Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Bolo Zenden can leave , and that Mark Gonzalez looks set to be on his way to Real Betis.
It looked last week that Zenden might have been given a new deal, but Benitez has today confirmed that the Dutchman will be allowed to discuss a deal with out clubs "I was talking with him before and I said he could talk with other teams. He knows the situation.
Mark Gonzalez is expected to sign for Real Betis after just one year at Anfield, Rafa confirmed this news : "It's clear some players will leave. We almost have an agreement with Real Betis for Mark Gonzalez, "

zenden + gonzalez
zenden is a nice guy and everything but he is just not good enough to stay at liverpool fc. mark gonzalez has struggled in the english league i do think he is more suited in spain etc and you could say he may improve next year but i think he is very close to saying bye to anfield as rafa as made it clear he wants to challenge for the title and needs quality players.
Benitez
After the disappointment of last night I still cannot believe the blind faith Benitez gets from our support.
In 2005 we won the CL after a penalty shoot out and finished miles off the pace in the League.
In 2006 we won the FA cup after a penalty shoot out and finished miles off the pace in the League
In 2007 we win nothing and finish miles of the pace in the League. Progress ???
Tactically astute my arse .We have LOST over HALF of the Premier League away games this season.
Over a Quarter of all games this season have been LOST.
Fulham have scored more away goals in the season than we have. Wigan won as many away games as we did.
The football is negative. Performances at Fulham, Man City, Aston Villa, Portsmouth were absolutely crap. (Apologies to the away fans - we are getting ready for the Champions league Final)
This morning he wants guarantees that the new owners will support the second Rafa Revolution - we need more strikers. Crouch, Bellamy, Kuyt, Gonzalez - who bought them Rafa - you did in the fist Rafa Revolution.
We are behind in the Champions League Final to a defence with an average age of 50 - bring on Harry bloody Kewell first, then Crouch and finally swap the right backs with minutes to go. Bellamy stays on the bench - tactically atute my arse.
No improvement by December this bluff merchant should go.
I missed all the build up
I missed all the build up and the aftermath of the game. I was away for two weeks. Made sure I found a bar full of reds though to watch the game. Your assesment of the final is unfair on Rafa as we controlled the game for most of it and had the chances to win when Pennant (well out of his depth) hit a feeble shot in the first half. Kuyt scuffed an effort in the same half also. In the second half Gerrard hit a similarly feeble effort to Pennants, which would have levelled the tie. Benitez's only mistake was taking off Mascerano. Kewell put some pressure when came on which showed some promise, that band wagon with everyone moaning about him has been left behind a long time ago. Try catching up and you'll see he is a class player and is our only creative influence.
In a way the game really reflected our season. Looking strong as unit but with no finishing power up front. As a result we fall behind and leave it too late to catch with any sort of performance. Another factor this season has been the dissapointing Steven Gerrard. He has a problem when asked to change positions for LFC, but when it comes to England he'll play anywhere he's asked and be happy and play well. He has had a shit season and could do with getting dropped to teach him a lesson. The lesson is that he is lucky to play for LFC and not the other way round.
Philk14 NO ONE is above the
Philk14 NO ONE is above the team absolutely NO ONE but to say drop Stevie G to teach him a lesson ... is just WOW. You and me know exactly how important he is to the club ... just how precious his goals have been in the dying seconds just how much it means to him .. when others are hiding he comes out fighting!!! Yes I think the constant positional change does have an influence but I really wonder why rafa does it?? He's never really had to deal with a Great player like Stevie and sometimes that shows .. Stevie isn't a man to rest on his laurels and he's as hungry as a YTS LFC student ... Can't fault Stevie
re : fair??
Do you think the finals could of been reached by any other manager with the same set of funds and players? I think not......yes there is improvement in Rafa's approach, but he has his learning cap on and will deliver in the next 24 months what we all crave for.
respect
I have respected for Zenden but he has never settled at the club and i thought he would have been sold sooner. I'm still undecided on Gonzalez. I think all the hype and expectation surrounding his eventual arrival to Anfield made him seem bigger and better than he is. Rafa will clearly ship off a couple more players, Bellamy should go and run off side for some else for example.
