Club confirms Voronin deal

Liverpool have confirmed that striker Andriy Voronin will join in the summer on a free transfer.

Voronin's agent last week confirmed the deal, saying :  "It's a four-year deal,"We had some other options but Liverpool have always remained our priority.

"We agreed everything long before but only now decided to announce the signing

Today LFC have announced on their official site that the Ukrainian will sign on.

Voronin has 5 goals in 40 appearances for his country, and this season has scored 6 goals in 21 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.

It's a strange signing. He's not exactly a prolific goal scorer. But then Benitez's managerial successes in the past have not been based on prolific strikers. His top scoring striker in his last league winning season at Valencia was a lad called Mista and he only scored 7 or 8 league goals. In '05 he had three top scorers Baros, Luis Garcia and Gerrard. All with 13 goals in all competitions. He's clearly lookin at other attributes when he looks at signing new strikers. The first thing I look at when we're linked with a striker is his goal scoring record. Voronins is not impressive and hasn't been throughout his career. On the other hand, his record in Germany is similar to that of Dimitar Berbatov who for Spurs this season has scored 15 in 29 starts. 7 of these in 22 league games. But the spurs man is a bit younger and already more experienced with Voronin only playing top flight football in Germany since his 2004 transfer to Bayer.

strikers

i see the press merry-go-round regarding our "new strikers" has started. all the usual suspects are named: bent, villa, e'to etc, etc. with voronin alresdy coming it is sensible to say only 1 more striker will come. we all know deep down robbie might be on his way{shame} and if newcastle offer 12m for crouch again we have to take it. basically it could be 2 in & 2 out. kuyt is safe, he is gonna be at anfield for years to come but with rafa liking 4 strikers to choose from it is gonna be interesting to see who rafa decides to let go.
i like crouchy and bellamy, the fans do to.
on to sat and we can't afford no slip up's against the mancs. a draw wouldn't hurt us but we must go for the 3pts. expect liverpool to come out the blocks like we did against chelsea at anfield!!! let's spank the mancs!!!

I missed that hint...

Fowler might be on his way? Bloody hell, I never imagined that one. He's wanted to play for the Gods of Football since he was 11, he's God on the pitch and he might be on his way? Jeez...

torres

iam not sure he is ready for the prem and20 plus millon is a lot eto is older but i think he would score more goals than torres who i think would take time to adapt to the prem

Striker

Try 2 get good player like eto.torre s,Liverpool must win atleast champion league. You cant be walk out without trophy.good luck poollllllllll

keep dreaming...

Thats what we can do, Rafa may most probably bring a striker from italy than from spain this time.. he is the type of manager who even with lots of money will prefer to spend carefully..
As for Fowler, anybody who is a Real Liverpool fan will love to see him stay, scores some more goals for us and be there to lift the Premierleague title...
Any good money coming for Crouch, he should certainly be sold..No good if we wanna win the title.
However if by mistake rafa decide to go for Spanish league striker, as another fan said, Eto will be much better option than Torres, better experience, more hunger, good technique and ability..
Hope our dreams come true :)

Anelka ??...Maybe

Ok, i know what your going to say Le Sulk and all his baggage, but think about it, Anelka is a briliant striker , wherever he has played he has scored goals, fact!!

I thought he was treated rather harshly by Houllier when he was with us and should have been given more time to settle in and adjust, but obviously he wasnt part of Houlliers bigger plans.

I mean with all this talk of buying spanish strikers and i've nothing against them, but the obvious obstacle, they have is the settling in time to the Premiership. Of the other Premiership strikers, really theres only Darren Bent, who could be priced at enormous sums.

So maybe its no harm for Rafa, to enquire about Anelka, he has the experience of playing in the Premiership and his link up play is class. I dont know what others think and i could be wrong, but i think Anelka would be a fantatstic addittion to the squad.Obviously Big Sam would have a hefty price on him, but as i said maybe theres no harm in enquiring about it.

What does anyone else out there think?????

I thought Anelka should have

I thought Anelka should have been bought as soon as Benitez arrived; Morientes was bought instead and couldn't adapt to England. Maybe Villa or Torres will be the same.

I'd sell Crouch for 10 million to Newcastle and buy Anelka for the same money. The guy is a class player; he just needs a class team. Darren Bent has never played at a huge club so who knows how he might react; unless we got him cheap he'd be too big a risk. Anelka on form is a truly world class striker.

good idea

i think its a good idea when he was with us he WAS scoring & passing good dont know abt getting rid of crouch though id say get rid of bellamy & zenden they are crap.same as gerrard when he 1st came 2 the club he was fast now look at him

lets have a look...

Is he able to pull it off in the prem??Has good anticiation of where the ball is going though ,but the service he gets is great...would he get the same passes in liverpool to score such simple tap ins??

How ambitious are we?

Last night was hard but I am proud of the team because, in reality, that 11 players are not the best team in England, never mind Europe. They did the best they could and to reach a European Cup final is superb. 2 in 3 years is brilliant with such a lack of top class quality up front and in some other positions.

But the time has come now for Liverpool FC to really push on. We haven't won the league in 17 years. We haven't competed for the top players in England for over a decade since Stan Collymore signed.
Our history is the best in British football. One of the very best in world club football. Our fans are definitely the best in the world.

But you look at the Real Madrids, AC Milans & Barcelonas and somehow they always seem more ambtitious than Liverpool. More determined to succeed by signing class players all the time. More ruthless in their business dealings and more demanding of their teams.

It seems we're going to get a 75,000 seater stadium. This is brilliant news. Anfield is a magical place but it is too small for a huge club. The fact Aston Villa and Everton have a stadium as big as ours proves we have to move to a huge stadium for a huge club.

But also in the transfer market Rafa Benitez needs to sign a few "stars" to boost our profile. People want to watch world famous players; we need a few of them at Anfield.

Real Madrid are on 9 and now Milan are on 7. We're on 5 European Cups, but we must strive now to get more. To catch and pass Milan in the next ten years. These clubs are the yardstick and now we must surpass them. It's time for Liverpool to be the best club in the world again, on and off the pitch. We have such potential to achieve it; I just hope the Americans can do it. And I hope Rick Parry goes because his caution always holds us back.

Rafa means business now!

Just read these quote from him this morning and they sound exiting!!

"We must not waste this moment. We must move quickly to sign our number-one targets.

"If we wait we will be chasing the players who are second and third on our list. We need to change the structure of the club on and off the pitch.

"We must make progress, and make it now to take us up two or three levels straight away."

"There will be several players leaving. We will wait for offers.

"I have been told by the new owners that they will back my plans. But when you look at the champions Manchester United spending £20million on a midfield player, and we have been paying just £8-to-£9million for our strikers, you know what must be done.

"We must spend big and spend now. Our fans know what we need to do and so do I. We need to pay the price needed for each position."

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! NO MORE SHITE PLAYERS FOR 6-7 MILLION!

Hope we get a good striker!!

Hope he spends the money to get good strikers, coz when other players make efforts and sees no goals upfront they get upset and has a tendency to concede more goals...The best defence is to attack, liverpool should start moulding an attack minded team, apart from the 2 central defender everybody should be or become prolific scorers or be shipped out!!!
