Sissoko poll - Stay or go
Submitted by FOAR on Fri, 2007-12-21 12:38.
Earlier this week Tony asked Is Sissoko securing his own exit after his rant? and yesterday the Mirror suggested he may be off to Juventus or Inter in the January window. Since Momo is taking a fair amount of stick for performances at the moment and has made public his dissatisfaction at being left out, do you think we should get rid in the new year? Votes over at the top right of the site.

What do the people who
What do the people who voted for sissoko to stay see in him ?
What do the people who voted for sissoko to leave not see in him ?
Those are two questions if answered would make my life alot easier.
I voted for Momo to go.After his eye accident he hasn't played like the player we thought he would be.He cant pass the ball..he cant tackle..the only thing he can do is freak the opposing players out when he charges at them.Doesn't Mascherano do the same, but also have the ability to pass and tackle without getting the booking.
I see it like this.He should leave because we have alot of players who can play in his position with more skill and talent..Mascherano,Lucas.So having him in the squad is just a waste. We should sell for a good price and think of getting a CB and a forward or a CB/LB and a right winger.Babel can play upfront so the forward area is quite full up for me.Oh yeah and sell Kuyt and Carson.
If they all collectively bring in 30 million which is quite realistic..then we will have a good amount of transfer kitty to do with as we please(sensibly of course)
HAVE HICKS AND GILLET GOT THE MONEY ?
All these rumours in the press about Hicks and Gillet puting the club up for sale , makes you wonder what is actually going on ?
Is it just press talk ? Or is their any truth to be had ? one things for sure they don't appear the shining knights that we originally thought they were.
Klinsman?
I read today that Liverpool are eyeing up Jurgen Klinsman as a replacement for Rafa.is it just paper talk or is there something in it. The article also said that Hicks and Gillete have until the end of Jan 08 to get the rest of the money to purchase the Club.. if they dont get it by then , the Royal Bank of Scotland may take over the Club. Can Someone tell me whats going on. I am getting bad vibes from all this
PERHAPS IT WOULD BE BETTER IF HICKS AND GILLET SOLD OUT
I'm begining to think it might be better if Hickd and Gillet sell there stake in the club.D I C have the financial clout to acually make our dreams come true, you dont nrrd to be the brains of Britain to realise Hicks and Gillet havn;t got the money or rather they have but don't want to use there own dough and would rather saddle the club with a massive deby instead. We arny in the same finacial arena as Man Utd and Chelsea. I wonder how our ex chairman must feel, Rick Parry has a lot to answer for he was the one who over saw the takeover, well it looks like he sided with the wrong bidder. Hicks and Gillet have fed us nothing but dreams.
Some Way Out
I'm with everybody in regards to Hicks and Gillet not impressing much, but I'll try to be reasonable with my conclusions here.
1) We had less time to perform, get results and improve on and off the field to be compared with others. Glazers bought an already accomplished side in scum united, Chelsea had money to burn with Roman, and Arsenal are JUST begining to feel the goods from the new stadium and not spending big in transfers. And though we'd like to say that both our owners only paid money from TV rights, stadium revenues, etc etc... the fact that the stadium is the long term project, and the sole reason why they were brought makes a huge difference in comparisions with others. Apart from Arsenal, no one is building another stadium that would increase everything on (I know Everton are, but they are not my concern and to me are not part of the big 4 clubs in England).
I believe the stadium is taking its toll on everyone in the background, no one is giving any conclusions, the stadium has been revised twice now, scrappign the big bowl thing when the Americans tookover, and again last week when they suddenly realized that it will cost the hell out of them.
2) I won't be able to judge them up until I see improvements on the pitch, with new players coming in, and to be fair with the very few they brought in, things look REALLY promising already. Torres with 14 goals before christmas, Benayoun and Babel with 6 already, I mean here we have 26 extra goals from 3 new signings, not to mention Gerrard's 11 goals, Kuyt 7, Crouch 7, Voronin 4, Alonso 2, Hyypia 2 and Sissoko 1... the improvement signs are there to see... we have scored 4 goals or more in more than 10 occasions this season alone. 60 goals have been scored already in all competitions with Liverpool this season... compared it to our previous 3 seasons (82, 84, 90) we have already passed the average goals levels scored before new years. This is quite an improvement, considering only 4-5 new players were brought in to the club last summer!
(2004-05):
52 Leageu goals
20 CL goals
10 League cup goals
82 TOTAL
(2005-06):
57 League goals
20 CL goals
20 FA Cup goals
7 other one-offs like the Sheild, FIFA's Club World Cup
84 TOTAL
(2006-07):
57 League goals (not an improvement)
22 CL goals (better than 2004-05)
11 in FA Cup, League Cup
90 TOTAL
(2007-08):
31 League goals (ALREADY)
23 CL goals (broke last season's goal tally)
6 League Cup goals
60 TOTAL
After the boring statistics, the obvious better come out... that we are only half way through the season with improvement shining through out...
Some might argue now that we have lost matches, and all, it's true some signs were not the best. The look of Sissoko's name on the team sheet gets me worried for the full 90 minutes to follow... and the fact that we have lost to Marseille, and Besiktas in Europe was at some point upsetting, and the sight of scum yet again at Anfield grabbing the points was just devistating, BUT the season isn't over yet, and we are yet to play some interesting games in the League and Europe.
