We are now in the proud position of 4th place as the Rafa Benitez progress march continues, light years away from Chelsea and the Mancs and falling way behind a developing Arsenal.
Champions League hysteria is taking over our proud club. History states we are the geatest British club side ever but for how much longer ?
Champions League daydreams or Premiership reality ?
You get nothing for coming second - fouth is a bloody disgrace....

otleyred on 4th
I can appreciate your frustrations but what do you offer as an alternative?
We have new owners who are promising an injection of cash and a brilliant manager who so far has made a silk purse from a sows ear.
Ok so were not quite there yet as far as the team goes but we have to recognise we are/have not been in the same league finiancially as Chelsea and the mancs.
A bit of realism and support for what we have aceived is required IMO.
You must be crazy! Agreed we
You must be crazy!
Agreed we aren't in the position we wish we were, but lets face it we have known for many weeks now that we were not going to win the league.
As you said 2nd is nothing, and lets face it finishing 3rd instead of 4th is no real big deal.
Final aims for this season should be to finish in the top 4 (who cares if it is 4th instead of 3rd - other than smug Arsenal fans).
And try to progress as far as we can in the Champions League, and I feel the way the team can play in Europe there is not many people writing off our chances of winning it again.
We should get behind the guys for the rest of the season, the new boys can settle in further and next year - who knows????
Frustration
We cannot be convinced we have a brilliant manager with absolutely no progress being made in the League at all. Yes we have the dawning of a new era but you have to question Benitez in the transfer market. He has brought in Crouch, Pennant, Aurelio and others - these players are not League Title winners. Voronin is not the level of player we are looking for and I am not convinced Benitez has the ability to step up a level. It is well documented his passion for work horses. Valencia were not exciting to watch and above all you have to win more points away from home in the Premiership, and against tougher opposition, than you meet in La Liga. I do not advocate 2 managers or assistants but it is the first time in many years that we do not have a scouser directly involved in the coaching staff. Moran, Evans, Lee, Thompson etc take you back to the early sixties. Their knowledge of the Club & the English game had to be invaluable particularly preparing for "tough" away games. I think this is lacking and Benitez would be a better manager for having John Aldridge, Steve McMahon etc working with him. He has obvious talents for Europe but we need to regain the top position at home - it's where we belong.
good points
I think this season will be a real tester, if we win Europe or get to the final Rafa will be fine but if we don't it's a season of no silverware whatsoever and 4th place.
Whilst that isn't the end of the world the transfer window will no doubt see new stronger players join Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U so the gap may get larger still.
As Otley says above are the likes of Aurellio, Pennant and Voronin truely world class and enough to compete with the top 3 moving forward.
Looking forward to PSV only a few weeks away now, I think the pressure is on even more after the great Barcelona result.

It's glory round the fields of Anfield Road
Honesty is needed
It's time all fans were honest and admitted that when Rafa took over no one thought in his 3rd year we'd be 19 points off top spot.
His European form has been very good but we're always underdogs in Europe, fighting against the odds with nothing to lose. Except last year when we lost to Benfica. At home, we're usually favourites and in reality no one but ourselves think we're as good as Manure, Chelski or Arsenal.
So it's pointless these blinkered eyed fans trying to tell everyone everything is great and we're only a striker off winning the league. The other teams will improve too in the summer so who knows how things will turn out next year. Benitez needs to start buying better players and many of his own buys have been poor. Half of Wenger's players were cheap - Adebayor, Rosicky, Van Persie - but they have much better potential than Crouch, Kuyt or Aurelio.
