There's no criticism of rotation when Ferguson & Grant do it at Utd & Chelsea
Mention Liverpool or Rafa Benitez to most journalists, their first thought is 'Rotation', then begins 5 days of press coverage saying he is going to get sacked for changing the team, yet take a look at Man Utd and Chelsea's last 2 games, and also find the criticism of Ferguson and Grant about it.
One problem; you cant! see, the thing is; most tabloid journalists hate Liverpool. They go on every week about Rafa's 'rotation policy' , yet it is not mentioned once this weekend when Chelsea and United chopped and changed their teams.
Take Chelsea for example first: compare the carling cup team to the team that beat West Ham yesterday: (cup team)Cech, Belletti, Carvalho, Terry, Bridge, Wright-Phillips , Essien , Lampard, Obi , Anelka, Drogba.
(premiership) Cech, Ferreira, Carvalho, Terry, Ashley Cole, Ballack, Makelele , Lampard, Kalou , Anelka, Joe Cole.
As you can see, quite alot of differences in the line ups, not no hate compaign about rotation. Let's see Man Utd's last two line ups:
(v Newcastle)Van der Sar, Brown, Vidic , Ferdinand, Evra , Ronaldo , Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Rooney, Tevez.
(v Fulham)Van der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Brown, O'Shea, Nani , Scholes, Hargreaves, Park, Tevez , Saha .
Also, note this quote from Alex Ferguson: "The pleasing thing for me was I was able to use my squad with Tuesday's game with Lyon in mind. It was vital for us to rest"
Funny how when Ferguson wants to rest his team for a Champions League game there is no barrage of criticism is there?
When Rafa talks about using his squad for a cup tie, or a game against a smaller team, he gets it in the ear from other managers (Neil Warnock for example), pretty much every newspaper and every so called football pundit on tv.

Rafa said it once, and I just admired it, after the Barnsley defeat when a journo asked him "did you feel sorry for not having Gerrard from the start" and his reply was simple "if I have to worry about one name to play or not, then we have very serious problems, and this won't make it a football club"

Arsenal rotate, as a matter of fact, even Derby County rotate for the love of god... it's just that Journo's have it that Liverpool's failure in the league is their food for though, rather say, food for selling extra more papers.
A Happy supporter won't bother buy next morning's paper if his club is happy and in good hands, he'll take it into beliefs that the club will be fine not matter what, that's why you have to keep those supporters worried like hell in order to sell more papers, a pure business thinking to all of this if you ask me!

Look at the scorelines that United and Chelsea delivered - and then compare them to scorelines that are unfortunately all too common for Liverpool, and then you will know why everyone ticks Rafa off for his rotations - face it, Liverpool do not have a strong enough bench, and so the rotations end up flopping often, whereas United and Chelsea have a larger set of quality players to draw on.
Secondly, you need to know when it is appropriate to rotate. Rafa chops and changes very regularly (even when there isn't a do or die Champions League game midweek) while Fergie does not rotate for the sake of rotation - you will not see wholesale changes to the starting line up on a very regular basis
Bottom line is, if you win, no one will complain - the only reason journos pick on Rafa is because he doesn't do that as regularly as the other top 4 teams

All the other 19 teams in the league rotate as well for every reason mentioned... As I mentioned earlier it's the BUSINESS IDEA of having a worried supporter to sell more papers, put something up to scruitiny and keep it up for whatever amount of time... I've heard from a Leeds muppit that Rafa INVENTED rotation ... WOW! Now that's the spirit these papers wants us to believe. Alex Ferguson used it between 2003 - 2005 in which he didn't win a single league title back then... that's 3 seasons, and we haven't heard of him ROTATING, have we?!!! Arsenal won virtually nothing during the period Benitez has been here in England for, and no one said Wenger rotates.
Basically if you just keep going this road you ain't hitting any tops what so ever, thankfully Rafa and many of the boys do not read this crap posted by every paper, I thank god I no longer do much of that, cause honestly it will keep you frustrated, always sad, always feeling down...
The simplest of all examples, when we won the European Cup in 2005 in the most remarkable manner, one paper in 2 days time did not keep the happy days rolling, instead posted a big article on how we should not qualify to the following season's competition because we did not finish 4th !!!
It's not like they are all Evertonians, or just worship ScumUtd... when the bad days roll for any of the big clubs they'll have a feast with it, just to sell papers. I can't wait for the day when Ferguson leaves United, and they go into a period of instability where they have to rebuild and all that shit, and how their new manager will be perceived... it will be some party for those fuckign cowards.