Please feel free if you had any more to add, or comments to say
base21...
The statistics may looks good, but credits certainly does not go to the owners but to Benitez... If Benitez would have not negociated for Torres and Babel, we would have had never got them, Torres made it clear in the newspaper he would have never come to liverpool if Benitez was not here. Other clubs were paying better price for him and giving him better options.
Now the money part, The American beggars financed the Transfers by taking a loan of 25 million...the rest came from the business Rafa made by selling players..he got around 20 millions... So basically the Yankees has invested nothing... Looks like same thing gonna repeat in January, Coz for sure Rafa will be offloading some players for good prices.
The team has improve, we have better players..most credit goes to the vision of benitez, he is constructing something here, but he has responsabilities also toward the players..thats why came the Rotation stuff that irritated all of us, we just hope he has sawn that better to risk playing the same player again and again that rotating with Crappy players like sissoko, but anyway he was just a cover for Mascherano, coz the Mascherano deal is not done yet. So may be by next season we may be a team of competent players only, of course with some players who can have 1-2 bad games a season.
base21.
no credit goes to hicks or gillett. they have yet to fullfill, there promises to us. rafa has kept the club going, and us fans.rick parry is a sham, i hope dic come in with a offer, my newyear wish... is for the yanks to sell. if there honest the job is to big for them , they do not have the money or the passion for our club. they should come clean and move on. you have made some good points thoe, the season has someway to go, and like you i think were going to be right up there. and there will be many more shocks to come. all the best to all l,pool fans, were ever you are. and good fortune for 2008...
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE, I enjoy the banter on this site sometimes I agree sometimes I dont but its good to sometimes see another point of veiw. I look forward to more benter in the New Year wher I hope the team shows it can compete for the Premiership.
kuyt's holding us back
I believe rafa looks at the same statistics regarding the teams position and players performance, points wise we are better off than last season and performance wise gerrard, torres, yossi, and babel are our match winners, crouch with lack of opportunity may not improve on last season, we need our defenders and anybody else to chip in a little more, rafa needs to study kuyt, i still believe kuyt is the one that is truly holding us back, the others who a lot of fans may want sold are bit part players, he is a 1st choice as anyone, incredibly average all over, we'd have trouble off loading him to any of the relegation candidates, rafa needs a replacement asap, we may get away with things in all other positions until the end of the season, but not his because sometimes we are playing with ten men, has he actually had an outstanding game yet and half the season gone, kuyt and rafa is like houllier with diouf or cheyrou, persistant to the detriment of the team, how many times does he lose possession, how many goals has he scored or created, he does not even link up that well in general play, i'd take any striker (frontman) as he is not striking much, from at least 12 other prem teams and give the average guy away.
100% agree with this comment
But even if you ask Derby County am sure they will refuse Kuyt... Bad business for 10 million, wished newcastle had snatched him from Rafa's hand at that time, may be we could have had won the Champions league again last year.
And if he does score 1-2 goals, he sores after missing 10 golden occasions in the same game to get one goal.
And as you said mate: He lose possession, Can't score, and does not link up well.
I'm not complaining he is a bad player, but to the fact that he is a waste of money for 10 million..
From this Point of View even Sissoko is better than kuyt coz at least Other clubs are coming with good price for him..But for Kuyt NOBODY!!! Else Rafa may perhaps have thought of offloading him, we never knows whats in his mind.
Good points
I Like to be fair with eveyrone, and in case of Kuyt which to be honest is a player I don't feel is that big or that bad, he had some good games and fairly obvious some bad games. His game against Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final was good to be fair, and his goal should have counted on. So was his performance in the game against Chelsea in the League last season at Anfield where he scored a great goal.
I too believe that we need someone else in Attack, I'd prefer either Anelka who would look fearsome with Torres in attack, or Berbatov who would just be a perfect match for Torres. Crouch should stay, he scored 18 goals with us last season, and I'm not giving up on the big guy. Voronin sounds good in Europe, and fair enough, he didn't appear much since the Porto home game where he disapeared in it...
Considering the amount of cash we have spent on some players, Kuyt sounda bit of a dissapointment, but not like Diouf to be clear. Diouf was WAAAAY OFF it, he didn't have the mantel to compete in the top flight with us, not the right mentality, behavior, or character... he was full of talent, and so shitty in everything... I won't blame anyone for booing him in games against Bolton. Kuyt at least has a better character, which I'm sure most of you "including me as well" won't count it as goals all along.
Still exciting times are coming ahead of us, and I won't be surprised to see more big names coming in, but we have to make sure we have better cover in defence first this Jan.
here,s to 2008....
the title, yes, the champions league yes. a new striker, kuyt gone. a new defender yes. the yanks to shape up, or ship out. the mancs out of europe in the next round,i am off to spain boxing day for 3weeks. so to you all a happy newyear..ynwa.
our players..
sadly most of dem perform very well oni against weak teams.. we need a player who can create sumthin outta nothin, like wat ronaldo does.. we dun hav tat kinda player, tho i think babel is sumwat gettin der.. so in other words, we need to hav a clearance sale..
