Zenden.

Zenden was kinda good VS Chelsea. He whipped in crosses, attacked. He guess this is his best performance in a Reds shirt.

It's glory round the fields of Anfield Road

2 finals in 3 years is superb

I still cannot really fathom how Benitez has managed to get us to two European Cup finals in three years. It's an amazing achievement with a team very few would regard as one of the top 3 teams in Europe.

It seems to be built upon supreme passion, self belief and organisation. In 2005 and 2007 we lack world class forwards. Our strikers work hard but lack a clinical edge. But our defence has been incredible in both campaigns, mainly Jamie Carragher; as good a centre back as Liverpool FC have ever had.

Also the midfield has worked like Lions and protected the defence and the goalies on both occasions, Dudek in '05 and Reina last night, have performed heroics.
Like the old days at Anfield, you can become too used to success and forget what a great achievement it is to reach a European Cup final. All the biggest clubs in Europe from Madrid to Milan to Munich dream about getting to Euro finals. For Benitez to do it twice with a team which clearly isn't the finished article is astounding. Well done to him.

I hope Milan get through; I couldn't bare to lose a European Cup final to the scum. It'd be heartbreaking to lose to anyone; but the thought of them beating us and lifting our trophy would be too much. And Ferguson has had enormous luck against Rafa so I would prefer Milan.

the final

iwould love to beat the mancs we owe them a good hiding but your right could not face loosing to them i think milan will beat them 1 nil but we have beaten barca chelsea to beat the mancs as well would be superb why dont they change it to wembley if the mancs get there so we can all go come on tou mighty reds

CARRA

JAMIE CARRAGHER IS A HERO!!!!! He's my Man Of the Match, no question about it. the Liverpool lads were astounding last night, especially Agger, but ESPECIALLY Carra. He was a like a warrior out there...fantastic! Last night was brilliant and now we have the final to look forward to. If its AC Milan or Man U it will be an event to cherish(hopefully!).

come on boys MAKE THE LIVER BIRD SING!!!!!!!

AC Milan are class

Half time in the San Siro and Milan have absolutely outclassed the great bluffers from Old Trafford.

But I have to say, when AC Milan click they are awesome to watch. Beautiful football, great defending, great mentality. An awesome team.

But they know Liverpool Football Club have the pedigree and heritage the Old Trafford bluffers lack. And they won't walk over us so easy! Not as long as we don't let Kaka run riot like he did in the first half in '05.

Heart of Anfield must conquer

I've been reading a few comments from AC Milan and it's obvious they badly want revenge for 2005. They are a formidable team and to beat them in two European Cup finals would be truly amazing as they have been the best team in Europe since 2003.

Liverpool have to aggressively tear into Milan and not give them a minute on the ball. We need to rough Kaka up and be physically superior to them because technically they are much better than us. They can pass the ball much better and retain possession to save their energy.

We really need the lads to stand up to Milan physically and mentally because most people everywhere will think AC Milan will get revenge for a final they should have won in 2005. Liverpool's passion, however, and self belief in the greatness of our club can overcome a Milan team with weaknesses in their defence. In midfield we need to tackle and hussle them off the ball like never before. That is where they are exceptional because up front Inzaghi is old and Gilardino is 2nd rate. We have to win the midfield battle and not let Kaka have the space to cause havoc.

It is going to be a fantastic occasion and I'm delighted we're playing AC Milan. I admire them greatly and it will make beating them in 2 European Cup finals all the more prestigious!

ac milan

am i the only one who thinks milan are not a great team anymore the mancs were crap there defence was crap and it has been for a while now ac have kaka yes we have sg we have reina there keeper is crap remember at old trafford he was shite they out played the mancs yes but i still think they have seen better days they have a lot of players who are well over 30 if we play at pace with widemen we should get at them keep kaka under wraps be honest how many of there players would you buy we learned after the first half when we played them last time no room for kaka and we scored 3 all so remember there is no crespo who played superb for them as did shevenko they depend on kaka ireckon masch will keep him in place i only hope are stikers take the chances they get barca are a better team than ac milan were liverpool we are the cream of europe ask chelsea and barca

Harry Kewell to start final?

Looks like Harry is ready to make his customary Cup final appearance. I would start him on the left ahead of Zenden any day.

I wouldn't like to see Arbeloa start left back so Riise can be left midfield. He's not experienced enough for us. Also, Riise is solid at left back in a big game. He won't do anything stupid. We took a risk playing Traore at left back in '05 and it was a mistake. We shouldn't take the risk again with Arbeloa.

Alonso has to start with Mascherano or Sissoko in the centre and Gerrard will be pushed out right to quieten Jankulovski's runs. Therefore out the left wing it will be Zenden or Kewell and I would go for Kewell. Rafa likes his quality and he is well better than Zenden. If he's fit we know he has quality and we will need it to beat Milan.

what a great week i am having

what a great week i am having first the best team in the world are going to the final then haha man utd losing what a week cant wait for 23rd may WISHING YOU LADS ALL THE VERY BEST OF LUCK REDS FOREVER

my starting line up

--------------reina-----------------finnan--caragher--agger--riise--------sissoko----------mascroarno-----------------alonso----------------------------------------------------------------gerrard------------------------kuyt-----crounch---------

chavski R ballacks's picture

sorry about that

my starting line up would be
reina
finnan
caraggher
agger
riise
then just in front of them
sissoko and mascroarno
then alonso
with gerard in front just behind kuyt and crouch

Good team Chavski

I actually thought Benitez should have used that team at Stamford Bridge rather than stick to 4-4-2 and be forced to use Zenden.

