Our positives and negatives
Ok I think we'll all agree,we've arrived at a period of great uncertainty for this club.Fans seem to split down the middle on the matter of Benitez go/stay.I think we need to discuss what poitives and negatives we have and see if we can come to some sort of agreement on what needs to be done in order to get this club to where we want it to be.
In terms of positives we still have the cl and fa cup so this season may yet give us something to cheer about. In fernando torres,we have 1 of the best strikers in europe, gerrard is arguably the worlds best midfielder, with agger back and skrtel coming in our defence may regain some stability which is badly needed and we also have a great goalkeeper.Benitez also spent big money on young players and our youth team won the fa cup last year so it's good to know that we have talent yet to come through
In terms of negatives,we seem to have an ever increasing list.We are dropping far too many points to well beatable clubs,we've lost more points to the big 3 at home then we did last year and our second half of the season is harder than our first in terms of tough away fixtures. As well as that our manager seems to be under far more pressure than any other Liverpool manager for a long time, our owners have been terribly dissapointing in their approach to Liverpool, they own hockey clubs and american footbal clubs too and its easy to see where they rate Liverpool in terms of priorities, they seem to be obsessed with this new stadium of theres which is being scaled down week by week, wouldnt be surprised if we ended up with something like Craven cottage, finacially they have left us in bad state, they bought liverpool with a loan and are now re financing that loan which isnt good at all, whenever this stadium of theirs is finished I think it will be the end of a great era,Anfield and the kop are what makes this club what it is,eventhough they have promised us a kop end in the new stadium,I dont think it will ever be the same as what it is now.
Now that Anfield is only years away from its destruction,I know we would all love to see the league trophy lifted there one more time, but unless the list of negatives gets drastically cut down, that wont be happening,Benitez gave it a go and gave us the Cl which well remember forever but right now I think hes fresh out of ideas and its time to make a change and see what another manager will give us

Good post Punchy. The primary negatives are we have only two players who can score. Benitez has assembled a midfield who defend but can't score. He has bought strikers like Kuyt and Veronin who don't score. Therefore most of our games are difficult if the opposition sit back because we have so few players to break the deadlock.
Secondly, we never seem to actually go out to win games until the last 10 minutes. Up til then we just keep a shape and make sure we don't concede. This isn't good enough to win a league; you need to be more courageous and go out to win from the first minute by attacking. Benitez doesn't do this. He uses the European defensive tactics in the league and it doesn't work.
I 100% agree with everything you have said punchy, your post is spot on, unfortunately the negatives far outweigh the positives , and if we continue the way were playiong , a mid table position beckons. Rafa has done well for us who can ever forget Instanbul, but he has lost the plot, we are playing like a team who havnt got a clue . The only choice left for Hicks and Gillet is to part company before it becomes even worse.Once again punchy you are 100% spot on in everything you say.
Let's face it, the Reds were woeful today. I cannot fathom why Rafa continues to play Voronin and Riise. They are absolute rubbish. It isn't just their ability which has gne south; it's their confidence. They look lost. Riise is a selfish player who can't hit the broad side of a barn with his so called "powerful left foot," and every time Voronin touches the ball it is a giveaway or an awful decision. Why would anyone fear Liverpool? They can't break down defenses, we have the slowest back four in the league, and our fullbacks do not join the play enough. Does Rafa work on set pieces at all? Apparently not because we had numerous chances again today and failed to do anything. Screw the whining about the rotation policy. We do not have a strong enough 11 players. Rafa says he is done in the transfer window; the Reds are doomed. Villa comes to Anfield next Monday, and Martin O'Neill's side are talented and fearless. Rafa has to get it right: bench Voronin and Riise, stop playing guys out of position, and, if he is not going to give Crouch a legitimate shot to partner Torres, then please, please, please, play Babel up front. I guarantee he will find the back of the net. Give Pennant an honest run at wing and try El Zhar. At least he is hungry to prove himself.
As hard as this may be, I think it would be wise to make the change now and this will give us enough time to adjust an prepare for a brilliant start in the new season. As for our chances of winning any silverware this year... well I am not as optimistic as some but I wouldn't mind a pleasant surprise.
Im not sure if there was any positives after the crap performance we put in yesterday! ok.. apart from torres & stevie g without torres and stevie g in the side we would be further down the pl table i agree with redhot make the change now so that another manager and come in get 2 know the team and players and try and get us in to 4th coz thats all we can go 4 now then rebuild over the summer and really give it a go next season with a top name manager in place. ok.. rafa has won the CL,fa cup etc etc... but im sick 2 death of him picking the wrong players and playing them in stupid positions! & playing utter fcuking crap players & him coming out with his fcuking excuses in after match interviews! ill be happy when rafa is SACKED!!!