As far as I'm concerned with rotation, a manager can rotate every game or every month for all I care. As long as a team on the field gets good results it won't be mentioned.
But when a team gets poor results people will try to find reasons why. The most obvious one at Anfield is rotation. Once Rafa gets results right on the field he can rotate all he wants.

Thats what i've been saying, Rotation is done in each and every team.. But at a lesser degree than at liverpool.
And in other teams it is done quality against quality, coz their manager dispose of efficient players they have inherited from the massive amount spent by owners as compared to what Rafa has got(..don't come to tell me he has spent too much on crap, coz that will only make you narrow-minded)
someone said Arsenal don't rotate, i'll tell that person to just wait 3 weeks and see the consequence of a team without rotation..
Some may say we should have had played Torres and gerrard in everymatch, but the club is named Liverpool football club, NOt Gerrard football club, so its better to encourage them to play as a team not to based themselves on 1-2 players...Unfortunately we've got a bunch of donkeys in our club who don't deserve to be even in our reserve team, thats what made Rafa rotation even more inneficient.
We may well say, Rotation prevent consistency from building, but we just seems to forget that those players train together, the consistency was supposed to start of field, while training, not when playing at league level.
Every manager has a dream..to construct a team..we have that at liverpool, slowly we are building a great team, 2 very good defender in agger and skrtel, 2 very good midfielder in gerrard and mascherano, two very good striker in Babel and Torres, its just a matter of time before the fruit is obtaine, we can't just base ourselves on critics from results of this year, we have not been so bad, coz in those games that we drew we had plenty of chances..meaning if we had players to take those chance we could have won it, those players may well be playing end up at liverpool after the transfer window.
The question remains, will it be wrong to rotate a player if we'll have quality players for the same post?? Are we really the one who knows who should be fitter or in form to be played? Do we really need and very big squad or just two players for each post? If you have two quality players for one post, do u think one of them will be happy to remain on the bench (Lucas-alonso example)?
Is rotation really the reason that we draw in a few games..coz if we analyse few of the teams we draw, you'll noticed we are not their only victims, other teams from the top 3 has had same or even worst result against them (i'll have a topic on the forum about that in the following days with all stats)
Sincerely Whatever the purpose of rotation, Whatever disadvantage or advantage it has, I'll prefer NOT to see the same saga again at Anfield next year..well at least till the busy christmas festive period.
Best Squad week in week out, with well time and tactically efficient substitutions will be enough acdording to my thoughts.

Didn't finish your read since I read "But at a lesser degree than at liverpool." ... sorry mate, everybody does it, and the difference is we have 4 competitions rather than 3 to many others, Derby County for example won't bother winning the FA Cup or the League Cup knowing that they WON'T WIN IT ANYWAYS... so better keep their few good names fresh for a Relegation battle and give some of the unfortunate ones some time on the pitch, whereas at Liverpool, with 4 competitions, and losing one is like Hiroshima, you bet everyone will come haunting with their steeling knives and their stinging words!
Play your best 11 is something of the past, and don't tell me Rafa doesn't know his best 11, cause even Ferguson, Wenger and Grant won't give a proper answer to that...

I apologise mate, I was just furious with some of the comments made in this website, some just make me sick to my stomache. Some make me question if I should support the club, and it hurts when I ask myself such a question, cause I can't stop supporting the club. Forget Rotation. We are talking incompetence here. I said it once and I’ll say it again, Rafa lacks the ability to manage a club the size of LFC. Rotation is only but one side of the problem. The other sides are his inability to choose and manage his staff and that includes coaches, mentors, scouts, fitness staff... etc. His inability to spend his budget wisely whether its new talent or staff. His tactics and game plans appear to be flowed most of the time and that covers rotations and players positions on the pitch. His relationship with the Owners and the media is less than amicable. His relationship with some players is starting to show signs of strain. His inability to utilise and incorporate some of the best reserves in the country into the first team is appalling.
Like you said, look at the players. SG and Masch, two excellent midfielders in their own right but totally disconnected on the pitch. Again Babel and Torres one big total mismatch and on and on it goes. I think the reason we have to have Gerrard and Torres on the pitch every game is because we don’t have anyone else. Like you said the rest are donkeys, Benitez donkeys, the ones he’s chosen and bought to be the corner stones of LFC club. Benitez is not slowly building, he is slowly destroying the best football club in the world. We are much worst this year than we were last year and the year before and we have got the results to prove it.

