Voronin in... who's out?

Liverpool FC

Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is to join Liverpool in the summer on a four-year deal according to the BBC. Voronin has scored 6 goals in 20 games for Leverkusen this season with 27 goals in 67 total appearances.

Voronin's previous stats are 29 goals in 75 appearances for FSV Mainz (2000-2002) and 5 from 19 for FC Koln (2003-2004)

Voronin said "I have been in Germany for ten years now, that is a long time, I want to see something else."

With the entry of Voronin who is 27 years old will we be keeping 5 or 6 strikers? Kuyt, Bellamy and Crouch seem secure which leaves out on loan Cisse and Fowler to be the most likely suspects.

Why buy Voronin?

I read that we're being linked with this Bayer Leverkusen guy Voronin and I hope it's false. I've seen the guy play a bit when watching German football and I can't see what he would add to a Liverpool team that craves a title.

We want to win the title not hang around in 3rd or 4th. I don't see point in buying players like this and selling them 2 years later. Rafa spent 7 million on Crouch and 6 million on Bellamy. Neither are the real class striker we need yet together they were 13 million pounds. That would buy David Trezeguet.

I fear Benitez is always anxious to buy these workhorse players instead of putting all his money on one world class player. We have a squad of good players but only 2 or 3 great ones among them. That's not enough to win the title; yet now we're linked to Voronin. Free transfer or not he's no good for a club of our ambitions. Like Nunez, Josemi, Zenden and co.. before him. Why bother with them? Have we not seen enough unknown players of this type under Houllier and Rafa?

Just another Rafa's workhorse!!

Thats what is Voronin, he can keep the ball, he will run all around the field, he will pass it inteligently to our defenders and goalkeeper.. Everything EXCEPT that he will not score against big teams!!
I don't kno why rafa always like these types of players, thats the only difference between him and wenger, he chooses shit players..LFC need a quick striker with a killer strike, not a striker who has scored only 6 goals an entire season. Maybe he gonna complement crouch upfront and kuyt willl be sold. What an excellent striking pair we'll have, the best one to score goals against second division teams!!!!!
Great deal Rafa! keep it on..

He has scored 10 goals in his first 16 starts for Recreativo. He's not gone more than two starts without scoring, and his record speaks for itself. Although he's been a success in Spain this season, do you think he has a future at Anfield?

The problem is, I don't see how he'll ever get a regular place in our team, especially if we're looking at the likes of Villa and Eto'o(if we ever get any of them). And has he scored enough in the past to merit another chance?

Although I wouldn't be devastated, it would be a little disappointing if he left at the end of the season. Perhaps we could loan him out (one last time) to another Premiership club, to see how he fares. If he does a Le Tallec, then we can get rid. At least then we'll really know whether he's good enough.

Regardless of his decision..i wish him the best in spain or where ever he ends up..he played vital games for us and scored the odd goal or two.

tonight and beyond

the whiff of athens is well and truly in the air for reds worldwide. the psv game will be a cagey 1,and it wouldn't surprise me if a single goal doesn't decide it over both legs. we have to take each game as it comes, wether in the champ league or prem league. we can't afford to take anything for granted. if we procede in the champions league whoever we face in the semis, chavski or valencia, that game alone is worthy of the final.
as for the money available for rafa to spend i see the papers are already spending it for him! bent, et'o, villa etc, etc. one thing we know rafa won't waste it and just buy to stop others getting them and hardly play them like chavski do. yes, et'o would be a fantastic signing but we need a prolific stiker who is a predator in the 6yard box. there are few and far between available. david villa would fit that bill to a certain extent. and don't think michael owen is out of the picture either. a fully fit owen wearing the red of liverpool again? i'd take it!