Most of us like and respect Rafa, even if his football is very ordinary, but at the end of the day we love the club. And if the performances week in week out aren't great, there's no point putting your head in the sand. Being loyal to the club is being honest when we're not very good and need to improve rapidy in some areas. Not coming up with excuse after excuse. Too many fans are better at finding excuses for the manager than actually pointing out where he could be better so we might actually get where we all wnt to be with Rafa.. the Premiership title.
err i think most fans
err i think most fans are honest in saying that rafa has done wonders for this great club..and lets not forget mate that this is only his 3rd season in charge and that he has done alot better than others have. How many times do i have to mention that a manager requires time and so do the team..he brought plenty of new players in and in a short space of time and that on its own requires time ...the players need to gel and basically its just some bad luck...so stick by rafa and stop being so negative...we all want to win the EPL not only u mate ..Now we got a new chairman and new investment..lets see where it takes us next year yeah and wait for the outcome........Fergie one his first ever trophy after six years...jose won it the first year but had loads of money to spend...arsene also won his first ever trophy after a few years and im sure its more than rafa ...SO WOULD U PLEASE JUST GIVE HIM TIME OR BETTER YET GO DOWN THE ROAD AND SUPPORT THE DIRTY MANCS.
Wenger won in his 2nd year, fool
Wenger won the title in his first full season, 97/98, so get your stats right, mate. He arrived during the 96/97 season. Anyway, you should read before you write drivel Scouse4life.
No one, to my knowledge, is attacking Rafa or calling for his head. NO ONE. What real fans want is to stop listening to bulls-it from fans like you who were the same when fans started to question Houllier's methods. Three seasons is long enough in any league to build a team to at least compete for the title and Benitez himself admits they haven't done as well as they should in the league. Read Gerrard's autobiography and it says after the FA Cup final Benitez was saying they had to do better in the league. That was last year. So even the man himself knows he hasn't done as well as he should in the league.
Bad luck? You wouldn't make much of a defence lawyer, mate. Every manager who gets the sack cries about bad luck. Reasons for lack of results go much deeper than that.
Rafa will be in charge for the next 2 years even if he wins nothing between now and then. Most people are happy to give him that time; but he needs to start getting it right in the league because the sh1t excuses you come out with doesn't hide the facts. Houllier was the same but in the end all the bulls1it in the world couldn't win him the league.
If there wasn't fans beginning to worry after 3 seasons and being 19 points off top spot, 17 years since our last league title, then the club really would be in trouble.
Easy!!
Alright you two step back an have a breather, cos we all want the same outcome!
I first came on this site and was perhaps a bit bullish with post and that, not really taking into account other supporters views and the ways in which we express ourselves differently.
My views about Rafa hasn't changed but all I can do is put up posts about where I think he's gone wrong and support the lads before and after games. Yes he's made some duffer signings and shows a worrying lack of understanding of the EPL but I'm of the opinion we have to let this one play itself out. We are all fans and if he does win the prem I don't want other fans turning round going told ya so just as If he cocks it up I'm not gonna wanna shout told ya so!
We have new owners who want success, this situation is as much a test for them as it is for Rafa... will they be happy bank rolling a coach who is not improving on the domestic front ??
LFC have been loyal over the years (some may say too loyal) and it's not a habit easily rescinded so we'll have to let time do it's thing for a while ... It's a shame that we have reached this situation with the amount of success the clubs enjoyed over the years but we must learn from our mistakes and I for 1 am watching closely ... and like to think I'm big enough to admit a mistake!
The cash is there .... the stadium is on it's way ...
It is in effect SHOW TIME !!!
Good post Tyron26, I've said
Good post Tyron26,
I've said often enough i like Benitez as a man and hope he's the one to win the title. If he does we will all be delighted for him and the club. But these fans who try to repress any critcism of a team 19 points off top spot need to remember we're Liverpool FC; not some middle of the road claub dreaming of a title.
Where we are now in the league clearly isn't good enough after 3 years; and as always the manager in charge has to accept criticism at a huge club same as he will get praise for great results.
I have avid memories of brainwashed fans dring the Houllier era who would convince everyone they were disloyal simply to question managerial decisions. Some fans are like Houllier himself; so full of excuses they are almost incapable of accepting truth.