Red4life
Surprise Surprise
So Sissoko who is an out cast to us now wasn't good against Barcelona... Arbeloa against Messi... Mascherano against Kaka... Crouch against Arsenal... etc etc
We have been scoring 4 or more goals for fun this season, and we should go and make a clearance sale... how about a garage sale where I'll sell my Liverpool top of 1998 as welll ?!!! Please don't get me started
Merry Christmas anyways
Kuyt just isn't gpood enough
Kuyt has shown consistently he's the worst of our 4 strikers. He works like a trojan but so would any one of us for 40 grand a week. The reality is he isn't isn't good enough for a club like Liverpool. Simple as that. The longer he plays in a red shirt the less chance we have of winning a title. There are loads of strikers in the Premiership way better than Kuyt so how long he remains at Anfield depends on Benitez accepting the obvious reality that Kuyt isn't good enough.
I believe Emile Heksey even now would offer more than Kuyt. It's like playing with a man down most time he plays and if he has one good game in ten some supporters claim that merits his place in the squad. I'm sure Kuyt is a nice fella but when he plays we suffer so the quicker he is replaced by a quality striker the better chance we have of competing at the top.
Can anyone imagine how we'd be playing this season if we didn't buy Torres. Quality goalscorers cost so much because they make good teams into great teams. We need more than Torres and Kuyt, Crouch and Veronin are three players we need to be rid of in the summer. If we buy more firepower then Benitez will at least challenge for the title.
If Benitez persists with Kuyt next season then he'll be signing his own resignation at Anfield. If he lasts until next season.
What's with all this negativity!
Yeah sure, Kuyt won't score a goal even if his penalty was on within the 6 yards box with a 6 year old keeper... but mate, the negativity is just aweful... let's just be fair enough with the team shall we?
Torres as an exceptional talent has already scored 15 goals this season, and long may it continue seeing El Nino score every match, but for the rest... smoe have dissapointed heavily and I'm not arguing about it at all, the likes of Kuyt and Voronin have really made it look so difficult on us when they play, they surely can score, but they are making it look so awefully hard to do so in our games this season... the fact remains the same, Benitez likes to field in 2 wingers with 2 midfielders, one to lie deep and defend with the other attacking and going forward... and 2 strikers, with one playing "between the lines" qouting from Benitez, and the other being the out and out striker... we had Crouch last season knocking 18 goals in that role with Kuyt just behind him, this season we have a better option in Torres with either Kuyt or Voronin behind him, which makes their play way much deep in midfield than in attack, watch Torres' goal vs Chelsea, where was Kuyt to head the ball to Gerrard's path?... Besiktas... where was Voronin when Benayoun struck each and every one of his hat-trick goals?... and where was Crouch as well in that particular game?
Both are good at playing between the lines of midfield and attack, creating space for others to go for, be it Torres or Crouch in attack, or be it Gerrard from the middle, or anyone from the wings.
I don't like their style of play, and I'm sure you don't !!! But You and I are not managers of LFC "THANK GOD :p"... let's hope they do better next up!... and please keep it more positive than negative
You are right....
You are right in what you wrote, we need to be positive..and its rafa who has the options, not us. He saw where the problem was last year and got it solved by bringing Torres and Benayoun who seems to be looking better than garcia, just waiting for him to score against some big teams.
BUT i agree with you that we may play a second striker behind Torres, then better it be a freebie than a waste of money of 10 million.. You can't pay 10 million for a player to just run on the field!! Apart from the Arsenal game i don't remember against what teams Crouch scored last year... may be wigan, derby, charlton etc...
The equation is simple..we need to get rid of the strikers who are useless for their price and bring more competent ones...be it on trial basis.
Just look at the video of the DErby game, and you'll notice where Kuyt was standing and calling to get the ball when Gerrard scored..Kuyt was waving at the opposite corner post..Do u sincerely think an striker can score from that place? or if he is always with his back to the opponents goal looking to pass the ball backwards?
Thank god Rafa Brought Torres, else don't know where LF would have been in the table... Rafa is the Boss and we must trust him.. he has a vision..we just need to be a bit more patient.
Not negative, just realistic
I don't mean to sound negative in comments base21 but one look at the league table proves that things are not right at Liverpool. After four years under Benitez we shouldn't be so far off top of the table. Yet if you were to listen to him you'd think we were 3 points clear. Benitez has to take responsibility at some point for the dire performances of Kuyt and co.. that he brought to the club. Remember, Kuyt cost us as much as Berbatov or Anelka.
But for Gerrard's last minute goal yesterday against the worst team in the league our dreams for the title would have been squashed by christmas.
In my eyes the attitude of the team under Benitez in the league is wrong. They only seem to come alive in big cup competitons with big atmospheres. Look at our performances in the Champions League this year in the beginning - losing stupid matches to Marseilles and Besiktas because the team wasn't focused properly.
The same lack of focus is very visible in the Premiership against some lesser teams where we drop stupid points and let the top teams pull away from us. Then the players lose heart that they can win the title and usually give up by Christmas - despite all the shit talk denying it.
