Raul in Liverpool Link
Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid captain Raul could be on his way to Anfield.
Spanish newspaper 'AS' today has a front page spread titled "Raul Oferta Del Liverpool", and then goes on to talk about Raul having worked with Rafa Benitez when the Liverpool boss was in charge of the Real Madrid reserve team; Castilla. Raul has a contract for 3 more years at the Bernebeu, but faces competition in the starting line up from Robinho, Higuain, Cassano, Ronaldo, Reyes and Van Nistelrooy. It also says that they could be ready to show him the exit door in June .
Sky Sports News earlier this morning showed a presenter with the newspaper, who also gave a quick talk about the story.
Raul visited Anfield on numerous occasions last year, when good friend Fernando Morientes was playing for the club, however, this does not mean he is set to sign, but, AS also employs highly respected journalist( and Liverpool fan) Guillem Balague, close friend and biographer of Rafa Benitez, so perhaps there could be something in the article.
For those of you who can read/understand Spanish, the full article is here
Online translators only give a basic gist of the story, so get your dictionary out!

Raul
Raul would be a great signing, We could do with another striker, my only worry is will he be the same as Morientes; quality in la liga, but cant cut it over here?
I would welcome Raul to our team, i think he could be a good target man, hes a good header of the ball, and can hit it better than anyone

You'll never walk alone
raul and title chances
let raul stay in spain, and sign 2 defenders with pace, a goalkeeper that has a presence and no fear, 2 proper wing men(with pace) and an eye for goal, 2 strikers that score 20-25 goals a season with pace, darren bent would be a good start, let fowler retire, send crouch to newcastle, buy david villa and lets get r season going.
Raul
I Would Like Raul To Come To Liverpool Becuse He Is A World Class Player But Were Would We Be Getting The Money From
Raul
Remember how well the Morientes & Raul parntership worked.
We could do with an experienced player like this but with kuyt/bellamy/crouch/fowler someone is definately going to have to make way.