I totally agree redhot, we are a team going backwards, our performances this season are living proof, as you say we are far worse than last year, we are 17 points behind the leaders.
Our demise is a combination of rotation, bad tactics, bad coaching, inept playing staff, inconsistancy, failure to brig through youngsters, but whatever way you look at things the buck stops at the door of Rafa Benitez.

Rafa Benitez is ruining our club, this year our performances have been nothing short of shocking, we are a team going backwards not forwards like Rafa would have us believe. If we are doing so well how is it we are 17 points behind the leaders having been out of Premiership contention since December ?, and are now in a digfight for ForTh spot with no guarantee that we will even get that ?
Liverpool have only been top n the Premiership for one week under Benitez, during his four years at the club he has failed to bring any young plaers into the team, his obsession with rotation has desablised the team, and everything about the team, coaching staff, performance on the pitch is a joke.
Hoew then in all seriousness can anyone in there right mind consider giving him a further four year contract? What do they want to do fuck the team up alltogether and have us on our knees. Benitez has been realtively shit in the Premiership and that's a fact. Top for one week in 4 seasons is a joke. Martin O'Neill, who I think is inferior to Benitez, has already got a pretty shit Villa team up close to Benitez's Liverpool side yet O'Neill is only there 18 months and has rebuilt the Villa team with far less money.
Benitez is effective in Europe for
Liverpool and that will be the story of his Anfield reign whenever he is finally sacked. He seems to be too stuck up his own arse to realise the Premier League isn't about fucking tactics; it's about going out every week and whipping the technically inept sides who use long balls as their primary way of playing.
With players like Torres, Gerrard, Mash, Carra, it shouldn't be so hard to at least fucking CHALLENGE for the league. But Benitez believes the SHITE TALK he's a tactical genius and tries to "outwit" Wigan and Birmingham instead of just sending out his superior players to whip the trash. It's only hard when you fuck things up like Rafa so often does.
But he'll survive til next year now he's buddies with Hicks.

We play a lot of boring football under rafa in the PL 4 ever playing the ball back players not knowing what 2 do with the ball when they got it players out of position 4 exsample babel playing on the left wing when he's a right footed player! how many times did u see him moving the ball on 2 his right foot yesterday its coz he cant shoot with his left foot thats something rafa team should be doing with him in training something they cant be doing.

I'm not defending Rafa, i am just realistic... Rafa should have had been out by the thisrd week of the season when he started his rotation or when he messed up with the owners.. But that did not happened..and won't happen coz the yankees won't be paying 6 millions for rupture of contract.. Neither will DIC do so, ONLY kids can think that DIC has endless pockets and will be here to splash money if they ever get hold of the club. 1. We should not use Ferguson as a benchmark. We should be setting our own standards
2. Ferguson showed steady improvements on yearly bases. We are deteriorating on yearly bases.
There is no way we could win the CL with what we have got to offer this year. it is well and truly beyond our means. Realistically, we probably progress to the next round then this will be where Benitez's luck will run out with no CL and 6th place on the lader. What do we do then...ha?

I can only assume that there is an age difference creating the Rafa believers and those with more pride.
We have a generation of supporters who have never seen Liverpool win the title.
We have a generation of supporters and hangers on who believe that Istanbul was the bee all and all of Liverpool FC.
I've seen most games over a period of 40 years plus and without a shred of doubt this is the worst Liverpool side since the 50's. Without a shred of doubt Benitez is the worst manager we have ever had.
We have a generation of supporters who for some reason are prepared to accept 4th best. Gerrard echoed the words of a truly great manager when he said you get nothing for coming second - NOTHING.
If you want NOTHING for this once great club wallow in the shit that is Rafa Benitez.