If Rafa is to win the league he needs to acknowledge mistakes and learn from them; not follow the lead of these moronic fans who put it all down to bad luck and tough fixtures and world cup hangovers etc etc etc. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
rafa
you make sense i like rafa too but i am afan from the 60 s when we had great managers and players i was never afan of houillers all the money he had they should have kept evans and gave him the money and we would not be were we are now next season is abig season for rafa he knows that all managers make mistakes but i reckon rafa will win us the prem souness started the downfall evans did all he could they never gave him the money they gave hou
How many of you would write
How many of you would write this season off as a failure even if we won the CL/got to the final?
As Benitez said when we went out the carling cup, he is not here to win that competition. We were out the running for the league a long time ago, but, we at least need to be playing Champions league football every year, and that is what Rafa is aiming for. 4th in the league gets us there, so does winning the trophy, so why not just enjoy this euro run now and start thinking about the league again next season.
Everyone talks about new signings/how much Benitez has to spend, but, he is not going to get rid of half the squad and sign 3 new strikers, new wingers and defenders. We could do with another right winger maybe as cover for Pennant, or to take over Pennant's position and leave him as cover, but we have plenty of central midfield players who we would be screwed without. How many of you would drop Gerrard/Alonso/Sissoko? Alright, Sissoko has had a few shit games recently, but, we have Mascherano aswell there to cover injuries/suspensions.
Benitez has the full support of the players, when Gerrard was thinking of leaving he said "whatever happens regarding my future, Rafa will lead this club to great things", if you read 'A season on the brink' all the players praise Rafa's coaching methods, saying he rang the changes as soon as he came in, brought in the zonal marking system, which was the foundation of our brilliant defensive record last season. Would the likes of Real Madrid be going for Benitez if he was crap?
Everyone wants the league title, but being realistic, the squad we have at the moment is not strong enough, but as i have said in the past, only 2 or 3 key signings are needed. With Voronin coming in i would be very surprised to see us sign another striker, the main area will surely be defence that we will go for first, as its obvious now that Rafa does not see a long term future for Hyypia, as Agger usually gets the nod above him, but if Agger/Carragher is injured/suspended then who plays central defence?
We are out the FA and Carling cup, we are too far behind to win the league, but we are still in the most coveted competition in Europe, so why is that such a bad thing to concentrate on that? I bet if we were to win then everyone saying Rafa isnt good enough would still be celebrating just as much as the next person, then saying that he's the best since Shanks/Paisley.
The future is
Come on guys, lets ALL support Raffa not slag him off. Yes 4 place is poor for a team of Liverpool's stature, but what do we do, get on at him and push him in to the arms of Real Madrid.
Listen to the players who say he is one of the best young managers around, Steve G would be a Chelski player by now if he thought that Raffa was not the biz, lets
look to the future (we have all heard it before but) Plans for a new 60k ground, money for players and the best supporters in the land.I want us to win the EPL as much as any one,it kills us all to see the manc sh1t on top, so lets all get behind the manager and trust in him, not get on his back.
The futures bright, the futures RAFFA.
good points tony!!!
some great points tony. i just wish n hope that rafa signs some quality players in the summer 07 and the new owners give rafa 50m to spend. the team needs a rite back, centrehalf, with pace, 2 wingers left n rite and 2 class strikers ie eto, villa, torres, bent. i can see rafa selling bellamy, free bosman fowler.
time gentlemen pls
I hear exactly what you are saying and I also understand the frustration of many, many fans 'we want the EPL' is the message from one section .. 'give him time' is the other !
There needs to be a good balance and at the moment 17 points off the leaders, a tough fight for 4th spot on ours hands and no news of a quality players on the horizon is understandably leaving the Gaffa open to questions !
Is it good enough ?
Is it a question of time ?
Only time will tell which is the real deciding factor ... Its a weird space to be in because we watch the lads week in week out ... but because of the rise in media outlets we get to watch football from round the world so we have a real yard stick to measure by!
We see players that we believe could really make a difference ... we see styles of football that reminds us or mersey teams from yesterday and then there is a feeling that were not growing as we should ... developing fast enough .. u know the rest!