Benitez himself doesn't seem too bothered that the Scum and Arsenal have left us in their wake. The team don't look particularly motivated to me to catch up to Utd. Yesterday was 3 points but more importantly it was another example of why we're being left behind by Utd every season under Benitez. The drive and ruthlessness needed to win the title isn't present in this team.
I want him to get things right as much as any other fan rather than bring in a new manager and be told to show more patience. But I've watched football for many years and all the signs are there to me that Benitez won't win Liverpool the Premiership. He's in his 4th season so it's not a hasty observation after 1 season.
4th season so what???
Benitez is in his 4th season so what?? It took Ferguson 7 years to win his first EPL title, had they sacked him after 4 years today they would have had been in league one...
So if Benitez is not the one..we should not have had Torres now at liverpool, neither Mascherano, Babel, Benayoun, Arbeloa, Agger etc..
Gerrard should have been to Chelsea or other rich team by now.
If Benitez is not the man to bring the title then lets change him and wait for 4-5 more years for somebody else to buid the team like he wants!!
Arsenal was top even last year when they beated us in the cup games...then what?? They were out of all competitions by beginning of march...
As for ManUre, Do u think if ferguson did not had the money to get Hargreaves, nani, anderson, carrik, ronaldo, tevez..he would have been able to cope with Chelsea???
Benitez just need one more striker to complement Torres, and the title can be there for us..But for that he needs money...don't tell me strikers are cheap or talk about anelka or berbatov, coz they are crap also at times, just look at the miss of anelka at liverpool. We deserve better, and sooner or later benitez will fill that gap..he has more worries for the moment, the mascherano deal and a defender.
Ferguson is a one off
Criticalmind you seem to think it's a foregone conclusion Benitez will win the league. How many years exactly do you think he should get before you wonder if maybe he isn't destined to win a league? 5, 6, 7 years in charge without a league title?
How many managers other than Ferguson can you name that didn't win the league title in their first four years and then went on to win it? Name two. No, name one other manager?
Tell me a manager at any of Europe's biggest clubs who didn't win the league in four years and wasn't under pressure? Blind faith in Benitez or anyone else won't bring the title to Anfield Criticalmind. And Berbatov or Anelka would be vastly superior for Liverpool to Kuyt, Crouch or Veronin, the majority of people can see that much.
We want players who want to fight and sweat blood for Liverpool FC, not players who will leave the club in the lurch once the manager they like is gone. And as was proved at Chelsea, money not managers are the main reason a player joins a club. Pay them enough money and you'll get the majority of players you want. It has always been the same. And it's why Mascherano will leave if he doesn't get enough money, whoever is the manager.
Just one more Season...
Just one more season...lets be patient and wait one more season, we all can see that the only thing missing in the team is another player like torres, it would be unfair to get the man out after building such a team and being so close.
I don't say Rafa is irreplacable, but i think one more season is enough for him to prove his worth, he is the man who brought the Champions league back to anfield and he will be the one who might bring the title back to anfield.
You asked me if i know any other manager who did not won the title for 4 years the went to won it..well i don't have the answer...But How many managers in the EPL have been able to won the Champions league in their First season in charge???
You said it mate..money is the key to success, Chelsea was able to hold his players, but how well are the players paid at liverpool is uncomparable to the Chelsea players.
We can't start moaning about sacking the manager in december while the season is just midway...was the same scenario in the year we won the Champions league. There's still long way to go, if Rafa don't show the sign then i'll be also among the ones wanting his head by the end of april...but not now!!
Are we really that far in the table?? If we won the game in hand we will be just 6 points behind ManUre..we can overhaul them, its just a matter of time.
We need to support Each and every player, the manager and the whole team...not just Torres and Gerrard ;)
Lets be patient at least till the end of March which gonna be a very interesting month for LFC.
SIGN MASCHERANO IN JANUARY
I honestly think it's about time we stopped pussy footing around and bought Mascherano, 17m is the price but he has proved that he is a world class player and by antones standards 17m is a steal.
If we are serious about winning trophies at Anfield then buying players like Maxcherano is a must.
If we don't a whole number of clubs will and my worry is the longer we wait the bigger the final asking price will be.Signing Mascherano in the January transfer window should become a prioity.
A WIN AT MAN CITY IS VITAL
A win at Maine Road is vital for us to keep the pressure on Man Utd and Arsenal, to lose would set us back big time, a draw wouldnt be much good either. Maine Road has been a lucky ground for us in the past , lets hope we continue on a winning run and hope points are dropped by ur rivals. Id be happy with a 1-0 victory and just have a feeling that Stevie G is going to have a blinder.
Win at City, no excuses
We've just been let back into the title race by the scum losing to West Ham. If we win tomorrow it'll set down the marker that Liverpool aren't going to fuck up anymore and that we're ready for a real challenge for the title.
No excuses tomorrow from Benitez. It's a game we have to win and should win to get ourselves back in with a chance of the title. The first hurdle our team has to overcome is the belief that they CAN win the title. They will only do that by winning crucial games like tomorrow when our rivals have fkced up.
The team need to be ferocious from the first minuteo like a cup game to show their hunger. No more slow tactical shit.
