After the new story that Besiktas apparently took payments to lose the game against us in the Champions League heavily, along with us beating Newcastle and Bolton convincingly, are the press taking any opportunity they get to discredit Liverpool?
One thing is certain: The British press (makes you sick to even think it!) have not considered Liverpool as serious title contenders for ages. One thing they want to say is that we were always the underdogs at the end of the season.
After we beat Newcaslte 3-0 at St James' Park, all the stories were about how poor Newcastle were. Fair enough they were not amazing, but we still had to turn up and win the game by creating chances and scoring, yet no one seemed to recognise the fact.
We beat Bolton 4-0 on Sunday, who had beaten Premiership champions Manchester United a week earlier, and were labelled as heroes at the time for their result.
The team that faced Utd was : Jaaskelainen, Hunt, Meite, Andrew O'Brien, Gardner, Campo, Nolan (McCann 83), Guthrie (Wilhelmsson 74), Davies (Speed 70), Anelka, Diouf.
Compare that to the team that faced us on sunday : Jaaskelainen, Samuel, Meite, Michalik, Gardner, McCann, Campo, Speed, Davies, Anelka, Diouf (Giannakopoulos 66).
9 players featured in both games, either as subs or starting from the beginning. There is not that much different, yet when we beat Bolton, again it was the same: Bolton didn't show up etc, not Liverpool were the better side and battered them throughout and deserved to win?
One line that was used after the United game was ""Bolton were full of energy, the exuberance of Danny Guthrie providing the perfect midfield foil for Campo's old head."
Ivan Campo is experienced enough to play alongside anyone. He has been there, done everything, got the t shirt. How can playing alongside a kid on loan make Bolton the winning side? This was nearly the same team that faced us a week later, what happened to their fighting spirit, or "Kevin Davies' non stop battling"? Again it seems, no one wants to give us the credit we deserve. Still unbeaten in the league counts for nothing.
The latest crap to come out is that "The 8-0 Champions League win over Besiktas last month is considered suspicious because of irregular betting patterns."
I have worked for a betting company in the past, and have seen the huge number of bets that go on sporting events, especially football. Hundreds of thousands of pounds a day, on single matches are placed all the time. Apparently, Asian betting rings target the Besiktas players. Besiktas had no reason to lose this game, Liverpool needed to win. Besiktas had brought a brilliant crowd over from Turkey to support the team, after they had beaten us a few weeks earlier.
Would Besiktas really let that many passionate fans down? the Turkish fans were still singing at 8-0 down, of course the club would not take bungs on the game.
Betting/gambling is very popular in Asia, and Liverpool have a massive following over there, so why is it all of a sudden that the match was fixed? I used to see the amount of bets being put on, and the amount from Asian users was unreal, some would bet over £5000 on a first goalscorer, so why is automatically a fix when we destroy someone? When Manchester united beat Roma at Old Trafford 6-0, there were no match fixing allegations then, it was just "A scintillating display by Manchester United " AGAIN, how come we were not just labelled as 'too hot to handle'?
William Gallard, UEFA director of communications, said "At this stage I can neither confirm nor deny the reports, There has to be a certain amount of confidentiality with these things because we could risk a source of information drying up."
So, Gallard can not confirm it is true that Besiktas were paid to lose. Surely, UEFA would come out and say so if it was?
The papers especially need to take Liverpool seriously, and not just try and shine the light elsewhere now that we are performing well. Benitez constantly says this is the best squad he has had since being at the club, we are still unbeaten, Gerrard has found his form and we have a quality striker in Fernando Torres.
Stop trying to discredit Liverpool, we are title contenders this season.

So far this season we have had many great perfromances where there was only one way traffic, and still fuckers like Andy Gray and other so-called EXPERTS "would you believe" are slating Liverpool everytime they score... The amount of sick criticism of the way Liverpool play is just out of this world. How on EARTH would an EXPERT "idiot" say that Fulham deserved a draw at Anfield?!!! Are they watching football anyways?!!! Are they fuckin' blind at all?!!! If we score 1 goal, then we are just lucky! If 2, the other team was just unlucky! if 3, the other team was off for the day! and if more than the opponents were just poor all over !!! FOR FUCK SAKE IS THAT SANE ENOUGH TO ANY MIND AT ALL, CONSIDERING THAT THIS LIVERPOOL SIDE IS YET TO LOSE A GAME IN THE FUCKIN' EPL where their alltime favorites Scum United have lost twice already?!!
I for one no longer listen to any of these pundits at all! Sadly for me, I only keep the voice on while watching the match just to hear the crowd who unlucky for both of us are interpreted with these muppits in between!!!
Liverpool are title contenders this season already, they better deal with it, or they will lose more fucking ground than they have already!

You guys are right.. we don't get the credit we deserve, but this don't matters untill we end the wait for the big title... Bolton beated ManUre and we scored 4 goals against them, We had 3 goals against Newcastle, Yet Arsenal Made a draw and was lucky not to have lost that game...Yet people keep saying it was easy games, but the truth is that the thats playing much better than the opponents.
Let the form keep flowing till may..and get the title back home.

