Benitez: Reds deserved victory

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez says The Reds deserved their 2-1 win over Reading today.

Liverpool were expected to dominate the game after battering PSV in midweek, and after going a goal up after 15 minutes, Reading got back into the game, and it was only 4 minutes from time that Liverpool got their win, with Kuyt heading home the winner.

Speaking about the result, Benitez said : "We knew it was going to be a difficult game, they are a tough side to play against and they pressed us and worked hard. I think we have done a good job and in the end I think we deserved to win.

“We had chances in the first half to kill the game, but at half time we knew we still had to be careful because we remember how they came back against Manchester United earlier in the season.

“We made a mistake for their goal and then we had to try to change things by bringing on different players to give them more problems.

“We still have work to do to finish in the top four. We have to be careful, but hopefully we will play in the Semi Final of the Champions League and if we can win enough games before then, it will enable us to focus on that competition.”

unconvincing

I wasn't convinced that Liverpool did deserve the win against reading.Of course I'm glad and we won and towards the end we did push but for the majority of the match reading were all over us and gunnarson was unbelieveable. They were extremely impressive and they may have deserved a point for their fantastic display. However Liverpool did show them up with two brilliant goals from Arbeloa and Kuyt. Our defense was almost unbreakable yesterday and if we do deserve a win it is purely down to them and Kuyt. Our Midfield was a disgrace, including Gerarrd and I'm not to going get started on our starting forwards because We are all sick and tired of berating a certain beanpole striker.

Didn't see the game!!

That bad CKane ??? Not a fan of the 4-4-2 as it restricts stevie if he's on the wing! Reading are a very good side considering the funds they have at their exposure and they are a team to expose any flaws a particular system may have. It's testament to the spirit that Coppell has installed over there at the madjeski.

ability wise LFC are up there but I sometimes wonder about the mentality, none more so than a hungry crouch scoring a perfect hat trick against Assnal!
Why only produce that kind of display when your backs against the wall, where was that hunger desire and determination early on in the season ?

It's baffling but I salute supporters such as ckane who are honest in their evaluation

3pts is 3pts

yes, we rode our luck at times against reading but we got the result and another 3pts, that's the important thing. we are all entitled to our opinions but mine is divided on peter crouch. when you look at his hat-trick against the gooners and his header against psv you do think "bloody hell, how come he can do it now but not 5mths ago?" but at the same time he gives us that extra dimension, he has scored some very important goals for us this season and there are worse stikers about than crouchy! so come on guys, give him a break, he's not that bad!
i can't wait to see who rafa does bring in over the summer striker wise, it is gonna be interesting to say the least. me personally i'd like david villa from valencia as he is a more natural finisher than someone like eto'o.

Crouch again

Im not going to give him any stick, everyone fucking loved him last week when he got 3 against the gooners, and he got a header against PSV(thought he couldnt use his head?)

He's just a scapegoat for when we get a shit result, at the end of the day if Benitez thought he wasnt good enough, he would have got rid by now.

not everybody loved him when

not everybody loved him when he scored against Arsenal. I for one don't think he has earned the love of Liverpool fans even though he scored a great hat-trick. The amount of times we have seen him mess up a chance to score a goal or like yesterday when he just RAN AWAY FROM THE BALL...TWICE!!!! He does not deserve to play for Liverpool but we have to keep him until we sign a truely class striker (eto'o???). It makes me fume that you,in your comment, and others can insinuate that he is a good enough player for Liverpool, and it makes me even more angry that i have been provoked to winge about him again even though i'm sick of it and i'm sick of him!

I'm not provoking you. I

I'm not provoking you. I find it annoying that everyone blames Crouch when something doesn't go our way. He has scored some important goals this season, hes missed his fair share at the same time, but hes been better than Kuyt.

Crouch has delivered in important games, Benitez sees that too, today he has come out and said he doesnt want to sell him.

Eto'o will cost a bomb, if we get him then great, but cant see it happening myself.

Crouch

Crouch is obviously not the only problem when things go wrong as up front, we are very weak. It annoys me when Crouch is singled out too, he is not the only one who is not performing well enough, nobody ever points out the fact that Bellamy is always off-side or that Kuyt hasn't exactly shone for us this season. I think everybody picks him as the fall-guy because he is our main striker and he is not even that good, which is true no matter what you say because he is not a top class striker, meaning he's not a 20-goals-a-season man (in the league!)so you can see how this is frustrating for us all, especially when we see Ronaldo and Drogba scoring week in, week out. I really hope Crouch Can Keep his form and carry on scoring goals for us, especially with this champions league tie with chelsea approaching , he may well be our only hope so he must rise to the occasion and even though i'm hardly his biggest fan, as a liverpool supporter i'm backing him all the way!

Is there a bit

SCOUSE4LIFE1979's picture

Is there a bit of selfishness in the squad ?? Everyone today ..well almost everyone wanted to go for glory where a different source of action would of helped more...yes we won the game and congrats to kuyt..but something was wrong with the team...the passes were terrible in the first half ..other than the great game pennant had the rest were below par...Alonso was out of form totally ..dont know what was wrong with him...again we won the game but it wasnt a great display until the end to be honest..its true we didnt give them a chance except one which was a great save by pepe .

I have been looking for our own titus bramble ...i found it in traore and now szenden has the rein...he doesnt deserve to play in a red shirt to be honest...only the one which he wore in boro.

Good news arse and bolton lost so our CL place is safe...nice to see bellers back...and again congrats to the lads but it was a poor game.

other things on their minds

the liverpool players only have 1 thing on their minds at the mo nd we all know what that is.....chavski on wed nite. rafa can say to the players what the hell he likes but such is our situation in the league at the mo, i.e how comfortable it is, it must be extremely difficult to think about about anything else but chavski in the champions league. liverpool today strolled it really, as if they are saving it for wed nite and i hope that is the case.
good luck to rafa and the lads wednesday, let's show these "life-long chavski fans" what we are REALLY about!!!!! YNWA
