Liverpool boss fury at Penalty decision
Rafael Benitez spoke of his anger at the penalty decision that cost the reds the game, and at Jose Mourinho who claimed his team are "naive and pure" and he didnt see the penalty.
Mourinho said : "I haven’t seen the penalty on television, but I saw it on the pitch from 40 metres away. So to me, when Malouda opens his legs to let the ball go through to Drogba he is kicked from behind and I thought that it was a penalty.
“If you have seen it on television then it’s your job to comment on it, the same way you commented on the goal that we lost here in the Champions League semi-final two years ago. I have a naïve and pure team, because we do not have divers or violent people or make nasty tackles, and we don’t have people diving into the swimming pool.”
Rafa responded by saying : “If they are naive and pure, then I’m Little Red Riding Hood.
“I won’t say any names, but you can check the team and think how many times they do the things that he says they don’t. I remember a lot of situations in the last three years. And today you could see his players talking to the referee all the time.”
Speaking about the penalty decision, Rafa said: “What penalty? Jose Mourinho said that he couldn’t see the penalty, but that’s normal – 45,000 people couldn’t see it!
“I want to have a lot of respect for the referees but sometimes you cannot understand why they do these kind of things. I don’t think the referee can explain properly why he gave the penalty, because it’s impossible to explain it.
"We created enough chances to have won the game and we would have won it but for an invisible penalty awarded against us,. he referee made a mistake and it was unbelievable. Everybody could see it wasn't a penalty and it's a pity as it cost us two points.
"We are so disappointed because we played well against a good team but the decision that went against us, you just can't explain it.
"It is unbelievable. How can you take this decision? It is unbelievable. A team that is working so hard how can you change a game like this? Clearly the game was under control but this kind of decision is something you cannot explain. Maybe he was under pressure all the time. Anyway I prefer not to say too much."

You Have To Be Impressed
Well we can't change anything about the chelsea game, and we may never get to hear rob styles version of event at Anfield, but yeah philk14 your right the chelsea scum would be sending death threats to the ref, his wife, mother, his cat and the goldfish, but i was very impressed with the way we approached the game, they did'nt seriously trouble reina at all, and barring 2 unfortunate penalty decisions, we still have not conceded or look like giving goals away in open play, i know it's only 2 games but hey it's the kind of start we were all praying for, i thought riise had the best chance with his volley to win it, following good play from gerrard and pennant, obviously it was'nt perfect but rafa's trying to be more attacking and they can only improve on that with some clinical quality finishing, i'm not so sure about babel starting as pennant playing well, but still laid a crap ball to torres for good opening and he's bound to miss games as he want's to get booked every match, rafa really is spoilt for choice when it comes to team selection, chelsea pretty much settled for a draw when crouch came on, can't wait to see how we get stuck into the sunderland.
Thought Riise should have
Thought Riise should have left that volley for Torres. He gave him a shout and looked to be winding up for a shot as he had his eye on the ball all the way across.
Thats Riise for you though, going for the spectacular when there's easier options out there. He had an other one before that where he could have taken a touch and then hit it. But he went for the volley and made a mess of it. Also took a shit free kick right at the wall.
He's a bit of a mutton head that lad. I think Rafa's losing patience with him. He did't look impressed at all. He nearly let Terry in for an easy finish in the first half too.
Play Babel from the start on the left and drop Riise to the bench.
Riise- Winger or Average Defender with an eye for Goal ?
I Believe Riise is better overlapping running at the defense from our own half.... He did it so effectively and got forward so well into attacking positions whilst also providing decent service from the flank i started calling for Rafa to play with the idea of moving JAR to the wing spot allowing young Warnock after his impressive debut to slip in at the LB (Yes it was that long Ago).
However after 2 years of asking for it - I thought on Sunday JAR looked lost at times and relatively inaffective in his new role; though to my knowledge he still hasn't had enough time to adapt to this new role. I do agree however if he fails at this spot he may run into some trouble for playing time with Arbeloa impresssing @ LB and Babel about to regular first team play on the left and cutting in ...
RIISE - 1ST GOALSCORER
I FANCY RIISE HAVING A TENNER ON RIISE TO GET OUR 1ST GOAL AT SUNDERLAND ON SAT. I THOUGHT HE FOUND SOME GREAT POSITIONS AGAINST CHELSEA GOING FORWARD, BUT HE'S FINAL TOUCH- SHOT ON GOAL LET HIM DOWN. ANOTHER DAY AND HE COULD HAVE SCORED. I THINK HE IS MORE EFFECTIVE AS A WING BACK HE GETS FORWARD WELL, CROSSES FAIRLY WELL AND OVER ALL CAUSES A THREAT.MY ONLY RESERVATION IS WETHER BABEL WOULD BE BETTER IN THE SAME ROLE.
