Champions league draw - Reds get PSV
Liverpool have drawn PSV in the quarter final of the Champions league.
The matches will take place on the 3rd/4th and the 10th/11th of April.
The other draws are:
Milan vs Bayern
Roma vs Man United
Chelsea vs Valencia
Looks like a good draw for us!
Nice Draw
We can't take them lightly. But its a good draw because its a team we have already beaten this season. If we get through we'll be playing either Chelski or Valencia away in the first leg of the Semi's. We need to treat PSV with the respect we would give any team at this stage. With two possible 2nd leg home ties on the way we have to be positive at this stage. AC Milan in the Final anyone?
Good one..
Seems a good draw, but as always ManUre got lucky by getting an easy team like roma..The rest may be we'll see a remake of 2005, Semi v/s chelsea ,and final with Ac Milan ;)
thats alright!!
You feel there threats will come from set pieces and with agger and carra in such good form this a game that we should win!
Not a bad draw but to throw up a cliche no game in Europe is every easy !!
manure arent as lucky as u think!!
Manure have a tough game with roma ...they arent as easy as some might think..chelsea surely have the toughest tie but u never know what happens in football...roma might smack the living crap out of united (oh please god let it happen)they beat lyon who are a tough side and they scored at lyon whilst away ...so heres to us progressing the the semis and chelsea and manure getting bitch slapped out!
Liverpool-United final?
We'll avoid them until the final if we both get there. Chelsea in the next round would be tough but Valencia might be even tougher. We can beat Chelsea in the cup, we know that. They can beat us too; so it'd be 50/50.
Utd might struggle against Roma alright; they never seem to be much good in Europe and every team pushes them. I believe even if they did beat Roma, AC Milan or Bayern Munich would wipe Manure away in the semis anyway. But they've had such luck lately so who knows.
PSV
KOEMAN"S BENFICA KOed our team last year...He can do that again.BUT, we beat Barca. SO, we can beat anyone in the champs league.Anyone agree?
Agree
With any team at this stage it'll be no walk in the park. We as LFC have learnt that thanks to Mr.Koeman and his Benfica side. But I feel that Chelski's arrogance will be there down fall against Valencia. They rode there luck against Porto in both legs of the 2nd round tie. Utd had a very handy 2nd round with a very poor Lille side not giving them too much hassle. Roma are strong in Serie A this season and Totti has never had as good a season as he's having now so they could hurt Utd. We'll have to keep an eye on PSV's games leading up to our clash to see what sort of form they're in and what they're likely to play like formation wise.
draw
I can't see chelski beating Valencia as they are hard working and have players with that bit of magic in the right areas of the pitch.
Manure have looked shaky in Europe (as always!!) and with Larson going back home and only leaving the out of form rooney ... well it doesn't look good!
We have got a decent tie and surely the lads must feel there may never be a better time to win it than this!!
A brunch of tough nuts
Psv look the weakest among the teams. That is only on paper .The team consist of Cocu ,an old but experience midfielder .The creative force for Psv pack a powerful left foot shoot .A very hard nut.
In Alex the Brazilian defender ,a pillar in defend and effective at setpieces similar to john terry of chelsea. He is one of the reason why psv reach this stage.A solid nut .
Gomes the brazil goolkeeper is a good shot stopper and hard to beat .A good penalty saviour as well .His performance so far have been faultless .Arsenal was repeatly being frustrated by him and need an luck own goal by Alex to beat him.A stubborn nut.
koeman have drill his team into a discipline unit.confined and restruct the opponent from playing fottball ,similar to Rafeal tactic for Lfc .This sort of play can give lfc problem and lead to few chances created .Both side will not be too eager to take risk going forward and a single goals will decide the mattch .
The worry will be lfc finishing ,again team of Psv ,the first goal is important to open them up .Lfc have not been that clincial in finishing department ,Psv have make used of limited chances to scored .Overall a bunch of tough nut lfc need to crack.
No more Alex!!
well its seems liverpool finally got some luck to be able to move to next stage as it seems the Alex the terrific Brazillian defender will be out of this season due to injury sustained in the weekend draw of Psv.
jareel13
ur disgusting mate..enjoying someone elses injury..we could of beaten them with him in the team ...i do believe we have done that already this season !!
in form and out form...
well its a big difference when u are playing an inform player and playing outform player..the guy was the in form player for psv in the last few weeks with excellent defending and better goalscoring capability unlike liverpool which have out of form strikers like kuyt or peter crouch, my post was just made for some fans like "brain" who just posted that liverpool will be facing some tough nuts...so read all the fuck1ng post before...mine was just an addition of brain relief!!!
Dirty Mancs
Watching the World 11 at old frafford and can't believe the way they are booing stevie G and Robbie... Them Mancs need to get a fookin life!!
manure
I felt the same way. Imagine our 'Pool players going there to help the children as well as the manure and then to be treated with disrespect. That was unacceptable in any kind of sportsmanship!
What has happened to this sport?
Fowler
He looked lively and showed some good touches since he's been on.. I tell y a I would love it if either him or stevie could score the equalizer!! ,lol
Too right
It would be the perfect way to start the new era !!!
Bring on the scum in the Champions league ... It's been a long time coming!!
I can see nevilles horrible little face with tears in his eyes as Stevie lifts the big cup over his head whilst the confetti fills the air!!
show-time
awesome
OH WHEN THE REDS oh when the reds OH WHEN THE REDS go marching in....what a game and what a performance from the lads...in my opinion javier mascherano gets man of the match he was outstanding...hope aurelio gets better soon.
i was wrong!
what a performance tonite! superb stuff! there's me thinking it'd be cagey! ha! ha! hope aurelio will be ok, it was the only black spot on a superb nite, his injury is a bad 1. crouchy, 4 goals in 2 games? your having a laugh!!
