Give Rafa a break!

rafabenitez Just two defeats, and now so called Liverpool fans are calling for the head of the manager? What happened to standing by the team you support? Yes we are out of the cups, but it is NOT the end of the world!

I have been reading several different LFC/football forums, and have seen the same thing repeatedly : "Sack Rafa", or "Time for Benitez to go", and other such crap.

Are these people having a laugh? When Rafa was criticised for his rotation policy, the whole of Anfield stood up and sang his name for the duration of a whole match, and then on message boards there was nothing but support for Mr Benitez?

How many of you think Rafa was not pissed off with the carling cup game? everyone is making out like he does not care. He fielded a team he thought was capable of winning that tie. Do you honestly think he went into the dressing room and said "well in lads"? I really doubt it, the same man who immediately after the final whistle in the Champions League final went to the players individually and told them where they had gone wrong?

Some people are forgetting what he has done for this club, I know it was over a year ago since we won in Europe, but so what? 21 years was the last time we won the European cup before that. He and the team were behind wonderful nights at Anfield, including Juventus and of course Chelsea.

Then again, he gave us another important trophy, the FA Cup. Also in his time here we have been at a carling cup final (if we didnt take that competition seriously would we have got there?) we have won the community shield, and the Euro Super Cup.

Also, who has he brought in? Well first of all he must have had an influence on Gerrard staying at the club. He has brought in Alonso- would you let him go? NO. Sissoko- his work rate for team is unbelievable. Luis Garcia- as frustrating as he is sometimes, without his contribution and goals we would have not won the European cup OR the FA Cup.

He also brought Fowler back to Anfield, everyone had wanted that day for so long. Also Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch, Daniel Agger, Jose Reina. How many of these people would you not want in the Liverpool team?

Rafa also moved Carragher to the centre of defence, under Houllier he played as right back more often than not.

Benitez has the support of the players, when Gerrard's future was in doubt, he said "regardless of my future, Rafa will lead this club to great things". If you went into the Liverpool dressing room and said do you want a new manager, i guarantee they would all say no.

All these dickheads calling for Rafa's head, where is the sense in bringing in a new manager now? that would mean turfing more players out, bringing more new people in who are going to need time to adjust to the League.

If the proposed takeover goes ahead, we will be able to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Man United in the transfer market. But at the same time, Rafa lives for football. So many different people have said this, If you read "A season on the Brink" even his wife says she cant distract him from the game. Benitez himself says he has sleepless nights thinking about the team. This is the type of manager we want at this club! If we are to compete with the rest of the big guns, we also need the fans on the side of our manager, so stop going on, and look to the future.

We are facing Barcelona soon, if we win that game, everyone will be out saying "Rafa is the right man for the job"- He already is, we lost TWO games, so what , get over it.

Everyone wants progression, and the main place we need to progress is the league, so forget the Carling Cup, leave that for the Chavs of Chelsea to take, because they certainly cannot beat us in European competition or in the FA Cup!

topscout Rafa is the manager

topscout

Rafa is the manager to take the club forward and bring trophys to the club. the only thing rafa gets wrong in my view is SIGNINGS of players. this is where he gets things wrong ie rafa signs 5 players and after 6 months, he will sell 4 of his signings. I would like rafa to sign players of better quality, that is already at the club and i would like the board to give rafa a huge budget in the summer, so he can sign the best players out there, even if it means signing a player(s) for 25m, torres, swp 10m, duff 7m, appiah 6m, abidal 7m, andrade 7m, D Bent 8m. QUALITY players will win games n trophys.

Is Benitez Blind????

Sometimes i wonder about this question when he do his Rotation trick, he puts players who don't fit in the match, for example against team like arsenal he field hypia who does not has pace to go play against the rapid strikers, when playing big teams he field crouch and play long balls, the other teams manager has already knew his tactics well before the match and already prepare something to prevent this strategy from working!!
So is he blind???
The rotation stuff is enervating all the fans, and in all forums and everywhere u can see that, yet benitez can't see that, is he blind????
the stikers are not scoring yet he kept playing them, is he blind???
Man u need to be hard as other managers, sell useless players, bring performant ones, kno ur winning team and keep playing them!
A team is build when the players kno each other well, but unfortunately in liverpool the players don't kno their colleagues, the proof is balls are always too long or too short for bellamy, kuyt only kno bellamy even if another player is free to take the chance...

Its sad for Rafa

I feel it for Rafa but in all honesty is he cut out for the English premiership and more importantly is a big club like Liverpool the place to test this experiment?? He makes a point that he doesn't have much money and that the youth system that should be in place to develop future talent is shite! But when he does spend money he doesn't spend it to wisely. Since coming to anfiled he has spent over 70 mill in three years and thats not to be sniffed at! Yes we've won he champions league but the football we play is not 'the beautiful game'. Maybe i'm spoilt but i remember old Liverpool squads stringing together 30 passes to the total frustration of the opposition. These days if we string any amounts of passes together its like to be across our back four and then to alonso and bk again! A lot of the fire is aimed at Rafa because the team no longer plays breathtaking foot ball and it seems a bit too mechanical! I'm just struggling to find the positives in all this... yes we have some talented players but they seem to be individuals if that makes any sense?? We can win over the weekend and paper over the cracks and laugh and sing about ynwa but the route this club is taking is not fair on the supporters! the way football is right now means you have to consider the future and it points to a core of 4 main teams and the rest making up the numbers. Who remembers Nottingham forest, if you don't believe a big club can fall from grace / leeds! We need the correct infrastructure in place in order to take the next step.. I would not be at all surprised if a few months down the line we hear some adverse news about the health of the club because things aren't making sense.
Why is the future of such a big club being handled so unprofessionally??

