza and get yourself to a fantastic club that is going places ynwa

Barry

This whole drawn out saga over Gareth Barrys supposed transfer is a joke, anything over £15 million is not on. Again it looks like we're held to ransom not only by Aston Villa but by Spurs over Robbie Keane as well with what there asking for him as well, i mentioned previously have we learned anything from outrageous demands from previous clubs when we enquire about certain players, remember the fiasco that happened over Alves and Simao, the last thing we need is a long drawn out process that not only infuriates the players but the club and fans as well. I think the Gareth Barry transfer is going to get messy and it wouldnt suprise me, if this goes down the legal route and ends up in the courts.

If Martin O'Neill continues to demand an outrageous figure for Barry, i would tell him simply to stick it and look elsewhere for players.

Gareth Barry

If anything LFC should decrease their offer for GB.
Villa (Martin O Neal) have behaved like a bunch of half wits over this. Now they have put Barry in a situation where he may no longer want to play for Villa under MO'N and will want out no matter what. That will mean Villa can't demand the crazy figure they want anymore. If I was Rafa I would say 10 M take it or leave it !!