Fair enough Criticalmind
You're right we need patience this season anyway. I obviously want Benitez, or whoeevr is Liverpool manager, to get it right as much as anyone else. His record proves he is an efficient manager. But that doesn't mean he'll win the title at Anfield and my own belief after watching him for three and a half league seasons is that he will fall short of the title in his time at Anfield.
True, we need another one or two class players like Torres and Gerrard. But even then I'm not sure Benitez motivates the players sufficiently week in week out. Sometimes they play like their minds are at home and drop stupid points. Other times they're too tactical and rigid and predicable because Rafa won't just let them loose to play.
I would probably give Benitez one final season as well - as long as he makes a good run at the title after christmas and proves that he sees what's required after enough time to understand the league
But Rafa has lost all his away league games at Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and Highbury/Emirates. That's unacceptable and down to his over cautious tactics. Even Houllier could beat Fergie even if Utd always had more money.
Rafa himself proved when the pressure was on him in Marseilles and Porto at home he can do the business. But he seems to be in a comfort zone too often in league games and then we drop stupid points like we did early in the Champions League when we were't focused enough.
Maybe Benitez himself needs a kick up the arse from the fans. We're tired of waiting for a title challenge, we're tired of excuses from multi millionaire professionals who are living our dreams playing for Liverpool. We should be able to beat all the lesser teams in the league without too much hassle if we're doing our work properly. Do that and we'll have a title challenge.
WHY WOULD IT TAKE ANOTHER MANAGER A LONG TIME TO BRING SUCCESS ?
I can't agree with you criticalmind , why would it take another manager so long to bring success ? any new manager would be mad not to keep Reinna Carragher Aggewr Mascherano Gerrard Torres, these players are the nucleas of our team. Another manager might well be the answer to us finally winning the Premiership, I still have faith in Rafa but nobody is irreplacable, Rafa has been at the club for four years now and has improved our squad tremendously, but he cannnot go on indefinately without us seriously competing for the Premiership, to my mind we wont win the Premiership this season, but we are onlt 2-3 top quality players away from a team truly capable of competing with Man utd Arsenal and Chelsea for that prize. If I was an Hicks and Gillet I would give Rafa three years to brin g home that prize I would also give him the money needed to reach that goal, the signing of Torres proves that Rafa knows how to spend the money wisely, his overall transfer dealings have been good, but Rafa cannot be allowed to go along indefinately without winning us the top prize, and to think another manager wouldnt bring us the title is folly.
win at city!!
We just got another chance to get back into the title race,we might not get another this season. we must go for the kill at city, we gotta grab this chance. if we dont.. or worse.. cant.. well.. maybe we just aint good enough.
In Rafa we better Trust!
The Holy Grail for all of us Liverpool supporters is just round the corner, and because of some strange signs we seem to forget where we are with what we have!!!
Comparing financial wise how this club is managed to the other 4's big spending, Liverpool comes 4th... we did not spend 10 or more million pounds on a bench warmer until this season with Babel! .. Kuyt who was brought for 10 was brought in as a starter. Splashing a 10 million was very much a rarity than a majority, compared to Man United spending 20 - 30 on their starters and keeping their home-grown players on the bench or in the thrown out games much of the time!
Chelsea have spent the most, and don't give me the Ballack free transfer, cause we all know his pay roll is enough for us to bring in 3 of his calibre!
Arsenal might not spend the most, but they have the money to spend, with Wenger usually relying on nurturing young talent brought for a sum next to nothing, but they did splash the cash on Henry, Pires, Wiltord, Lehmann, Helb, Rosicky, Eduardo "with out the last 3, the others were the back bone of the undefeated side of 2004"...
Now with the money issue gone... the other point is: TIME has been different... I'll just give you a simple stat to admire and realize exactly what I'm talking about here...
Tottenham Hotspur "FOR CRYING OUT LOUD" have scored more goals than any other team in the Premiership to this date... 41 goals, 11 of them coming in the last 2 games!!! Chelsea of all teams have lost away and drawn at home against Aston Villa in the 2 clashes they had together this season...
Teams like Reading, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Aston Villa & West Ham United have secured shock results already this season, the overall shock results this season have surpassed what a single team would acheive of shocks in the PL in the past 14 years!!!!
The number of goals scored in a game has already been broken twice in Portsmouth 7-4 win and Tottenham's 6-4 win against the same Reading side this season alone!
The number of goals scored by the so-called smaller-teams this season in the Premier League have surpassed what it was like in the last 6 - 7 seasons !!!
My message here is that we did improve, but others improved dramatically as well. Everton have 2 great strikers in Yakubu and Johnson... these blue shites have got their best result under Moyes this season beating Sunderland 7-1 at Goodison, this is the same Everton that lost with the same scoreline to Arsenal in our European Cup winning season !!! I can even hardly remember them winning 3-0, to remember a 7-1 !!
I have all the faith in Benitez, he wants to put in several steps at a time, but was not lucky to do so until only last summer, I was expecting us to go even further has it not been for the captures of Torres, Babel, Benayoun and Voronin.
Sunderland "WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT" have splashed over 20 million pounds in the summer !!! Fulham have splashed as well, and so did Tottenham, West Ham, Everton and Bolton !!! Not to mention the usual spenders Man United and Chelsea who have spent heavily, not just this summer, but over the years.