So are we in the scenario that even after 3 yrs of his management we are no closer to the EPL ... and by some accounts drifting further away ??
These are question that make Anfield Red a top blogg site and we need to keep that!
I really wouldn't watch what players say about managers in books and to cameras because at the end of the day they are glad they're picked .. I'm sure even Houllier was given props by his squad even when it was obvious he wasn't the man to lead us forward
But to go back to the point of enjoying the season ... thats what it's about !!
A Few games to go and then a fresh start
.... Rafa said it was a cash issue ... that stone has been removed ...
If Veronin is the only
If Veronin is the only striker we sign this summer then most fans would accept now we have no chance of winning the league next year. We haven't got one world class striker and we badly need one more than anything else.
As far as I've seen, NOBODY has mentioned Benitez being sacked. No one wants to see it. They just want to see an improvement in our league position and an honest acceptance that Rafa didn't do well this year in the league. Managers live and die by their decisions so being so far off top spot is it not INEVITABLE that Rafa will get some criticism by many fans at such a big club?
John Terry and Lampard loved Claudio Ranieri too and publicly didn't want him to be sacked. Now they love Mourinho. Stevie G loved Houllier and said he'd question his own future at the club if Houllier left and now Gerrard loves Benitez. You can't make long term judgements for the club based on players who might well leave anyway.
Benitez will be manager of Liverpool for the next 2 seasons at least even if he doesn't win the league or Champions League. But
the day people can't give honest criticisms of a manager who is 19 points off top spot, lost home and away to Man U, 3 times to Arsenal and 3-0 away to Everton is a very sad sign for the club. Surely the Barcelona victory doesn't hide the rest of a very average season.
If we win the Champions League again obviously everyone will praise Rafa to the nines. We all want to praise him; but when he isn't doing very well in the league then it's common sense to voice concerns and frustrations at his decisions. It is par for the course at any huge club. Some fans need to learn the term constructive criticism rather than endless excuse making. Excuses don't solve problems; being constructive and admitting that we are making mistakes in the league interms of tactics and personnel is the only way we can improve. We all are still behind Benitez; but not with red blinkered glasses that everything is destined to work out great for us. It isn't unless Rafa learns from obvious mistakes he has made.
We cant just keep signing
We cant just keep signing strikers. When Voronin signs, we will have him, Bellamy, Crouch, Kuyt and maybe Fowler, and also Sinama-Pongolle and Cisse on loan . Sinama has been playing well for Recreativo, and although he has said he is no rush to come back, i bet if he were to get a few games he would stay on.
Everyone talks of signing Villa/Eto'o, but who goes out then? you can argue that Crouch is not good enough etc, but he has scored important goals for us, Kuyt works his arse off for the team, and alright he does not get as many goals as we would like, but also theres Luis Garcia back next season, who sometimes plays as a second striker, so theres already alot of competition for a place.
Im not going to make excuses for league form, we simply are not good enough yet. Everyone expects a new signing to come in and automatically get used to the pace of the game, how their team-mates play, but every team has their flop signings. Man U in recent years have had Veron, he cost them a bomb, he turned out shite, Alan Smith, they spent £7mil on him, he cant even get a game in midfield when he was supposedly the answer for their problems. Chelsea; they have Crespo out on loan still, he couldnt cut it in the premiership, Shevchenko is always on the bench. Drogba was crap at first in the premiership, as was Henry at Arsenal.
We have had the likes of Diouf and Morientes not perform for us, no one can doubt Morientes is class, he just could not get used to it in England. The only striker to be able to consistently perform in the league for us that we let go was Anelka, people talk about Owen, but Rafa wont be interested in him now, Rafa wanted him back from Madrid before he went to Newcastle, but he was not prepared to risk not getting in the England squad.
With Houiller in the league, we were finishing 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 4th but we never really progressed to become proper title contenders, but if you look at our team then and the team now, its so much better overall, but we still need new, top performers in certain areas. Until we get a proper left back (Riise cant tackle for shit at the end of the day, but hes great going forward) Aurelio is still only a bit part player, and as i said earlier we don't need 11 new signings to win the league.
