Liverpool draw Barcelona in Champions League

Liverpool have been drawn against Barcelona in the Champion's League.

Liverpool won group C with a game to spare, after wins against Galatasary, PSV and two wins against Bordeaux.

The 2005 winners could have faced Barcelona, Celtic, Inter Milan, Lille, Porto, Real Madrid or Roma, and were drawn out against Barcelona today. The matches will be played on 20/21 February and 6/7 March and Liverpool will play away first as they won their group.

The 2005 winners face the 2006 winners with the first leg played at the Nou Camp.

Let's hope mr teeth doesn't get too cocky and attempt another one of those free kicks under the wall!

Would rather have had some easier games to get further in the competition but I'm still hopeful - Milan all over again?

It's glory round the fields of Anfield Road

Barcelona Power

Barcelona are in a different category of football. Speed and precision will wipe out the reds. 3-0 in Canp Nou. 1-3 in Anfield. Etoo and Messi will be back and hungry for goals.

superior

Once again people underestimate the powers from Merseyside;tenacity, team play the best captain in Europe right now, and with goals that could come from the anywhere even from the unexpected[Jamie Carragher] Barca should be Afraid,i mean very afraid.

we can win

like we lost to benfica last year in 1/8 same will heapen to barcelona in this season. We can beat BARCELONA!!!

Barcelona

I reckon we could get a draw away from home at the Nou Camp. Benitez has played against these before, and knows how they play. Now they have new players admittedly, but, I think Rafa will go over to Barca with a draw in mind, and just dont let anything in. If we play like we did against Chelsea/Juventus defensive wise then they will have trouble getting through.

Everyone will say about Ronaldinho/Deco etc, but Ronnie was not that effective against Chelsea because they shut him out. All we need is a draw at the Nou Camp then when they come to Anfield we hit them with noise like we did against Chelsea !

attack barca

i don't understand how teams can show barca, manu ect respect.thay are teams that like going forward and don't like to be attacked.e.g look where gary neville is allowed to play.they should be attacked and put under pressure they don't like that

HATE IT OR LOVE GIVE TO RONALDHINO, LIVERPOOL LOOSE

Liverpool is going to be wiped off the map of the Champions league. I personlly thin the injury of etoo and messi have made barcelona an even fierce opponent and Thus the genius of Ronaldhino have even steped-up higher. Ronnie is a genius. People generally hate ronaldhino not for his personallity but for what he can do on the pitch. So i will save to save people dont hate hate hime but rather dread his skills, HATE OT LOVE IT, liverpool you loose!!!!

Fables and fantasies

Ronaldinho is arguably the best player in the world right now,his technique and skill are outstanding but the reality is...Rafa knows them...Liverpool is stronger all round...their defence could use more work...nuff said.

stupid

liverpool's Defence has got to step up....kuyt and gerrard will have to play wonderfully...

attack barca at your peril

any team that doesn't play 5 in defence will be opened up and punished.

hmmm

wary

CKane's picture

I have to say i am a bit wary of this tie but it is possible to beat Barca.
Liverpool just need to watch themselves and not make the usual mistakes. if we tighten up the defence a bit more then we are on our way

No Fear of Barce

Barce were well beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge this year, people forget. Add to this Chelsea drew in the Camp Nou twice in the last two seasons. Also Celtic under Martin O'Neill got two 0-0 draws in the Nou Camp against Rijkaard and Ronaldinho in recent years.

So we can definitely knock them out. The key to the tie is not letting them score early in the Camp Nou. If they do they can be devastating as their confidence rises. We must pose a threat on the counter in the Nou Camp with Bellamy's pace and Gerrard's clever runs into the box. There's no point going there just to defend because they have so many players than can score out of nothing. We need an away goal because they'll get one at Anfield, that seems inevitable.

We have to believe in our own players like Gerrard who can hurt any team, anywhere. And Anfield needs to be like the night against Chelsea - or even louder, against a better team. But if we win, IF WE WIN, then we know there's not a team in the tournament we can't beat!

Kewell is needed

I'm not the biggest Kewell fan but I remember his performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final last year and I hope he's back to face Barcelona. It's the type of game where they'll give him space to play and he is definitely a better left sided player than Gonzales at the moment.

He undoubtedly has the talent to shine on a big stage like that and I hope he's fit. If he plays and is s**t then fair enough, get him off. But I'd perfer to have him fit and ready for Ronaldinho and co...

kewell

lindu's picture

i have a same think with u,he is a really great player n he has show it on world cup,n i think our team need that player when we face barca

Gonzalez

Philk14's picture

I think Gonzalez should play if fit against Barce. He's played against the top teams in Spain and showed he can mix it with them. I said it before, if you can't beat big teams in the Champs league then you might as well pack it in. We beat Juve and Chelski in '05 when nobody gave us chance. Underdogs again, just how we like it. Get the big ones out early and show 'em all that we are the biggest.

i agree

SCOUSE4LIFE1979's picture

i agree phill...we showed what we are in 05 by beating the big guns..im sure we can do it again.

Holiday fixtures

Liverpool-Bolton
Liverpool-Arsenal (FA Cup)

I think if we can come through these games well,Manchester and Chelsea are going to realize the title race is not just between them two.

These, however, are tough fixtures and we may have to set priorities. Is it fair to say that or we're going for the league cup and Fa cup and hope for the best on the league games,or do have have the right sized squad to cope with these fixtures?

gonzalez is class. and

gonzalez is class. and should start on the left wing, he runs at defenders and gets the ball in. he needs games. and we need to buy a right winger!!!! pennant is not good enough!!! simao/daniel alves but please not pennant!!!!

That fair

Philk14's picture

As we saw with the Mancs against the Hammers. The current top 2 are dropping, and will continue to drop, points. This is what Rafa predicted at the start of the season. Lets see how things pan out over the christmas period, a lot of games and a lot of points to be won and lost. Who knows there could be 4 or 5 teams in the hunt come mid January. C'MON REDMEN

go for it

We will beat barsa and showe all world that we are the champs!!!1Bring Owen back

itz guna b a challenge

d game gainst Barca is guna b a challenge 4 Liverpool, but Rafa has d boys traing and HARD n hopefully by den every1 fill b in gr8 shape. Even dough d game iz guna b a tough one 4 our boyz it iz without a doubt dat we r GUNA WIN!

barca over liverpool

it will be a one of the best games but at the end liverpool won't have enough to defeat barcelona

rafa

i think that eejit thats talking about getting rid of rafa hasnt a clue about what he,s talking about best manager we,ve had in years

beat that spanish sheat

wee are the chapiones

Barca game

Disagree - Agger has to play!
Aurelio - liability, but agree with the comment that Riise has to play in midfield - shame garcia isnt playing - seems to bring the goods in Europe (he is still out isnt he?)

And if Momo, Alonso & Stevie are in the side - Stevie will be pused on the wing - which i disagree with. drop alonso and play pennant on the wing! Alonso doesnt have the pace to keep up with the Barca midfield/front line.

I'll take a 1-1 draw and then destroy the spicks at Anfield!