Give Rafa the chance, he was bemused by the American's statement in regards to transfers cause he wants to put in more than 2 steps at a time, cause he already knows how improved everyone else is becoming lately. And to some of you, it wasn't the worst team "Derby County" that we snatched the win from, they were good at times and played their part, and after all we WON IT "for the love of God!!!" People are acting as if we lost to Derby, I mean even the shite media didn't act as horribley as we are acting now for this Derby game!!! and it has passed on already... and WE WON IT... WE GOT THE DAMN 3 POINTS!!! And not just that, thanks to other teams slipping up, things are actually back in our own hands, and we better win tonight against Man City, and even if we drew "or God-forbid lost" we still have a chance... we were effectively out of the race "sicne Benitez came" at every Christmas with over 15 points seperating us from the top!!! we are only 9 points behind with a game in hand!!!
some of you are already so negative and NOT admitting it... "I don't wanna sound negative BUT" and then start raving on about how bad we are, we just suck, Benitez sucks, everyone sucks, we don't play well, we are not in it, we are already out of out, they don't see it happening this season, etc etc etc... what does supporting means honestly?!
I'm seeing so many great signs from this team already, winning with 4 goals in way too many games this season, against top sides as well "and don't tell me it's just Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Ure who are the top sides. Porto and Marseille are good sides, besides everyone have improved!"...
To me we only had a couple of set-backs and that was it... nothing else was really bothering, cause we're still heading in the right direction, and will be under Rafa!

In Rafa YOU can trust
We won't even mention the City reuslt because it's no surprise to many of us at this stage.
Base21 I've had all these discussions 5 years ago about Houllier and there were infinite fans then too after his fourth year that said "In Houllier we trust" and all the same shite about what he's building. That attitude in this day and age is folly. We're 18 years without a league title. ManUre are likely to win their 17th this May which means they're only one behind in the all time winners list. We don't have time to be throwing away league seasons and talking shite about next year because we're being left behind. We all HOPE we'll win the league this May, but who honestly believes it looking at our performances and FAILURE TO win crucial league games?
If Jose Mourinho was Liverpool manager next August I bet the vast majority of objective Liverpool fans would believe we have a better chance of the title NEXT YEAR than if Benitez is still manager. All that matters is the club winning. Benitez has shown over 3 and a half seasons in the Premier League that his own tactics and team selection have cost the team regularly. Kuyt is a regular under Benitez even though Crouch and Veronin are better players. These type of poor decisions cost a team in the long run and it has cost us because Kuyt is a donkey who doesn't score.
Supporting a club you want to win means caring only about the jersey, not about any man in charge unless it's someone unique like Shankly or Paisley who did amazing things for the club. Benitez has been top of the league for one week in all his time at Anfield and yet INCREDIBLY you seem to think all fans should put all their faith in him and not question his ability for the job?! Managers at clubs the size of Liverpool Football Club should get three years to win the title and no more. Unless we're happy to be a cup team from now on and not bother with the league?
This FIVE year "building a great team" shite came from the French and their long term plans for youth development at Clairefontaine which led to the 1998 World Cup.
I can name you infinte cases of managers in charge of big clubs for more than four years who never went on to win the title. So please, support the jersey but don't tell people they're negative for opening their eyes and seeing Benitez is becoming less and less likely to win the title the longer he remains at Anfield. Support him until June but then the club and fans need to accept some facts if we finish way more than 9 points off top.
Spot on !!
The only thing worrying me 1Red1Pool is that we seem to be a top four team only.So top four means we are 4th best in the prem.
What I'm trying to get at is that we wish for number 19 and its been a long time coming.Unfortunatley its not going to be this year.
We seem like a set a fans who after a while just wish we qualify for the CL at the end of the season. So who are we compared to in the EPL ??The teams behind us like pompey and spurs and newcastle are teams that wish for a CL spot..FFS Spurs thought they might win it this season...
So basically we have become those teams..teams who wish for any silverware because we know we wont win the EPL...I doubt anyone thought we would win it this season or next season for that matter.
We need a chelsea type owner..meaning will buy whoever just to make us win the EPL...whats with our beloved club..are we that bloody jinxed that nothing goes right..owners are crap..players arent LFC worthy and the manager keeps rotating and is as stubborn as a mule.
Rant over chaps...YNWA
RAFA!!!
I was reading an article on liverpool website and rafa said he was happy with the performance 2day despite having 17 chances 2 score WHAT! THIS FCUKING BLOKE IS IN CUCKOO LAND he talks out of his arse the sooner he goes the better he hasnt got a clue lets hope that the rumour is true about him goin in the summer and a top manager coming in who is out of work at the moment who has already managed in the PL by the way! IM FED UP WITH HIS FCUKING EXCUSES!
BASE21 TALKS A LOT OF SENSE
Iagree with a lot of what you have to say base21, a win at Manchester City today , would see us right in the thick of the Premiership race.