But you got it wrong...The opponent closed both Torres and Gerrard so that they can't get forward too much, thets the onsequence of relying on one striker for winning the match.

Its Clear Rafa made a mistake, but the whole team is to be blamed..this is what happens when u have a 20 goal scorer being blocked by defenders. The ball from caragher to crouch should have had been in the net, he just slip down in front of goal so easily, NO stability!! For the corners he was always leaning on Reading defenders, What the Fcuk is his height for!!! As for sissoko, i reckon he is really crap, he can get the balls, good tackles..BUT then he gave the ball back to opponents..useless!!!
Rafa could have had used better players, but as a manger he was just giving a fair chance to everybody...coz all of us was taking the match for and easy game.
Lets just hope he risked everything for a good cause, and we beat ManUre next week..this would be the only thing that can appease the fans anger..i don't care abt Marseille, its the ManUre match that matters.

yes it was the wrong formation, sissoko should move on .i think vornin is a player who like in the second half should play behinde a striker, not out wide when he is out wide he is poor.but the whole team played with marseille on there minds even rafa. the ref was crap, but no excuses from me we should be beating teams like reading. all mane judgments should be made at the end of the season, we have all been though this before the season has some way to go yet, and i belive there will be more twists and turns to come, bolton beat the mancs its a marthon not a sprint .

Great Stuff
Liverpool's 4-0 win against Marseille was an amazing achievement, it just shows how much quality this Liverpool side has. The fact that the Reds scored 16 goals against 3 oppositions in the 3 last games in Europe just shows how much power we have upfront, in the middle and in the back conceding only once!
As for Sissoko, I guess Rafa's keeping him for some reason, sometimes a player can be good enough during training, which keeps his name in the manager's mind. Benitez's admission that Momo can run for the 3 consecutive games highlights what Benitez is keeping him for... I personally think that he lost his touch since that horrible eye injury against Benfica, yet to be honest, his last game against Reading he was a better figure, and just started showing that he's much better than last season's aweful performances indicated. Another player who FINALLY started to get back to his best was John Arne Riise, who against Marseille, was powerful in defence, his positioning was spot on and had a couple of shots on goal in some free kicks, he's certainly coming back to his best, and he couldn't come back at a better time.
As for Toshack, he's just past it... sure he was great as a player with us, but he hardly showed that much in managing, I don't think he should have said a word about Benitez, specially that the Spaniard clearly indicated that he was looking for FREE TRANSFERS, and not a single dime right now! Some people must keep their comments to themselves, especially old players and staff who represented Liverpool for some while, they better understand that the unity of this club is all that matters to all of us, and nothing else! Crouch and Babel were brought on too late,when babel came on we asked some questions of utd for awhile but its hard for him to make a full impact when he only has 25 minutes.I also thought the Aurelio for riise swop was a bad one too.Why the hell did they leave Aurelio take that free kick at the end from close to the half way line,you could tell it was out of his range,we had at least 7 players in the box and he put in a terribly weak cross which led to nothing again,the guys supposed to be a free kick specialist!!

Can people honestly not see after 3 and a half seasons that Benitez is not up to the task of winning the Premiership. How many more players must come and go before we ACCEPT we need a new manager with different ideas?
Why? Because of various reasons, mainly he is too obsessed with negativity and buys players who work hard and keep the shape of the team but have little or no talent to play football. My God we were all tired of Harry Kewell 4 years ago yet now we're happy to see him in the team cus Rafa has never bought a quality left winger, or a quality right winger. Benayoun and Pennant are not fit for a title winning team; neither is Aurelio, Kuyt, Veronin, Crouch and Hyppia is 34.
Why on God's earth did he buy Leiva when Sissoko is already on the bench for midfield and Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano are in the team. What stupidity. We won't even mention playing Kuyt any,ore because he's so out of his depth at Liverpool he's applauded if he has one good game in 10.
When will fans stop believing it's just our fate to be out of the title race by xmas every year and realise it's always the MANAGER that is to blame. There is only 11 players on the field, it's not brain science for a 4 million a year manager to buy good players who can at least give the SCUM a real game at Anfield.

He would be sacked by now at any other club Liverpool's size in Europe.
Look at Rafa's record home and AWAY against the big 3 in the league in over 3 sesons: it's totally unacceptable.

He BADLY needs to go in June. Four seasons is more than any manager would get at a huge club to win a league. Benitez has been top for one week and he acts like he's a genius. It's beyond funny. Europe is great but at home he just isn't good enough. Being outclassed by Arsenal and beaten AGAIN by the scum at Anfield proves this to anyone except the blind and stupid.

