Club confirms right back signing

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Swiss right back Philipp Degen on a free transfer.
It had been rumoured a while ago, but today the club has confirmed the deal, starting on July 1st of this year.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez was delighted with the deal, saying "Philipp is still young but has gained great experience from playing in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and on the international stage with Switzerland. He also played in the Champions League during his time with Basel and so is used to top level football.
"He is an offensive player with great energy and a winning mentality. His strength is going forward and I am confident he will be prove to be a quality addition to our squad."
Degen himself said that when the Reds came in for him, he could not say no to such a huge prospect : "When I received the offer from Liverpool, there was no doubt I would accept it. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am looking forward to the challenge of establishing myself there and playing in the best league there is

I hope we will have some nice surprises rouman degen is an ok signing but would u risk paying £8m for dossena having only played 4 one season in serie A that is a big risk id use that £8m to go towards a top striker 4 torres coz we have insua at the back id save the £8m if i was rafa or use it to go towards a top name winger a queresma or jaoquin.
jaoquin is a good player and will prob be the cheapest option 4 us riera is also a possibility so is simao he's good but as u say rouman lets hope there are some nice surprises in store. have u heard of this marek hamsik rouman? coz i certainly haven't?

i have heard of hamsik, the mancs and chelski were after him again he is ok. better than kuyt. the reason dossena is 8 mil is because juventus want him too. i have not seen him play, but my mate said he would be a good buy. its hard to judge a player, playing in a diffrent league. look at cisse in france, looked ok came here looked a 1 euro player. the same about morentes, he was great in spain yet at l,pool it did not happen. so we will just have to see before we judge.

Great news - we have a new full back ! Does this mean the end of the other "new" full backs Arbeloa and or Aurelio. Read the previous email - the Mancs could be level on titles next year - which should turn everyone's stomach sick.
In out shake it all about - Rafa Benitez's management policy. There is only one way to stop the rot - get shut of this idiot masquerading as a manager - December will be too late ! Wayne Bridge would be a better option at left back than this Italian guy. Maybe the lad is decent but no name Italians tend to flop in the Premiership and he has only one Italian cap so he isn't very experienced at any football outside of Italy. I think he would stuggle at Anfield but might do well at a big club in Italy.
Bridge would be available for £5-6 million and is a good left back who knows the Premiership. We need to challenge from the first game next season so can't afford bedding in periods for foreign players every season.
Barry, Bridge, Owen are all English and won't need long to adapt to Liverpool's style. And they are all available to Benitez if he wants them. Sell Alonso and use the money for Barry.
As for this guy Degen, you can never tell until you see him play. But we've all seen Benitez sign the Josemi's and Kronkamp's so I wouldn't expect much from a free transfer who couldn't make a poor Dortmund team.

good call on bridge, he would be a good buy. but i have heard he is injury prone. your right about degen, but i will give him a chance to see if he is up to it. as far as the italian guy well he is a defender he might do well i can,t call it because, i have never seen him play. and a lot of players take time to settle with the exception of kuyt. we are all so linked with sergio garcia, and a under 21 italian midfielder. rafa knows the score , he knows next season could be his last. so i will wait and see, but if next year there is know change well my surrport for rafa, will be over..
ALONSO AND FINNAN OUT DOSSENA IN ?
There are a lot of rumours that Alonso has been sold to Juventus for 12m, and Finnan is on his way to Fulham for 2m. We are also said to be close to buying Dossena from Italy for 8m.
Personally I reckon we should be after 15m for Alonso but feel he hasnt really played to his full potential after a superb first season 163 games 14 goals is very poor considering most of those goals were in his first season, Alonso has underachieved in my book so I'm not sad to see him leave, Id much rather see Gareth Barry in our midfield.
Finnan I would keep as cover for the sake of 2m, because I cannot really see Degen being that good a player ( I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now but when I think Bosman I think of Voronin which is a scary thought),makes you wonder why we seem to be making bargain basement signings?, as for Dossena again I know nothing about the guy, 1 cap for Italy but not in there Euro Squad so it's hard to tell, I just wish we were buying players who we know can hack it in the Premiership.

The way things are going I agree with otleyred get rid of Benitez now, the type of players we are being linked with are even worse than the ones weve allready got, with the exception of Gareth Barry they are a load of unknown unprovan nobody's. We havn't got a cat in hells chance next year with yet another bunch of missfits, so put Paella Brain out of his misery and save us having to sack him come Christmas time.

It seems pretty simple alright Eddie to raise funds by selling certain players and buy well known international players but somehow Benitez seems to fuck it up.
The fans, and no doubt players like Gerrard and Carra, would get a HUGE lift to see Liverpool sign established international players like Michael Owen, Wayne Bridge and a star like Ribery, Quaresma or Villa along with them.
It will not inspire anyone but chuckles of laughter from Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge to see us signing MORE AND MORE unknown players from all over the world. Especially not considering we have seen the same old shit signings for so long and have seen the poor results on the pitch.
For me, Benitez is just a grafter. He doesn't have much style or class and the way his teams play unimaginative defensive football show his character. As does his lust for grafters like Dirk Kuyt. The same sterile nature is shown in the transfer market where he doesn't go out and excite the fans by signing some established star names even when we can afford them.
I honestly believe that Liverpool could be challenging for the title right to the end next season if we had a manager with a bit of flair who signs some quality attacking players and let's the team play attacking football.
Instead, we'll play the same old "can't lose at all costs" rigid football and draw as many games this coming year as last season.

Riera didn't do fuck all at Man City and isn't in the Spain squad so I cannot see why he'd be linked with Liverpool. We don't need more subs that will be sold a year later like Gonzales. I understand you think it's harash to attack him before he has even signed anyone. But I think a lot of the lads on here will only be positive if we sign quality players. If we sign a load of no namers then being positive will not lift the title with 2nd rate players. Putting the head in the sand hoping for the best like many of Benitez's In Rafa we Trust brigade do won't bring the title home no matter how many of them there is.
You know as well as me we can afford Owen and Bridge yet it's highly unlikely Benitez will sign them so it's not all about lacking money if you sign the wrong players like Dirk Shyt.

I'll support the team Rouman as always and if I was sure next season he will be sacked if he doesn't win the league then I would say he deserves 100 per cent backing so he can have no excuses if he fails.
But as you said he has massive support among 80 per cent of fans and so the truth is even if he only comes 3rd next season and stays in the title race til February or March, he will still have a large fanbase wanting him to get the same time Ferguson got to win a title - 7 years.
We'll just have to wait and see who he signs because until then it's impossible to known what chances we have next season. So I will exclude the name Benitez from every post until we see because if he signs class players many of us 0n here will be eating our words!