It would make the second half of the season very interesting, Liverpool are not the only team dropping points, this year more than any other there isnt any easy games, thats why our victory at Derby was so important, to win the Premiership you have to win games full stop regardless of performance. We are far better placed than we have been for a long time, We are more than capable of beating Man U,Arsenal, and Chelsea in there own backyard, and all the top teams will drop points between now and the end of the season. We have everything to look forward too in 2008, lets hope that we get off to a flyer with a win today at Maine Road.
not good enough
We aint good enough greg i dunno about u but we will never win the PL as long as rafa is in charge it wont be a bad thing 2 get rid of rafa and get another top manager in with new ideas and that can get the players MOTIVATED! coz rafa doesnt seem 2 know how 2 do that and this moment in time!
not good enough
after the city result we just got to face it.. we just aint good enough to win the PL.. you could be right about Rafa, maybe he has to go. if Arsene Wenger had that team for a season .. they would be better .. the same goes for mourino and Klinsmann ( i heard he is being lined up as a replacement)..but those two Americans aint got a clue .. Moores greed let those two in the door.. DIC would have been a better option .. I know for a fact that Maktoum is a soccer nutand wouldnt have the attitude of those two .. its looking like 2008 being the same old story ..top 4 finish... just.. but we live in hope
KUYT & SISSOKO
These two players should never play for Liverpool again, neither are up to the job and should be sold at the first available chance.
Liverpool will never win the Premiership playing second raters. both Kuyt and Sissoko are exactly that. I just hope that Rafa ( with the financial restraints placed on him by the yanks ) doesnt go out and buy any more sub standard players in January, We are better off waiting for a player who has quality, ultimately it is the only way forwrd. Wether it be in the Jnuary transfer window or the summer , We need to get rid of all the dross and replace them with players of quality and class. Why Rafa cannot see the obvious is beyond comprehension .
Kuyt isn't to blame
The reality is Eddie that if Benitez asked me or you to pull on the Liverpool shirt and run around the pitch like a fucking donkey for the club we would do it.
Of course the reality that we aren't talented enough for that level would be obvious to everyone - but sure Kuyt has shown the world he isn't good enough and yet Benitez keeps picking him.
This is my point about Benitez - why can he not accept Kuyt is shit and play Crouch and Veronon ahead of him unless they're injured? Is Benitez not proving his own stupidity and defensive nature which us costing us points?
We can't blame Kuyt; he's shite it's obvious. So why the fuck would Benitez persist with him?
Simple Reasons mate!
Cause Voronin played the previous game and was shite "as everyone will keep saying", and Crouch is suspended, and Torres BETTER START OR WE'RE JUST GONNA BE OUT OF IT!
To me, last night we fucked Man City at their "fortress" ground, we played the whole game at their own half, and they couldn't master ONE SINGLE GINUINE ATTACK MOVE ALL NIGHT. So instead, I'll look to the fact that we played Kuyt and Sissoko "I don't know where you guys got this on as well, he hardly appeared for some time now" and just cry out for replacements we all know are not coming in this easy with the stubborn heads of our owners "and not manager to let you know"
1red1pool
You are 100% right with ur article i support ur debate 100% theres nothing else 2 add its that spot on apart that id like 2 see rafa out of liverpool coz we will never ever win PL as long as he's in charge happy new year.
January transfers
Immediately sell Kuyt to Sunderland or Wigan for 3-4 million and buy Eidur Gudjohnson from Barcelona. He's a far, far superior player to Kuyt for the same money.
Buy a central defender; although now that Agger is nearly fit Hyppia will be on the bench anyway so maybe we're not so desperate until June.
Sell Crouch and bid for Anelka. Benitez won't put proper faith in Crouch and play him regularly so just take 8 million for him. We need pace up front because if Torres gets injured we will be fighting with Man City for 4th.
Sell Sissoko to Juventus or anyone and use the money to ensure we sign Mascherano long term. Bring back Guthrie from Bolton in the summer and let him be Sissoko's replacement ON THE BENCH.
Once Sissoko is gone Lucas Leiva will get more games after xmas.
For once i agree with you 1Red1Pool..
For once i agree with you, coz that is something that really make sense, we really need to get rid of those players bringing us back on each and every step..
But you forgot one thing ;) The Yankee beggars should handle the team to DIC, and pack their luggage, coz they don't have enouth funds for such a big club as LFC..
As for the City resul i am really dissapointed, but not in rafa, Coz even ManUre lost there with its 80 millions squad, so if we had a draw, means we were better, unfortunately we had a donkey in kuyt upfront who did not helped the team great much, we seemed to be playing with 10 men whenever he plays in EPL.
Does Benitez thinks that ManUre and Arsenal are waiting for him or what!!! Coz whenever they Drops points instead of taking advantage, he just let them escape..When will he decide to catch up in end of April or What!!!!
AURILIO HAD A GOOD GAME
I havnt been a great fan of Aurilio's since he came to Anfield, but I thought he had a good game today. I know he has had a bad injury but it was good to see him play well.Him and Kewell did well down the left hand side.
GOALSCORER WANTED
We do need to sell Kuyt, We do need to sell Sissoko, and if Rafa isnt going to play Crouch then we may as well sell him as well, We should also sell Crson to Villa. Im not sure about us signing Gudjohnson I'd prefer us to buy Anelka. We desperately need another player who can score goals.
thought of a song
think of the theme tune from only fools & horses where it singing from no income tax no vat
here it goes
no hyppia
no finnan too
no money for a o-o draw
rain or shine,we'll get it right
it could be another draw
oh no it isnt now
torres has scored a goal
carra has saved one too
then kuyt messed up ohh nooo
we're 1-0 down thanx to him
lol let me know what u ppl think it took me ages to think of a song
Kuyt the headless chicken..