Totally agree. Benitez is out of his league. Ferguson took him for a ride and beat him. Some of us are blaming the players, some of us are blaming luck. I put the blame squarely at Benitez feet. Kuyt played out of position yet again, Kewll seems to be avoiding heavy contact and exertion, Benayoun was rendered useless Babel and Crouch came on too late and Gerrard collected a yellow card whilst covering midfield and defence at the same time.
10 years is a long time to wait but let us be patient, 15 years may be longer but at least it would prove beyond any doubts that Benitez is a second rate manager. Liverpool the club and Liverpool the fans deserve better than this.

Changing Benitez will lead to nowhere except waiting for 10 more years, whats the guarantee somebody else will bring the title!!! We may end up with another Houlier, then we willneither get get the title but also can forget Champions league. As for the acquisitions of benitez, lots have convinced..even Kuyt who is shit in the EPL has a role to play in Champions league matches..if i was benitez he would have had played only in those match and with the reserves, no more Premier league.

Everyone is perfect after the game,Benitez is no good Kuyt is a crap Man Utd where lucky its better we had babel from the start etc etc,I always hear them saying never change the winning team and so we won in the champions league and started with the same formation,coming for the game we where unlucky not to score twice and would be the end for utd.on the other way the first attempt they had they scored. Cannot see how anyone thinks sticking with Benitez will achieve anything. Kick him out now - nothing will get worse. Let him stay and continue with his crazy rotation, wrong team selections etc, etc and we will end up exactly where are heading - 20 points plus off the pace.

Rightly so, nobody in their right mind wud call for his head wen the team is doin well.. Nodody wud hav dreamt of him leavin the club wen he mater-minded the CL victory in 05.. Yet wen sumtin goes wrong, everyone wants him off..
Changin managers is a gamble, one tat cud pay off or prove a bigger disaster den keepin Rafa.. We cant entirely blame Rafa cos i saw 2 diff sides against Marseille n Man U.. One played brilliant attacking football n another who jus seemed to crumble under pressure or maybe jus switched off in a flash.. Problem is they show 2 m uch respect against the big teams..
Had we played a better team against Reading, we'd hav an extra 3 points now.. We're playing Portsmouth next, sumhow i fear for us.. These are teams that we shud be comfortably beating home n away, but jus watch us struggle.. We'll be lucky to come away wit a point.. Criticalmind, do you agree Rafa has spent enough money in 4 seasons to at least expect a title challenge this season? We will never be as rich as ManUre or Chelsea, we know this. So does that mean we should EXCUSE THE MANAGER HIS F-CK ups and say we can't expect to win the league because they buy more expensive players?
Strange how Wenger has always spent less than Fergie or Chelski yet has shown infinitely more understanding of the Premiership than Rafa.
How many teams can have a £25 million forard like Torres, a £30 million midfielder like Gerrard, a £17 million player like Mascherano, a £11 sub like Babel? Playing the poor manager card is denying the realities of Rafa's failures in the league. His record against the big 3 is a joke, terrible. How can we win a league when we lose so often to our rivals and our manager doesn't learn. We said after lost to Utd last season we needed a striker. e got Torres. He's class. We all know we have no divine right to win the league, but to not even challenge for it until Aprl-May is a real failure by the managment. They buy and pick and motivate players and the buck stops there.
And why would we logically have to wait 10 years if Benitez is sacked in June? Are you saying Mourinho or Lippi or Rijkaard are not capable of challenging for the Premier League immediately with players like Gerrard and Torres in the team? This kind of defeatist attitude is what's wrong with fans who have swallowed hook line and sinker the idea that if yu give amanager 5 years he'll get you the league. We gave it to Houllier and we got no title. Ferguson is the exception to the rule that any longer than 3 years without ever inning a league title with the club usually means the manager won't win one.

I do agree that Rafa has spent lots of money in the past few years, and i do also agree he make lots of mistakes... But the fact is there that whenever he spent money oponents spent even more. An he do learn from his mistakes, else he would have rotate the winning team that played against marseille.
Forget Arsenal...even last year they were on the highlights after beating liverpool then what?? They got extinct from all competitions...am pretty sure same thing gonna happen this season also. yes we have not done as well, as we should have. but mourinho had a lot more cash, lippi would take a few years, just to understand english football. and rijkaard. has got a lot more world class players, than anyone. and rijkaard would be my favorite if rafa went. but i do not agree with you about them making a succsess in less time than rafa has. and wenger has done well in the prem, but arsenal are crap in europe, or they have been for years. ask fergie, mourinho, and wenger what they want, the european cup. i like you want the prem, and like you i think kuyt, is shite. but i have seen sg, alonso, carra, having bad games . thats not rafa,s fault. we do need somemore players a right sided winger, a defender, and a striker. i will tell you this if rafa does go in june, expect to lose reina, alonso, torres, and many young players in the reserves. who are by the way top, but even i won,t wait forever, but to keep sacking mangers, will not solve are problem. anyone comming in will want 3/5 years to win the prem. they will want there own staff, and players. that will put us back even further. there is no easy way, thats why i will wait, just that bit longer then i will judge...