DO WE NEED A LEFT BACK ?
NOW THAT OUR EFFOERTS TO SIGN HEINZE LOOK SET TO FAIL, SHOULD WE CONTINUE OUR SEARCH FOR A LEFT BACK ? DO WE NEED ONE ? OR ARE RIISE AND ARBELOA UP TO THE JOB?,
I'M IMPRESSED BY ARBELOA BUT ACCEPT HE'S PLAYING OUT OF POSITION, HE APPEARS A SOLIS PLAYER, RIISE HASNT CHANGED MCH OVER THE YEARS AND IS A PRETTY GOOD FULL BACK GETTING FORWARD AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.OTHER THAN HEINZE THERE ARNT MANY TOP LEFT BACKS AVAILABLE, DO WE HAVE A YOUNGSTER WHO MAY MAKE THE GRADE ?
Following the collapse of
Following the collapse of the heinze signing i don't think we need to sign any more players of any position, we have brought enough players in since may, if anything occurs injury wise we will have to address it in january, but the squad we have is definitely big enough, because some players are not even travelling to games, that in itself may be good thing by rafa as they may only be in the stadium somewhere looking pissed off about not playing and the arduous journey, lets see who's up for the challenge and how the new guys settle in, i would not start with babel against sunderland, only because it's an away game, but the toulouse or derby home games a definite yes, i think following sunderlands beating by wigan we may have scrap for the right to play some football, but lets see who's ok after the internationals, just read about rafa tearing into the football league about the heinze ruling, accusation made against LFC by man utd, and kick off times, sounds like rafa's developing a we are ready to fight any injustice mentality, did not care whether we got heinze or not, more than happy with the squad if not every single player, utd bought on youngsters as subs on sunday, and chelsea had one of thier best midfielders at right back. Anyone still fancy being a manager.
just one more
just one more player please..vincent kompany..he would be brilliant. We need another signing to compete at the top level.
AGREE WITH SCOUSE4LIFE1979 KOMPANY FOR LIVERPOOL
I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH SCOUSE4LIFE1979 VINCENT KOMPANY IS THE BRIGHTEST YOUNG TALENT IN EUROPE AT THE MOMENT, HE WOULD BE MY DREAM SIGNING BEFORE THE TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES. THIS GUY WILL BECOME A GREAT GREAT TALENT.IF YOU WANT TO SEE REAL CLASS GO ON YOU TUBE AND WATCH THIS GUY WITH WONDER.
AGREE WITH RAFA RE EARLY KICK OFFS
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH RAFA , WE SEEM TO GET MORE EARLY KICK OFFS THAN THE OTHER TOP TEAMS WHY ?
I HATE THEM TO MY MIND THEY SHOULD BE ABOLISHED. 3PM ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND 4PM ON A SUNDAY ARE THE TIMES FOR FOOTBALL.THESE EARLY KICK OFFS SEEM TO LACK ANY REAL ATMOSPHERE.
Why moan?????
Why put the results of Chelsea game on the referees back when it was our mistake!!!!
1-0 lead is always dangerous in every game, the players need to learn to score more and keep the team on the safe side, convert thir effort into goals, not just dominating the game and unable to score like in the Champion league's final!!!
Had we scored 2 goals, and Chelsea got the Fake penalty we could still have had gone through...but the strikers were unable to score more, unfortunately :(
WE NEED TO MOVE ON
GAMES AGAINST THE TOP SIDES ARE OFTON DECIDED BY ONE GOAL, STYLES MISTAKE COST US TWO POINTS. THE CONSOLATION COMES FROM THE FACT THAT WE WERE THE BETTER SIDE AND PLAYED THE BETTER FOOTBALL. NOW WE NEED TO MOVE ON A WIN AT SUNDERLAND IS ALL IMPOERTANT TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING. WE HAVE WHAT MANY WOULD DECRIBE AS EASIER FIXTURES COMING UP, WHAT IS NEEDED IS NO SLIP UPS AND MAXIMUM POINTS. NO GOOD BEING THE BETTER TEAM AGAINST CHELSEA THEN LOSING OR DRAWING WITH SUNDERLAND AND DERBY.