You better make a song abt that..
He sucks..he does Cross country on the field...the one and only headless chicken..the managers workhorse.... his mouth also runs much than needed for the press...always with his fake and useless promise..wanna make dads proud by giving the ball back to our keeper as much as possible...with his back always to opponents...runnning at the ornerpost all the time...Putting records in amount of missed chaces..a waste of 9 millions...Oh kuyt our Shittest Player for a decade...
YOu can arrange the lyrics however you want :))
song 4 kuyt
theme tune from yellow submarine
when he bought this guy named kuyt
rafa thought he could play
but he missed goal after goal
then fell over hamans nose

Very good song Eddie!!
Very good song Eddie!!
Unbelievable!
I would expect all this shit to come from an evertonian, from a Manure scumbag, from a Chavski blue muppit... but from us, the so-called best fans in the world...
I don't care about the result there anymore, it's all obvious that we just don't wanna believe at all... and very much apparent, we don't wanna Support anymore
Base21, supporting is about honesty
Base21, you seem to want to promote a club akin to what Houllier wanted; a club where anyone who questioned the manager or his players is ridiculed for disloyalty? Are fans not entitled to vent their annoyance when we're ten points off the top of the table at xmas in our manager's 4th season? Are we Liverpool FC or Tottenham?
Do you want people to deny the fact Kuyt is utter shit just because he's wearing a Liverpool shirt? The fact he's so shit means he shouldn't be near the Liverpool team. If it takes Kuyt being booed off the pitch for Benitez to sell him I would say it's in the best interests of the club to boo him.
Kuyt doesn't play for free. And Liverpool can't afford to be a charity club paying shit forwards 40,000 a week or more who won't score. You're faith in Benitez is fine as long as it doesn't turn into an attempt to riducule people who don't share that faith in the manager.
As regards you remark about Kuyt starting because Crouch was suspended - Kuyt has started far more games than Crouch and Veronin even when they're all available for selection so can't you just admit the fact Benitez likes a shit forward who doesn't score because he works like a donkey and is the first line of defence.
Many times this season I
Many times this season I have expressed my dislikeness for Kuyt, the only thing I've done to date was explain the exact idea of Benitez in playing Kuyt in these games, and you know what, I won't be bothered to say it all over again, if it means that some points can become more clearer!
beside, it's all up to you weather you like someone or not in the team, I for one fear the worse whenever I see Sissoko's name on the team sheet, but not Kuyt cause I understood what role does he play for us.
Benitez played with 5 Midfielders if you remember in the 2005-06 season, wanted to perform the same idea in 2004-05 but failed cause he didn't have many options for it, except for Garcia who was more needed on the flanks!
Kuyt and Voronin are brought in to do a job, in closing the link between midfielders and the target man which usually is Torres or Crouch, and since Torres have started 23 games of our 30 games this half term, I believe Crouch started the other 7 !!!, which also highlights how Benitez wants his team to look like.
Benitez is like any other manager, has his own faults, I'm not saying he's perfect, cause he ain't!, but at the same time I'd rather give him support for this time being rather than slate him when he and the rest of the lads need us the most. being honest is good, unless it goes on beyond fair critisism and turn into ourcries and masacares that are totally uncalled for!
So far Benitez did field Kuyt and Voronin on the pitch together 3 times! And to his own admission it doesn't work at all. Rafa thought that Kuyt's goals in Holland came as being a target man, and that he could benifited from Voronin's link up play, but apparently it did not work at all, and since the Blackburn draw back in November 3rd, the 2 were never put on the same field together, and if they did, with another target man be it Torres or Crouch!
I don't like this system, and prefer an attacking midfielder to do this certain job, more like what Kaka does to Milan, being the link between attack and midfield, and still be a very dangerous player. Probably if we had some one of his calibre, we'll see the differences, considering botj Kuyt and Voronin lack that much of ideas, but to be fair, their link up play has brought Benayoun, Babel, Gerrard, and Sissoko to score many of their goals this season already...
I understand how sad it looks being 10 points off the pack, but there is something about this season, and I for one am ready to give some time to Rafa who just had his first season to spend correctly in the transfer marker... if every summer he'll bring in another Torres, Babel and Benayoun with a freebie like Voronin, then we better look out for this January, first thing tomorrow morning!
Being honest as you said is very good, it opens more ideas, and gets you and I to understand more of our beloved club, but unfair criticism, and bringing in ugly songs on our players, then please, that's not honesty by the slightest... that's shit behavior, and only supporters of other clubs would do on our players, more like how the mancs would sing anti-Liverpool songs!
I just hope you got my point exactly this time out, and believe me, I won't tire at all if I have to bring it out over and over again, simply cause I understood Benitez's idea in regards to scoring goals, I'm not the biggest supporter of it, but it did work and it will work furhter more with Torres' arrival with us!