Mascherano was great,
Mascherano was great, unlucky to get booked. Whats up with Crouch, is he finally listening to his coaches or did they remove the nerves from his face so that he doesn feel any pain? Or did he realise that it doesn't matter how hard he heads the ball, he just can't get any worse looking. Joking aside, nice to see the team killing off games and finally doing things the easy way. No heart attacks tonight and well worth skipping off work 40 minutes early. If my boss is reading, I stayed late and got started on tomorrows work. C'mon RED-MEN!!!
Fantastic result!!
We started off cagey and the first 20 mins wasn't anything to write home about but we got 3 away goals!!
PSV were unbelievably poor and I really struggle to see how they managed to beat Assnal, could Alex really make that much of a difference ??
Crouch got a hard time from the Ref it seemed that he only had to stand beside an opposing player before he was guilty of a foul!! Madness !!
Mascherano is THE REAL DEAL .. proper class... it was an absolute pleasure watching the little general 2nite!! Any aspiring Def Mids out there should base their game on him!!
Khuyt on this form needs to pick up the pace and should have been replaced by Bellamy who would have ripped that defense to shreds.
Aurellio is just so unlucky through out his career with injuries and that was always gonna be a problem Just hope he gets well soon!
All in all great result ....
Last Night
Another great European night. I agree with the other posts Mascherano was outstanding. The change in Crouch is beyond me - should have broke his nose 12 month ago !!!! Aurelio looked good, let's hope the injury is not as bad as first thought. Benitez needs to transfer his European management to the Premiershp - it's like watching two different clubs. Aston Villa away and now this - I'm off to the pub. Totally baffled.
40m to spend on players?
if you was manager of LFC, which players would you sign and sell in the summer 07?. i still think 40m is not enuff for rafa. he should be given at least 50m. the Quality of players he needs to sign, will cost over 10m each.
Valencia look powerful
I think we would be better if we get Chelski in the semi as Valencia looked very good tonight. Chelski at home are very powerful yet Valencia held them. If they knock Chelski out then they will be full of confidence. I reckon we have a better chance to reach the final against Chelski but who knows.
Great to see a serious player like Mascherano come into the team. His intelligence and ball retention is badly needed. Kuyt looks worn out and is very average at the moment so Crouch and Bellamy would be my partnership for the semi-final. Still love to see Joaquin join us this summer as he looked like a player we could really use again tonight with his pace and skill. I fear the rumours about Darren Bent are true; can we really afford to take such a risk on a player who has never played for a bigger club than Charlton, has a handful of England caps and is of no interest to the other top 4 clubs? I wouldn't go near him.
give him a chance
True 1Red1Pool but maybe I'm a dreamer and perhaps the kid can come good at LFC!!
Think back when ETO first came on the scene at that small little spanish club (forget it's name) and now he is at all conqouring Barca! Have a little faith in the UK production of footballing talent.
Bent is young pacy has skill and a great shot .. with the right development and service he could be a great signing. I really don't see Eto or Villa leaving spain for the Mersey, and with only 40mill it will be even harder for Rafa to blow that on 2 players.
We all know england caps don't mean shit these days and are not a good measure to judge a player by!! Until a decent manger is in charge of the national squad the caps mean as much as a nike one from foot locker so don't worry about that!!
the sale of Cisse and perhaps Pongolle could bring the exciting talent of Bent ... we should have a look!!
True about England caps when
True about England caps when you see the likes of Andy Johnson getting picked!
I just think he just won't ever be good enough for a club like Liverpool from what I have seen of him. Jermaine Defoe looks more capable of the step up to a club like ours yet I wouldn't pay over 9-10 million for him either. Until Bent proved himself at a Tottenham or a Villa first then I doubt he could make the jump in quality to a super club like Liverpool and have all that pressure on him. Can we afford to pay 12-15 million on a striker with so many question marks? I'd much prefer go the extra few million for a proven top class striker.
Bent might indeed turn out to be good; but we need a great striker. We have 4 good ones already. Eto'o Villa, Trezequet, Torres, Klose Owen or Anelka would be my choices way ahead of Bent.
It doesn't matter who we
It doesn't matter who we get. I've said this before. In this competition you need to beat the best to win. They are all potentially tough games. I just want to see Chelski and Man U knocked out as quickly as possible. Because I think we are better equipped to beat the continental teams. Its true we can beat all the teams left, but with the English clubs knowledge of us they hold the biggest threat to us retaining old big ears.
Better see Chelski win than ManUre!!
The premier league is already out of our reach, BUT i would rather see the Chelski of arrogant maurinho win the league title than ManUre, there is only 3 point difference between them now, hope chelsea can climb that!!
Coz only one team has 18 league title, the one and mighty liverpool and ManUre is getting closer, especially in the past 15 years, so hope they just fall apart like Assnal, OUT of each and evry competition without a trophy this year!!
What u guys prefer??
chelski no doubt
Chelski to win no doubt about it...i cheered my lungs off today when i heard the news that pompy won..come on chelski ...ffs cant believe im saying this but thats how it is.
the title.....07/08
being honest i'm not interested who wins the title this season, it is not important to liverpool football club who wins it as we are not in the running. what matters is consolidating 3rd place and winning the champions league, nothing else. title talk ended back in september! yes it was nice to see the mancs slip up today but the harsh reality is we are not in their league are we? we have to dig deep and make sure next season we are not talking about what might have been.
forget about what is going on above us and let's concentrate on liverpool football club and what we can still achieve this season!