Ive only supported the team for 38 years but I have never seen the team so dis organised on and off the pitch.

What annoys me even more is an acceptance from many that coming Forth is something to write home about, since when has coming Forth been a success for Liverpool Football Club, Bill Shankly used to say First is First Second is nowhere. It breaks my heart to see us play so badly.

As of Rafa, many of you don't believe in him, but every manager has his points, his highs and lows, his ideas and plans. Sorry but I don't agree with many of you, the title is not a birth right to Liverpool FC, and to any club in that matter, it is what we have to work hard for, as long as keep thinking that it is a birth right to the Reds, any draw against anyone would sound suicidal, and we'll lose faith immediatly, and surely will end in distress, keeping Anfield quite for most of the times... there were matches this season where we hardly heard a breath from the supporters, no songs were sang... and no one was cheered, I was asking myself, if we were the ones paying or getting paid to show up, eat the chips and fries, drink the drinks, sing a couple of songs and go home bothered that we did all that!
Some of you have seen some great sides, but it's different, the era has changed, and if you want it or not it's not the same any more. Live with it, look for a better future, help out in every way possible from you, don't just moan and say Benitez this Rafa that. For most of this season it has been about the players to be very clear on this case, many players have let themselves down, some due to unfortunate injuries, others to loss of form, etc... Agger's loss was by far the biggest under Benitez, cause we've lost the defensive stability we had in last season. Hyypia's off-form in the immediate aftermath of Agger's injury was another blow added to it, Alonso's injury came in a bad time, and hampered him this season to 11 appearances ONLY!... Torres' injury as well was disastrous, and you all know how many goals he's scored so far for us, EVEN THOUGH HE WAS INJURED!
89 goals have been scored till this date in all competitions, and I can see it rise to 100 at least by the end of the season... a better run is getting it's pace, and we're looking way much better now with the form most players are showing... things take time, it's not like Benitez will just walk in and make this place tick like that... and PLEASE don't give me the Mourinho example, when your chairman have spent the planet's fortunes to get the players they have, even Paul Jewell would have won the league title with that squad and that money!
Relax, 4th is not an option, and we're not saying that we like Benitez cause we'll finish 4th... I hate it when assholes show up everynow and then in the media and make the 4th place in the table some coveted place, as if it is the next best thing after 1st place. I think it is very frustrating for those of us who have seen enough of Rafa Benitez to know he won't win the league. Yes as Rouman says he will be there next year and we all can see that now. But I already read Paul Tomkins on the official site saying we can't expect to win the title next year either so I think it's becoming a farce now. It's a 6 year plan now to win a title.
I said at the end of Houllier's 4th season it was clear as day he should go and was sickened to see him get another year to prove what was already obvious to so many people.
Likewise I think it must be obvious now to many people Benitez isn't cut out to win the Premiership. I think he has built a decent squad and good first 11, but he simply can't get the best out of them week in week out with his over emphasis on tactics and rotating players even at the start of a season when no one can be tired. He stops the team from getting good results every week as much as the opposition do and in the end it will be obvious to everyone we need a new manager.
But he won't be booted out this summer so we should all accept it. Even if we come 5th I bet Hicks won't sack him because Rafa has played POLITICS and coseyed up to Hicks to keep his job.

I can't agree with you that the club is rubbish at the moment, many records show it, and many facts show it, if you want to stand where you are and not acknowledge the improvements made under Benitez then you're free to do so, but that doesn't mean that Rafa is just pure "shite" as you'd like to say... in my own opinion, Souness was a marvelous player, but not even close in management, Houllier was good at times, but lacked the sense of improvement or correction, and does take most things to his own heart rather than to his mind. Rafa, although sometimes stubborn, seem more professional in this aspect, knowing how to handle his players much more than many we had here lately... Rafa won't wait to see if a player is a flop or not, the signs will be just there to see it... the likes of Sissoko, Morientes, Gonzalez & Bellamy who had their time and went out streight away when it was obvious they won't do good is just an evidence... the capture of quite great talent like Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Agger, Torres, Babel and Benayoun is quite astonishing considering he didn't have much finances up until last summer, where reportedly "and I'm not sure of the whole statement to be honest" the cash was coming from the TV money + the European Cup campaign all the way to Athens.