Forget the league this season, its not worth bitching about now, we are out of the running for it, the only thing we can do is hope we step it up a gear next season, and get the results against the other big teams .
concern
I agree Tony, I've written this season off .... and the last two (sorry lol) but what I think most fans are concerned about is that the squad we have now isn't strong enough to mount a proper challenge on the top two teams NEXT SEASON.
That is a real concern as it could be ground hog da all over again . Now I'm not saying Rafa needs to buy a 'super star' just to appease the fans but they have to be better than Veronin ... Why take on another mediocre striker ??
We need genuine wingers who like to beat their man and put the crosses in as well as chip in with goals .. Yes they cost money but could prove essential.
We then have the problem that in the last 3 yrs LFC hasn't really been helpful to many players careers (we all know who they are). they came with big reps and left with their ability in question, so is it harsh to suggest that we may have trouble attracting Europe's elite? ? ?
Yes Manure have brought duds but.... the dirty cunts have either still been challenging or won it so there is another side to that coin
I was reading also that Rafa is concerned and wants immediate talks with the new owners about the future of the club ...
That concerns me !!! But I'll go into that another time
But what I'm sure gets a lot of fans is that we don't seem able to get into the Gaffas head ... can't see where he's going and that is concerning!
Rafa's biggest mistake this
Rafa's biggest mistake this season has been leaving a fit Robbie fowler out of the squad for games throughout the season. We fell behind at the start of the season once again. During this period he kept playing two forwards that were trying to settle in (Bellamy and Kuyt)and weren't performing. Gerrard was shite, he was too busy sulking cos he was put out on the right. After the progress of last season I was hoping of an extra step and pushing harder for a title. Rafa looked to understand the PREM last season. But for the next two and a half months thats all being put to the back of my mind. Time to concentrate on europe and PSV for the moment.
1red1pool
no need to get pricky mate im stating my opinion and no im not a defence lawyer u stupid ignorant excuse for a "real" fan ..im a doctor..and what i know how to do is excise the tumour(dumb stupid fans like u)...i might of got the arsene wenger one right but the rest of my facts are damn well right ..u on the other hand have no patients and no belief in what liverpool fc can do ....like i always say its fans and scum like u who bring us down..and again go and support manure ..coz ur starting to smell like them.
Yeah right, fool
Scouselife,
The argument isn't about what Liverpool FC can do; so read properly, good boy. It's about the manager in charge and measuring his progress after 3 seasons in the Premiership. A lack of patience would be to call for his sacking - can you point out anyone who has made that statement? A frustration with our current position is the point and the manager is ultimately responsible for it so where else would criticism be directed?
Your reply to anyone who dare questions the manager's tactics and player choice in the EPL is for them to go and support the manure... Em, that's a very profound and mature debate for a supposed doctor who doesn't spell very well. Are you sure you're not really 14yrs and up a bit late son?? Your posts would indicate as much.
Hey! I'm 14!
I'm 14 so leave teenagers outta your comments! Besides: I can spell better than my dad and he's an English teacher! And the best posts are made late-night 'cause you've had all day to think them through!
Thank you
ps. Stop arguing. It makes me think the Liverpool fans on here are whingy little kids intent on annoying each other when really we should be using our wind ups on deafening the opposition in the Kop!
Unfair To blame Rafeal
If lfc are dominating games and creating chances ,there is nothing wrong Rafeal tactical accumen. What can Rafeal do if the players keep missing here and there ?If the player are getting in scoring positon but miss What can Rafeal do?
Throughtout the season the story have been dominating but lose.I will say Rafeal done his job in 95% of the matchs. The players have to take most of the blame .Being well love by Fans ,many will opt to chosen the less handsome Rafeal for attack.