Right decision
They just havent performed since they came, i like bolo and mark but i think rafa is right to let htem go.
comon to be honest theyre
comon to be honest theyre not that good and we need better wingers lyke simao sabrosa and Malouda!!! chris.m
Where do manure get the cash
Utd are massively in debt. The Glazer triplets sunk the club when they bought it and are just about paying off the interest on the loan.
How the hell can they be spending 50 million on 3 players, plus wages over 4 years??
The Glazers are gonna leave that club like Leeds Utd in 6 years when they realise there is no cash to be made at Old Titford, only lost.
Even Real Madrid has debts!!
Yet they continued and continue buying world class players...Benitez although having enough money is still shopping in the small markets instead of going to Harrods...ManU bought only one player last season yet win the title...but it need to be noted the did not sell half of their squad...while in liverpool all the good players were sold or sidelined after the Champions league final in 2005, and even now its the same case...selling and bringing new ones to be tested and who will fail to prove by next season...this will continue and we'll be kept waiting for eternity!!!
I can't see any best buy at the horizon for liverpool...not even a decent striker!!!
Why exactly do we take so long?
Rafa must get very annoyed in fairness at how slow we sign players. Ferguson realised Spurs were making moves for Nani and immediately sent Gill and Queiroz to secure the deal in Portugal and it was done in a few days.
Parry would have taken a month. He has talked about Simao so long it's like we have signed him ten times over yet he never plays in Liverpool shirt. It's utterly unprofessional.
I notice Anelka is in the French squad again. It annoys me really we don't sign him. He is a class striker for less than 10 million. Way better than anything we currently have on our books. If Owen and Anelka returned to Anfield this summer for less than 20 million it would be great business. But Rafa seems to have a grudge against them both and prefers the workhorses like Kuyt. You need a mixture though and that's why we need a striker who might indeed be lazy, but if he scores the goals he's ideal. I wonder if Benitez would have tolerated a player like Romario who Bobby Robson said was extremely lazy but lethal in front of goal.
Yes -Why exactly do we take so long?
The news on other websites is that negotiations have broken down on a big signing and Parry is involved. At the same time Man Utd seem to be making major strides in the transfer market. Time & time again in the past we have seen this - Transfer issues dragged out for extended periods. It is banal!, incompetant! and totally unaceptable! (if not to say an abuse of the best fans in the world). A club of Liverpool's ambition and history must be leading the way in the transfer market. No further prevarication and bungling. Instead:- Swift, incisive, sucsessfull interventions into the market - so that we get our targets rapidly. We must pursue our targets with far more elan!
All the best will have gone
Yet again we hear that the Manc shit have singed big players.
WHY does it take Liverpool so long?
Ferguson hears some one sniffing around his main targets (so they must be half decent) and in he goes with the dosh.
It takes Mr Parry a week to think were to catch the plane let alone open talks,
Come on Rick, John Lenon airport is were you go, you are letting the club ,players and fans down, you have to act a lot more decisively on transfers.
Shop at M&S you get quality, shop at Lidil and you get what you pay for (sh*t)
lets spend some of uncle Sams dollars on class, PLEASE.
Anelka linked with the scum
It seems Utd are making enquiries about Nicki Anelka. It would be a terrible fcuk up by Benitez if he lets Utd get Anelka when the lad has said many times he'd love a return to Anfield which was the best club he played for.
We need centre forwards with quality; more than one. Anelka at 10 million is a great bargain when you look at what Torres and Villa are worth. Anelka always had the talent for the top level; he just needs to be playing for a great club again. And he rarely gets injured.
Why is Rafa so bad at buying centre forwards? Crouch and Kuyt - what top club would have bought them only Rafa?
Anelka
I couldnt believe when i heard on the radio that the Mancs are lining up a bid for Anelka in the region of £8-10 million, he is a player that would fit into Liverpools system ideally, he loves the club , the fans and what the club represents. More than that has experience of playing in the premiership compared to the La Liga players we've been touted for.
So Rafa, tell Parry to get off his arse and put a bid in for Anelka, before the Mancs can get their greasy paws on him!!!!!!
Just heard ...