I think Alonso in the centre of the three with Sissoko and Mascherano hunting down the Milan midfielders would allow Gerrard a free role. He's definitely our best offensive player most likely to score a crucial goal but he seems to need a free role to get the best of out him these days.

I think Rafa will stick to 4-4-2 though and Kewell will start. Zenden did ok but can't offer enough so he can't start the final. If he does it's a mistake.

Gattuso: Reds a long ball team

Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has branded UEFA Champions League final opponents Liverpool 'a long ball team'.

The two giants of the European game will reprise their 2005 showdown in Athens later this month following contrasting semi-final wins.

Liverpool edged past Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out, while Milan were magnificent in thumping Manchester United 3-0 at the San Siro.

Gattuso has compared the two Premiership rivals and feels Liverpool are no match for their Manchester counterparts.

"I feel there is a noticeable difference in talent between Manchester United and Liverpool, and that we have beaten the better side of the two," said Gattuso.

"United have far more technical players, who are quick and able to do things on the ball. Liverpool do not have those individuals.

"What they have is a way of playing as a team. They are like an Italian team of 10 years ago.

"All they try to do is defend together, with everybody behind the ball and just one striker. Every ball is a long ball."

Gattuso is also relishing a midfield battle with Steven Gerrard, following the Reds captain's critical comments of the Italian in his autobiography.

The former Rangers ace added: "If he wants to say bad things about me to get me going, I'm very happy.

"I now have 20 days to prepare to play against him again.

"I still say I have respect for him and like the way he plays. I'm looking forward to playing him again and looking him in the eye before it starts."

Gattuso is comical

Of course Gattuso will criticise Liverpool; we beat them in a European Cup final. He'll compliment Man U because Milan outclassed them so he can afford to be generous. Milan would love it if we played like Utd and they'd be full of compliments for us too; knowing they'd whip us.

But Gattuso and Ancelotti will not compliment Liverpool because they know Liverpool's style can beat them. They know Liverpool's heart and passion can beat them. So they'll insult it because they fear it.

I have long said I do not believe, in fact it's clear to everyone who watches Liverpool, that we are not an entertaining team to watch for a neutral. Benitez's team get results but rarely with the style Milan show. But we aren't a long ball team week in week out and the games against Chelsea were English derbies where you get no time on the ball anyway.

We need to use Crouch against Nesta and play direct and fast and furious because Milan fear a typical English style team.

athens

rafa wont make the same mistake twice, although milan were good the other night, lets not get carried away, this games over 90 minutes not 180,celtic were unlucky in the san siro so were bayern munich but they (bayern), thought it was job done. there is on paper some awesome battles to be won, but, the reds will im that confident do it again boys, see ya there

manager game

if any of you like football manager games go to www.soccermanager.com
get a team in world chapionship 725
and add me as contacted
my name on it is john arne riise

Gattuso can say what he

Gattuso can say what he likes, it may be his and thier downfall that they want revenge so badly, Milan were supreme in disposing the mancs the other night, they did to united what they did to us in the 1st half in istanbul, but they play like that if you let them, it's all about on the night, many finals have seen the big players not perform, hopefully it will be more of thiers than ours, besides rafa will come up with a plan it just has to work on the night, they are a good team with the best player in the world ( Kaka ), it won't be easy or impossible, the players obviously believe in themselves and the manager or we would not be on or way to Athens.
Good to see so many puting names to letters, barring a few regulars you should do this when criticizing as well, called the Milan vs Liverpool final after the 1st leg, shame to the ITV1 & Sky experts for doubting two of europes most decorated football clubs.
we get to wear the famous red, so be loud and well behaved to all who travel.

Traore, Baros, Garcia, Dudek

All of these players started in Istanbul and they were all, in my eyes, not good enough. Dudek was a hero by the end but even during the game he was a nervous wreck. Garcia is a liability if he doesn't score and Baros was 2nd rate. Traore was a joke.

Milan don't have Shevchenko, Crespo and Jaap Stam from that team in Istanbul. They are three class players. Surely this suggests we have a better chance to match them? The game against Man U was misleading for two reasons; namely that O'Shea, Brown and Fletcher are poor players who were found out. And 2ndly, Ferguson hasn't got the self-belief or tactics for big European games. One final in so many attempts proves that.

As long as we get into the faces of Milan and set a high, frenetic tempo, I am confident we will win in 90 minutes. If we sit off and admire their passing like the 1st half in Istanbul they'll butcher us.

i agree

i agree with u 1red1pool at istanbull we were 3.0 down & i didnt want 2 watch anymore but the last few minutes came & wow 3.3 then winning again on pens 4 me i dont like penalty shoot outs i know it makes the games more interesting but you still wonder are they gonna do it