Brain, he can do what any
Brain, he can do what any and every manager has to do if he wants to keep his job; bring in players who don't miss chances every week and can keep winning. Managers live and die by the players they buy and put their faith in. It's the same for every manager, not just a Liverpool manager. The best managers buy the right players and show faith in the right players. Rafa has done this at Valencia in the league and won the title; he has yet to buy or keep picking the right players at Liverpool or we wouldn't have been out of the title race by xmas every season since he's been there. It's just about buying the right players. Clearly too many of Rafa's haven't been good enough thus far to even challenge for the league title. This is reality, not opinion. And his love of workhorses doesn't help.
The buck stops with the
The buck stops with the manager. His tactics are fine, the fact we dominate most games(all games) shows this. But they are his players missing chances. Houllier didn't buy Crouch, Bellamy or Kuyt so he can't blame it on players that were their when he came in. I feel getting rid of Baros was a mistake, he looked to be maturing but now he has stalled cos he keeps moving clubs. By the way 1red1pool, this isn't an English class so lay off the spelling mistakes and keep it football only. For this summer Rafa should not buy players who work hard, but rather buy players who work SMART. Scouse4life, if you are a doctor. What do you do if you find blood in your stool sample?
get to a GP straight away,
get to a GP straight away, could be haemmoroids or something worse
Philk14, I couldn't care
Philk14,
I couldn't care less what spellings anyone has or hasn't; but when a guy tries to act smart claiming he's a doctor yet spells poorly then it's hard to believe.
Scouse4life could be a nice guy; I don't know him. What I intensely dislike is this pattern that emerged under Houllier's regime where Pool fans who question the manager, after 3 years of seeing his teams underachieve in the league, are suddenly told they're disloyal. It's as idiotic as it is annoying. Benitez has no divine right to win the Premiership and if he doesn't buy smart players as you said instead of workhorses then he won't win the Premiership is the common consensus. 85 million in 3 seasons he has spent; yet we haven't been in the number 1 spot once in the league in that time. So clearly he has a lot to improve on.
Hes not lying when he says
Hes not lying when he says he is a doctor, but thats not the point.
He gave his opinion , and it was something others didnt like, so what?
Back on topic, yea Houiller was criticised, but not just by Liverpool fans, all the papers were calling for his head in his last season. Houiller won us cups, but again we never got the league, so someone else had to be brought in.
If Benitez was to quit tomorrow, everyone would remember the European cup and FA Cup finals forever, and he could leave on a high, but he wants the league title, and i cant see him leaving until he gets it or we slip downwards and bring someone else in
Tony, I totally respect
Tony, I totally respect everyone's opinion on football; he was the one that initially said "SO WOULD U PLEASE JUST GIVE HIM TIME OR BETTER YET GO DOWN THE ROAD AND SUPPORT THE DIRTY MANCS." which was very immature.
No one wants Rafa to quit; he's still a fair bet to win the title in the coming years. His CV is undeniable. But he won't win it unless he learns from clear mistakes. There are so many excuse makers these days you'd swear the team were amazing and just having bad luck all the time when in reality we never get near top spot in the league. His choice of players hasn't been inspirational and this is his greatest weakness in my eyes. He focuses too much on work and not enough on skill.
1Red1Pool
Spelling mistakes ?? really ?? thats what ur going to use ?? lol mate whos the immature one then .Im not one to actually check up on my spelling because frankly i dont give a toss.I dont care who the insult comes from ..if u jump or anyone judges rafas tactics ill defend him no matter what..the season is over all i said was look to the next season and see from then ...ur such a little twit 1Red1Prick ..I dont really have much time for u..im leaving work and going for english lessons .
philk14
That depends mate ..first of all on ur age and secondly on other clinical features u might happen to have.If its watery in nature then youll be looking at irritable bowel syndrome...im happy to help with whatever u need just send me other features u have noticed and id be happy to help.
Cheers SCOUSE4LIFE
I'll be alright, have a check up booked in for next week. Just need LFC players to give me something to cheer about and I'll be flyin'. C'mon REDMEN!!!
Forget about this argument.
Forget about this argument. All thats going to happen is insults going back and forth, and i dont want anyone leaving the site over the sake of an argument on here.