Just heard theat nico anelka is a target for the mancs(sigh). it would be hell on earth if he did sign for them.He is a class act and like carrollmi said he loves the club...that sob houllier should've kept him.
remember a few months back when we were talking alot about rafa and his weird team selections ?? some mentioned he should leave .I THINK ITS PARRY THAT SHOULD LEAVE AND IF US FANS DONT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT WE WONT GET ANYWHERE WITH HIM.
HURRY THE HELL UP.
not surprised
Not surprised about Anelka. Old Red Nose Fergie isn't an idiot an he smells disorganization coming from the LFC camp .. he's seen the poor signings we've made in the transfer windows seen how slow we've been in acting ... in fact he can't believe his luck as it seems he has the chance to become the first manure manager to single handedly over turn our championship haul ... We'll you can't blame the fox for eating the chickens can you ?
Fergie doesn't worry about Pool
Ferguson doesn't regard Liverpool as his championship rivals. When was the last time we pushed him for the title? 1996 if I remember rightly and David James made sure then we wouldn't get near a title.
Chelsea and Arsenal are the clubs Fergie has his eyes on. He knows Liverpool FC have not put a challenge together for the title for donkeys years. All we do is huff and puff and fall apart by xmas in the league.
Unless we sign world class players, about three of them, then no one will consider us real contenders. Utd and Chelsea are already better teams and they will improve. So we need huge improvement in our first 11 to catch up with and overtake these two.
I don't fear Arsenal though, especially if Henry leaves. Wenger became a bit obsessed with young players and forgot that winning is all important at big clubs; if it's with 20 year olds or 40 year olds doesn't really matter when you're celebrating trophies. Maldini & AC Milan can confirm that.
How much money have we?
We seem to be in some sort of limbo in the transfer market. I thought the Americans were going to give Benitez at least £40-50 million in their first summer in charge to win the fans support.
But you'd think they'd have told Benitez immediately how much money he had to spend. If they did that Benitez would have already signed somebody because he'd know exactly how much he has to play with.
It seems, like every other summer gone by, that he has to buy and sell to get who he wants. That's why he can't just jump in and sign Simao or Malouda or whoever because he knows he won't have the cash later for the star striker he wants.
It all seems so unprofessional yet again that the sumer transfer funds
weren't agreed upon as soon as the Americans took over. And what happens if the two Americans fall out over hwow much they will spend? Will we have an Evans/Houllier scenario and if so who takes over sole ownership and how wealthy are they on their own?
I am not optimistic about twin ownership of such an expensive club to run.
possibly not as much as we
possibly not as much as we thought with Parry declaring today that we are out of the running for Daniel Alves!funny thing about waiting or La liga to conclude before doing business is that Real don't seem to do it that way and are actively courting players as we speak! Rafa doesn't take a holiday and loose ground in the transfer market if the finance is all above bored. methinks Gill and Hicks are having a whip round to raise some much needed funds and have told Rafa it will be all sorted when he's back. Mean while Parry has been spotted in a notorious Mersey boozer with a stripper!!! Last bit I made up!!
Players we should have kept..
It seems to me we had a better squad of quality players in 2001-2002 than we have had under Benitez.
To think we had Owen, Anelka and Jari Litmanen up front in 2002 is amazing considering the lack of quality strikers we have had since. All three of them were excellent players and Litmanen would have done far better under a better manager than Houllier.
Vladimir Smicer and Patrick Berger were also two good squad players, when fit. They both had a bit of quality compared to Zenden or Gonzales.
Benitez has brought in and got rid of an awful lot of players and seems to want to do it again this summer if he can. That doesn't really build a settled, experiend squad who know each other. I'm sure Ferguson knows the likes of Brown, O'Shea, Fletcher and Silvestre are not very good players but they are so used to the Man U set up they can do a job when they come in for a few games. They have that experience playing for Utd.
Our squad will never be settled if we keep getting rid of so many every season. Two or three yes, but not too many changes. And some of our young homegrown players should be brought through and given a few games because they have the passion for the club more than Gonzales and co who did get games.
Jari Litmanen
I totally agree with you about Jari Litmanen. A truly great player and a class act!. How on earth did we let that slip? I hope we learn from that!
