Rafa Benitez has named his starting line up for tonight's game against Arsenal in the Champions League.
As expected, Mascherano has returned in place of Lucas, and the now familiar line up again is put together:

I dont see why we cant beat Arsenal, if Torres, Gerrard and Mascherano play to their best then we stand a great chance of getting something from this game

1-1 is a good result
1-1 is a good result whatever way you look at it. They did well and now they have the advantage at Anfield. Credit to Kuyt for scoring and he worked hard. In one off games he can be useful but week in week out he has nothing to offer.
If Arsenal attack at speed they can open us up but I reckon we're stronger mentally and should manage to put them out. Torres tried very hard up front on his own and needs better help than the likes of Babel and Kuyt can offer.
A good result though so it's looking good for the 2nd leg.
its what we played for...
it was odds on, rafa would play for the draw.arse had most of the game,had the better moves, but if you don,t complete your tasks, then be it on your heads. i knew it would not be pretty, and the way the game spaned out. it is what rafa played for. but its only half time and we do need to up our game at home,as much as i hate kuyt he done well to score that goal, but i still would not play him in the return leg. my choice would be pennant, as at least take players on. and i think crouch would do some damage to there defence in the air. its all to play for and i cannot wait for tuesday at anfield its going to be some night...

Overall it was a good result,when Arsenal scored I immediately started to worry if we had the quality to hit 1 back but thankfully I didnt have to worry for too long!Great run by Stevie.The game itself was boring it was clear 1-1 was what Benitez set out for,the formation he's using lately is really ineffective and I dont think we get the most out of Torres using it but considering the season we've had I'll gladly watch an ineffective 4-5-1 formation get us to the CL final!
Kuyt's goal unfortunately will cement his place in the team for another few weeks I'd imagine,Babel was poor too,because hes a bad player or because he's a right legged winger/forward playing on the left??I dont know but i'd like to seem him get a chance on the right before the end of the season!Come on Rafa common sense!Dont know what he thought bringing on Voronin would do because he has nowhere near enough quality to influence a CL qtr final match.
All in all it's been business as usual in the CL for us,it's a reminder that we can go to places like Arsenal,United and Chelsea in the league and get results but it also makes you wonder why that's never the case,You can expect another nail biting encounter at Anfield for the second leg!

A SUPERB RESULT TONIGHT 1-1 AT THE EMERITES WHY SO MANY NEGATIVES POSTERS ? AS MUCH AS IVE KNOCKED KUYT HE DID VERY WELL, RAFA DECRIBED HIM AS MAN OF THE MATCH PERSONALLY I THOUGHT THE WHOLE TEAM DID WELL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BABEL, BENNYOUN LOOKED SO MUCH BETTER. WE DEFENDED STOUTLY AND WORKED OUR SOCKS OFF WELL DONE TO EVERYONE.
A TRULY GREAT RESULT NOW WE NEED TO GET BEHIND THE TEAM 110% AT ANFIELD AND CHEER THE TEAM INTO THE SEMI FINALS ( HOPEFULLY AGAINST THE GREEKS ).

I THOUGHT DIRK KUYT PLAYED A BLINDER TONIGHT, I CRITISIZE HIM EVERY WEEK BUT I REALLY AGREE WITH RAFA HE WORKED HIS BALLS OFF AND DID US PROUD. THE ONLY PLAYER I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT IS BABEL HE WAS DREADFUL YET AGAIN.

Kuyt is still shite. how can we know if shite kuyt is any good in his position if we don't have anyone to compare to? he always starts even in games against weaker opponents. Think i might support another team if Kuyt still plays next season. Getting high blood pressure from screaming at him to do something right every game.

looking at the game yesterday nite, i believe both teams played well. Arsenal had the better off as they were having th emost possesion. but looking at chances created, both teama were equally matched. liverpool got away with the better result, but after the game i think Arsenal can come out with their heads held high as they were playing against a team with so much european cup experience as well as creating full loads of chances during the game....

I cannot fathom Wengers critism of the ref, to my mind he had an excellent game and let the game flow. Re the penalty Ive seen them given but hleb was looking to go down, he should have stayed on his feet.

I thought Bennyoun did well when he came on as a sub for Babel, i really feel he should be in the team. He offers a goal threat and is far more effective than Ryan Babel who is really strugling to come to terms with the English game. Dont get me wrong I like Babel and really want to see him succeeed but his last few performances have been very poor.

it really gets to me, when so called fans like otley red. start saying kuyt, is now a better player. he scored a goal last night, played well, WHAT ABOUT THE SHITE HE HE HAS PLAYING ALL SEASON? how many goals he has missed his passing, shooting, one game he has played well out how many take off your rose tinted glasses he is a second rate player..he is a work horse no more and if next season if he plays we will have no chance.the biggest mistake rafa has made, signing him for 9 mil when he could have bought owen. remember him.
Give him some credit
Give Kuyt a bit of credit for his performance mate, he along with Mascherano were doing their job perfectly well against Arsenal. At least wish he plays like this from now on, unlike the crap he played like for many parts this season!!!
I think Mascherano kept Fabregas silent for many parts of the game, he didn't find himself in the first half, but was stuck to Fabregas' ass in the 2nd half. Skrtel and Hyypia are doing good as well, Gerrard's twist and turn was Excellent, and good for us that we had someone in the penalty box to take the chance! ... As for Babel, he's still so young to put any pressure on him, and fair credit to Kolo Toure who kept the youngster quite, so Rafa had to come up with Benayoun who's more effective on the ball and has so much more composure to himself. Have we got a 2nd goal after the many counter attacks and chances, we could have been in the driving seat, but still a 1-1 draw is not bad considering we havent' won at Arsenal's since 2000 !!

Your 100% correct rouman , Kuyt has been our worst player all season, one swallow doesnt make a spring, one goal doesbt change things. No other top side would have or want Kuyt in there team, he has to be sold in the Summer.
Credit to him though he did play well against the Arse criticalmind used to say Kuyt plays better in the Champions league than in the Premier. Weird but true.

Why oh Why are people saying Kuyt did well? Yeah he scored, but you have to look at it like this, we were dominated by Arsenal due to our lineup and tactics, when you play on the counter attack you have to use the ball to perfection, the amount of times Kuyt and the odd occasion Babel actually got the ball, they both gave it away just as Gerrard was joining the attack. This would then leave Gerrard in nomansland.
Let’s just use Hleb as an example he would have found Gerrard or Torres at least once in the same situation and possibly we would have actually had a 2-1 lead. (By the way I’m NOT suggesting we buy Hleb but his distribution can’t be questioned).