Dont worry tony
Dont worry tony ..its just an expression of views and i think both me and 1red1pool love liverpool enough to let it go...and hope for better things to come in the next season...no hard feelings 1red1pool..next time take it easy yeah ??
I'm sure Scouse4life and me
I'm sure Scouse4life and me are experienced enough on fan forums not to take any disagreements to heart. It's all water off a duck's back any disputes that erupt on a fan site.
If we weren't passionate about the club no one would get into disputes so it's not such a bad thing.
I remain hopeful about Benitez as all the fans do; but I am going to call it as I see it. Next season he'll have the money so it's a very big season in the league for Rafa.
20m to spend and rafa is off?
If the rumours are true, then i can see rafa leaving and signing for madrid. what is rafa going to do with the so-called 20m? ie buy 1 leg of... eto, villa or torress. if rafa is to win the PL, next year, he needs a budget of at least 50m. rafa needs to stop shopping at the pound shop and start going to harrods.team needs quality 6/7 new players this summer.
1red1pool,you are right to a certain extend
You are right to a certain extend about manager put faith in player he buy.
Contemplate on this ,Is all the players Rafeal brought is what he wish for?For me no ,if he is can get his hand on simao and Alves ,pennant may not come to lfc .
Rafeal have to come out a transfer tactic that make sure every positon is well cover. He cannot brought a 20 million proven striker and left other positon lack depth and unable to have any
tactice ajustment when need .
Rafeal is being force to settle for the second best ,however the players he buy may not be competely world class but each of them offer somthing .Lfc can only settle for the second best
with limited fund ,Rafeal can only plot the best solution for lfc under such scenerio .
Another issue is the players are playing for Lfc not Rafeal .They are on the payroll of lfc not Rafeal, they should share equal blame when they miss a chances not becaues Rafeal slected them and he should take blame .If anyone ,decided to play the blaming games ,Rick parry please step down ,you chose Rafeal and Rafeal chose Crouch .
cash
Good points Brain cos admittedly those signings he made weren't his first choice, but during the whole Alves saga I had the feeling that the seville winger was content to stay in la liga because they seemed a better option. Guess what... they won the European cup and also are now challenging for the domestic tittle!
I really don't just see it as a matter of cash, because if Barca were to come in for the player and offered less than market rate I'm sure Alves would stamp his feet and demand his 'dream move'!
A lot of this money issue is a great defense i.e the young gunner Denilson who cost 3mill. Now we can argue that he was expensive but in truth 3 mill isn't bad for what will be a world class midfielder one day ... manure would have had 3mill lying about as would Chelski, but the young Brazilian went to assnal for football reasons i.e he would start games in possibly the most competitive league in Europe.
No, when you have a great product it sells it's self and it's as simple as that... so yes we had a 'lack' of cash but the way around that is to really put on a good show, week in week out and play with the heart of winners!
My old nan used to say 'you don't need money to have manners and be a good host' ... and what i think she meant by that was work with what you have and make it the best it can be and people will respect you for that...
I don't believe it!!

When is Revista la liga on?
When is Revista la liga on? Guillem Balague is a friend of Rafa's, and also wrote a book about him, and he doesnt tend to lie .
All he says there is that Real Madrid are after Benitez, and are prepared to offer him a large sum of money. Ill be watching this closely to see what he has to say, to be honest, i cant see Benitez going anywhere.
rafa
i cannot belive rafa is even thinking of leaving he knows the job at liverpool is not done why go to madrid ateam in decline were he will have no peace and the sack allays over his head listen to your wife in spain you were treated bad in liverpool you are shown the respect you deserve you and lpool belong to each other you never walked alone rafa and you never will
Loyal club
Deep down The gaffa knows he has the best job in football but many many managers have gone to real / barca after leaving good teams and are then stabbed in the back .... why ... well I guess that most managers are gamblers at heart and love the thrill...
I don't know when revista is on and I haven't got sky so when anyone does see the interview please post a link!!