It's glory round the fields of Anfield Road
Raul: big name
Raul was a great player a few years ago but realistically he's been very average for Madrid for over 2 years and has been in and out of the Spain team, too.
I can't see a guy who has spent his life at Real Madrid in sunny Spain playing with Zidane, Figo and Ronaldo coming over to Liverpool at nearly 30 years of age and being a great success. He is a smaller guy than Morientes and we all know Nando didn't like the physical side of the Premiership so Raul would be worse, I'd think. Big names are worthless unless they perform. Odds are Raul wouldn't in England.
raul and title chances
your 100% right he is finished we would be getting real madrids rubbish why dont we sign these big name players in their prime 23-28. well always be chasing 3-4 place unless we replace reina, finnan, rilse, crouch, hypia, pennent, gonzalez, have a good think about it do u think chelsea, arsenal, man u would play liss lot, i dont think so. they are average players not good enough for liverpool and a serious title charge.
Ahem
I don't mean to be patronising or condesending, but are you a fan of Liverpool at all, are you even a fan of the english language?
Firstly, Reina is only 23, and he is one of the best goalkeepers in the EPL. He is compared with the likes of Van Der Sar, who is finishing his career. I think that Reina can quite easily become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Finnan has been one of the soundest players for Liverpool since he was signed a few years back. Just because he doesn't grab the headlines doesn't mean he is a bad player, he will always churn out the performances. I personally think that if Finnan was English then he would be as highly praised as Gary Neville is.
Rilse? If you mean Riise then that is touch and go. Getting rid of Riise would leave us with 1 LB and 1 LWB, in Warnock and Aurelio respectively. I would rather get rid of Warnock before I got rid of Riise but that is just my opinion.
Crouch has already been discussed to death, you can make your own decisions on that, I'd rather Liverpool sold Fowler than Crouch, even though Fowler is God.
It's sad that you have put Hyypia (yeah, with 2 Y's) in this list, considering that he and Carragher are the foundation of one of the soundest defenses in the League. You may be thinking that Agger can replace him, but Agger is still young and inexperienced.
And on Pennant and Gonzalez well I dont have an opinion really, I think we need a right winger and if one isn't readily available with the crossing and pace capabilities of Pennant then I think he should stay, same with Gonzalez on the left. Also, if you think that we should also get rid of Riise then you are leaving the LMF position a little thin. Injury prone Kewell and under-performing Garcia would be the options.
And finally, u and liss aren't words. In fact I laughed a lot when I read liss, I presume you watch more TV than read?
Anyway, YNWA
Lucas Neill looks like he
Lucas Neill looks like he will sign for the Unhappy Hammers and if so, it says everything you need to know about the man. Personally, I am glad anyway because I seen him recently and his lack of pace was brutally exposed. He has never played for a huge club and I doubt he is good enough to be honest. He might have been a good sub but that's all he would have been at Liverpool.
Re: Hyypia, he is 33 and however good he has been he is declining; his age means he'll only get worse. I believe it imperative we sign Ledley King this summer because he knows the Premiership inside out, he has the pace we need beside Carragher and any time he has played centre back for England he has proved he has the quality.
remember how morientes was
remember how morientes was?Raul is alot older and would have the same impact ie.good for nothing ...why are we linked with players like this and why are we only talking about moves for players in the summer...17 days left for us to actually but someone ..if we are looking for real madrid players why not get robinho why get raul ?
Real Madrid Rejects AFC
I'll be annoyed if we sign another has-been from that circus of a club.
Raul is past it; there's no way on earth he'd be a success in the faster, stronger Premiership.
It would be a ridiculous signing, frankly.
Please no.
All Change??
We sould have bought Baptista, Denilson, Evra, Diaby, vidic and when Houllier was manager Rosicky but we cannot blame these managers for not buying the better players because we do not have the same buying power as you Arsenal, Man U or Chelsea.
I agree Raul would be another "luxury" player, but if we take him on loan he could become good. You never know.
If DIC take Liverpool this year I think a few players will definately be going and we will have a really good squad for 07/08 season.
Not the answer
I don't think Raul would be the answer, but you never know. He's gone stale at REAL and maybe a move to LFC could kickstart his career again. He still has that touch of class and could prove vital. He's 29 now (30 in june), and if he could come good we might get 3 or 4 years out of him. Worth signing on loan with view to permanent move.
acidtone ...who are u talking
acidtone who are u talking about i cant see a post on the site that mentions what u have been talking about...anyways i agree with ur comments 100% and especially about riise ..who in their right mind would want to get of JAR he is the best out there ...and that also includes ashley (money loving) cole!
ACIDTONE
Couldn't have said it better mate!! Hope your comment put things into perspective for some of our fans. I really have hope for Jeramaine Penant don't ask me why, he's gonna be a star 4 Liverpool i assure you. As for our God, Robbie.... i think he should take my advise and do this.... he needs to have a look at the robbie fowler, GOD of REDDS website n reminiscence of what an ace he used to be, maybe he'll feel like how he felt back then n feel like a star, that might help him get back on track, n please people, he's never too old to regain form... look at Luis Figo, gone old but still kickin it!
Liverpool really have to buy proper name brand players coz our club is big enough to match up to any other in the world, so we need world renouned players to show how big and dominating we can really be!!
Thanks
thanks a lot, glad you agree with me.
scouse4life, I was replying to the comment "raul and title chances".
And regarding Hyypia's age. I think that you can get away with having an older CB, it is a position which requires experience and Hyypia is one of the most experienced around. I'd rather have Hyypia and Carragher for a few more years, until Agger, Paletta and Insui adapt to the Premiership.
In my opinion, Agger tries the long ball too much, and he doesn't pull it off enough.
And I don't think that Ledley King will be of Liverpool standard once the takeover goes through. He is a good player, but can be quite inconsistent.
wow
Cannot believe the way the tabloids and media are hyping the game on the weekend, you would have thought the Russians were about to let off nukes! Like to say I agree Pennant has a big future at the club as well and with 3 or 4 top quality players (Macherano / Alves / Bent / Lucas / ) we'd do well next term. God I hope the take over happens and we can take the next step!
Jan Vennegor of Hesselink????
Is he really on his way to Anfield? I'd love to see that, world class quality striker, the perfect one to complement Dirk kuyt.
He'd be an impact if he comes to lfc.
Get lennon!! The great winger
yeah, i think we need quality players to play on the wings, and a player like Aaron lennon would be a great addition to the team with his pace, ability for cross, dribbling and taste to try new things as well as venturing in the opposition square.
He is certainly much more better than Pennant so i think he is among the players we reallt need to complete the liverpool fc puzzle.
We can pay big money for him but am sure he is valuable money spent!
We can't keep waiting for eternity till some players get to there best forms!! Arsene Wenger is a great manager, if he rejected him from his arsenal team it should certainly be because he did not had the potentials as Fabregas, van persie, reyes or henry in him!
Alvaro Arbeloa
" Liverpool are set to sign Deportivo La Coruna right-back Alvaro Arbeloa, according to the Primera Liga side." (BBC online )
Never heard of the guy. Anybody please enlighten me. Thank you.