I take on board some of what you say , Benitez has bought some fairly decent players to the club, I also like the way he moves them on if ther not any good, my disatisfaction with Benitez lies in other areas.
I Ihink his motivational skills are zero, have you ever seen him intervewed, have you ever felt enthused after seeing him talk, I certainly havn't and I think that that s one of his biggest downfalls. Perhaps he needs an assistant.
Secondly whatever anyone might say a settled side is usually a winning side, I'm all for the occasional change for tactical or in cases of lost form injury or suspension, but Benitez changes things far too much. His constant tinkering has created a lack of cohesion, a cutting edge , that is usually brought about by players understandng each other whilst playing in a settled side.
Thirdly I cannot understand him playing players out of position, this is a Manager who is supposedly a Master Tactician , some of his teaM selections leave me stunned. Why play Kuyt on the wing ? or Babel on the Left when his right footed ? Why is Alonso not in the team ? yet is possibly the biggest talent at the club ?
Forthly His failure to bring youngsters into the team, I have Satanta and have watched every reserve game this season, We have a couple of very good young players Insua, Spearing,Darby, and Nemeth, what hope have they got of making it at Anfield ? They will never be given a chance.

Well, am neither pro rafa nor pro rafa, i just want the club to progress.. and goes realistically with my belief... if somebody wants to believe we are still playing craps, he can believe so and keep moaning as if Rafa or Hicks will come to read it on the website.
We will progress to nowhere next season..thats the spirit, may be we should stop believing in the club and start supporting ManUre or Assnal!! Rafa will be here with Dirk Shyt.. and we can do absolutely nothing..so we better start playing fantasy football and putting up our own team and support it rather than supporting LFc...thats it.
Maurinho was under pressure, Mancini is under pressure just for the sake of European trophy..yet we at liverpool we want to ditch our manager at the expense of unproven people..thats something really wise...

CRITICALMIND WE ALL WANT SUCCESS
Criticalmind we all want success, as I said yesterday to Rouman , I have been close to tears this year because of our poor perfomances, I have even had to resort to drinking in different pubs as I wasnt in the mood for all the pisstaking from my Arsenal Tottenham and Chesea mates, thats how bad it actually got.
There is not a great deal wrong with our team, all thats needed is a decent manager to put things right. Lets get a new manager in , with some fresh ideas, Sign Three or Four top quality players and make this club great again. The foundations are in place all thats needed is a bit of fine tuning,unfortunately Rafas idea of fne tuning is to change 4 or 5 players every week.Rafa is not the right man to finish the job, he has taken us as far as he can, but keeps comeing up short.
Giving up is not the answer.This season is an anus horribillas and has been sent to try us all. I'm beginning to think Jesus Christ is an Everton fan, but we all know that nobody's that fucking stupid .

In case you don't know Criticalmind Benitez hasn't fucked up our season because he read negative comments on this site, or any other site, about himself. He has fucked up because he can't reach the expectations at the club.
There is a fine line between optimism and stupidity. I'm afraid anyone expecting us to suddenly win the title next season under Benitez is living in cuckoo land. He has been on top of the table for a measly week in 4 years. Therefore, he will need at least a 6th season without a league title and any club giving a manager that long IN THIS DAY AND AGE may as well not call themselves a top class club anymore.
I'll be optimistic, and patient, when I feel we have the right man in charge of the club. Rafa Benitez is not that man.

Most of you are not showing any signs of improvement, we just had something positive to cheer us on, and still all you guys keep doing is moaning... and not just moan, but moan on something very much unrealstic to moan about at this moment in time.
I mean when the club is winnnig, and they are looking more settled, less of your very favorite "rotation", less problems, DIC coming in for a bid, Hicks looking like a fool rejecting them, and you guys come up saying our football is shite, and we don't play football anymore, and we should better look at Rafa's failures, which are few in the public eye overall!
I don't need to say more, I know my words are falling on deff ears, hardly anything would make you move a bit, no matter what some of us, who see the light somewhere would say, we'll still be in danger, feel aweful and never change the mentality of depression and negativity that has marked this fanzine.
For whoever who thinks this makes sense, thank you. Others please don't feel ofended, but just look at yourselves, open up more, see the facts before making any rash judgements