Rafa has definitely made

Rafa has definitely made mistakes. He needed a world class defender like Ledley King to replace Hyppia last summer. I do not believe Carragher and Agger will win us the title as a defensive duo. We need experience and speed beside Jamie to have a solid base. The team lacks any real creative spark of class and Rafa is clearly one of those managers that puts shape and organisation ahead of style and technique. That's fair enough when you win, like Mourinho, but even the special one is under pressure now for his ugly style and poor results of late.

In reality, however, even if we fear Benitez's style will not win the title for us, and I fear the amount of wins needed to win the title is beyond Rafa's cautious philosophy unless we spend what Chelsea spend on class players, what manager can we hope to get? Will Frank Rijkaard leave sunny Spain for rainy Liverpool? I think not. What other manager is there? Lippi failed at Inter Milan, a club like Liverpool desperate for the title at the time. Ottmar Hitzfeld knows zero about life in the Premiership and is getting old anyway.

Who else is there that we could say is honestly going to do better than Rafa at the moment? He obviously deserves more time anyway, but the reality is there is few options to replace him -unless he is drops below 4th spot in the league.

Shhhh!!

The one manager that would give the prem big boys a run for their money is Gus Hiddink!! I think he out of all managers understands the need for youth in a team and would rebuild our academy as well as bring in some very gifted youngsters!
Big fear is that Chelski will line him up for when Mourinho quits in the summer, other than him and the reading manager not much is really on offer!
But something needs to change sooner rather than later

Who will rafa buy in Jan 07

with garcia out for the season, defence leaking goals, rafa still hasn't signed a player that can go straight into the 1st team and with big games coming up, the team needs fresh faces. the players are looking/hoping rafa signs some quality players in the transfer window. ie centrehalf with pace, centre-mid player, striker.

I just think you all should

SCOUSE4LIFE1979's picture

i just think you all should check out what Rafa has said on the offical site ...it makes alot of sense ..but it still hurts to see us go out in such away at anfield.

stubborn

CKane's picture

Unfortunatly some of rafas decisions do not work out, but he can't hold his head up in such cases and admit where he went wrong. Dudek was terrible against arsenal in the F.A cup and yeyt he chose to select him again and defended that decision. he does when crouch doesn't perform and he says that he will never be sold because he is 'one of our best players'. well if that is the case then Liverpool are doomed if a striker who rarely scores OR sets up goals is one of our elites
fair play to Dudek who admitted that Rafa was wrong to play him, saying that he did't have enough previous experience early in the season or even on the training ground.
Maybe now rafa will stop being stubborn and admit that some, and only some, of his choices are shoddy and cause more problems than they solve

Really Stubborn.

i agree perfectly that liverpool can't win the title till Rafa remains stubborn, Crouch is not good, he scores only against lowly teams like watford or wigan, not even those like sheffield.
So if Rafa remains stubborn, no way we'll see the title at anfield!

RAFA THE KING

crouch is a great player, hes scored more than any liverpool player, so y does everyone still talk about him, hes already scored 12 goals this season or was it 11 compared to kuyt 8 which is also good, but please stop criticising him, give him a bloody chance for gods sake. RAUL NO WAY TOTAL FAILURE 3 goals this season and last season 5 goals hes not worth the money fowler is much better. even though i rekon it was a mistake to take him back and the idiot that was talking about our youths what the hell is wrong with em weve already signed two youngsters and 2 more on the way the swedish star and the argentinian, therez also the ones that we have now miki roque -david martin -peltier-guthrie-hamil-darby lindfield-nabi elzah-barragan and were geting more and more everyday, so THANKYOU RAFA YOU ARE THE BEST

Crouch!!! Good for lowly teams!

we need a player who can scores against the top teams in premiership, and that is certainly not crouch, just find out which are the teams against which he scored those 12 goals and u'll get ur answer if he is good or not, even players from our reserve teams would have had scored against watford, charlton, wigan etc.. who are fighting to avoid relegation.
Had he been a good striker we would not have had to wait 17 match to see him score last year, Fortunately Fowler was here to score those six crucial goal in his 5 appearances, else we would have been 5th in the premiership last year if we would have been waiting for crouch!!!
HE IS GOOD FOR NOTHING APART FROM LOWLY TEAMS!!!!

the issue

Mate i think the point that was being made if you'd care to read and understand it... is that yes we do have a youth team but unfortunately they are not very good and because of the clubs policy of not paying for young players this is likely to increase and will ultimately bee a problem for the future for the club, with so little money knocking about! I'm sure even in your rose tinted spectacles you could see the different level of class wenegrs kids had in relation to our own. That my friend is the issue

throwing insults around..

SCOUSE4LIFE1979's picture

Throwing inuslts around on this site is really sad !!As liverpool fans we should stick together and try not insulting one another by calling each other "idiots" and what not.Everyons is entitled to their own opinion here and insulting a person from behind a screen is kinda stupid. Why not save the insults to the other fans who are insutling us ...and show them why us liverpool fans stick together!

Bigger picture!

Philk14's picture

Although its nice to bag trophies in a season the two domestic trophies are not vital in the bigger picture of LFC. We had a potential fixture pile up on the horizon with the league cup final sandwitched between champions league ties and a replay with Arsenal would have been a disaster in the FA cup. Finishing as high as possible in the league and progressing in europe are paramount to the future stability of the club. TV rights money and prize money is pathetic in the cups compared to the bigger compititions. And with clubs like Arsenal and Man U pulling in crowds of over 65,000 making a fortune in gate reciepts every week its even more important to progress in CL and the premiership. Thats why I'd stand by Rafa in his decision to rest players in the Carling cup as progress there, in the long run could have been more damaging than getting kocked out.
