STRIKER needed to partner Torres....
Time for rafa to buy a striker to partner torres upfront in Jan 08. if torres gets injured, then who is going to score the goals and keep LFC challanging for the PL, CL, FA cup till the end of the season. vornonin, crouch, kuyt are not the players to partner or replace torres and score the goals that are needed. i wud like rafa to try and sign david villa again from his old club. if rafa did sign villa, then the torres, villa partnership wud score plenty of goals, this cud be the difference in winning the Pl this season or not, and these 2 strikers also play upfront together for there country, so they no each others game and will form a great partnership in the PL. if rafa can sell crouch,momo, carson for 25m, then i wud like rafa to spend the lot on signing villa. if rafa sells riise 7m, this will allow him to sign a Quality centrehalf also. i think rafa needs to sign 2 Quality players in Jan 08 ie a striker and a centrehalf.
Thats how you sounds mate..no offence, but we need to be realistic at times. To buy Torres, the yanks took a loan of 25 million and have not paid it back yet..other players came from the money rafa made by selling. If he had the money he would have bought an striker by that time instead of getting a back up freebie in Voronin.
Now in January..Do u really think Teams are coming with 10 millions for Craps like sissoko and Crouch??? Stop believing so much in the newspapers, its not so easy to sell players, even Martin Oneil said he has no deal yeat for carson..meaning 10 million is too much for him.
Supposed Rafa succeed to get 20 million by selling would you prefer him to lose mascherano and bring an striker or tie the deal and bring a defender as cover???
Villa is much more the same type of player like kuyt, he is no Torres..and won't come for so cheap as you may be thinking.
We do need a quality striker, but unfortunately it don't seem to be coming in january..may be july.
I cannot agree more the one player we need more than any other is a top quality striker to play alongside torres. However as criticalmind says where will the money come from ? I cannot see anthing happening till the summer. We should get 10m for Crouch maybe 12M if a bidding war occurs, Crouch does score goals has also achieved at International level and 10m is a decent valuation. Caeson should fetch 8m we should include tie ons after all he is Englands up and coming goalkeeper.
Sissoko may well fetch around 5m ,
Risse could fetch 4-5m also, Guthrie has to be worth 3-5m again with tie ons. Then Rafa has to choose what to do, does he tie Mascherano down for 17m ? if he doesnt plenty of other teams will be only too happy to do so. Rafa has allready insinuated that he will buy aa defender, so I cant see him buying another striker, top quality strikers don't come cheaply, Anelka would be good value at 10m, but others like Eto . Villa , would cost 20-25m
so there;s no chance of that happening with our current financial plight. I just hope that Hicks and Gillet come up with the cash in the summer because the likes of Eto Villa will cost big money and it's players like them that are needed if we are to stand any chance of winning the Premiership, TOP QUALITY PLAYERS COST TOP DOLLAR.
july? the transfer window is august mate, and villa would be a great asset, as for mascherano! he is not worth 17m no way, we could by a top class midfielder for that, a fighter and a passionate player!!!.......mddlfc
topscout- we are already being told rafa may not have the money for mascherano so realistically i doubt the yanks will release funds for a striker on top of that. Rafa knows he must sign mascherano and a striker will be further down his Christmas list. its unfortunate for rafa and us in fact as fans because rafa is having to work without knowing what support he can expect. it must be hard to make plans if he doesnt know what players he will have in the future. He has to get on with it with what we have and i just hope mascherano stays. of genuine class players that we have he is only amongst a group of about 4 or 5 which is the minimum we need to develop. rafa is doing a good job to date.
This website probably has the most accurate assessment of the current siutation but I am firmly of the opinion that Benitez is the problem.
Crouch is a hero then he is useless, Kuyt just seems to be useless, Sissoko appears not to be the player we thought he was 12 months ago - opinions make the game and used to fill the pub - before Sky. But the chef cannot blame the ingredients all the time
Opinions change, players come and go - but to bring the trophy home we all want Benitez has to change his stance on rotation or go. Why - simple - a settled side breeds confidence and everyone knows their job. ( See Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish ) Voronin plays - Voronin scores - Voronin gets dropped - Vornonin plays - doesn't score - Voronin plays right wing - Voronin gets dropped. I have no idea what the Ukranian is for "What the f**k is going on" but right now I bet he thinks Dynamo Minsk and -20 degress is a better option. The same can be said for several players - ROTATION does not work. Ask Crouch, Babbel, Benayoun and now even Mascherano gets "rested". Sank without trace at the mighty Reading and just scrambled home against Derby. So and so plays - so and so scores - so and so is dropped / rested - so and so plays out off position - so and so deosn't score and now he is crap. ROTATION does not work.
Benitez now says other teams have 4/5 star quality players who can change games and we need more. Mancs and Chelsea yes - the latest "excuse" falls down at Arsenal. No heroes - can't even name their team. They have a settled side all of whom are strong athletes ( Benayoun and Kewell take note ) but the key to their success is a manager that sticks to the game plan and can motivate his staff. We have Benitez. Gerrard plays in the middle - Gerrard plays on the right - Gerrard plays with too much emoition - Gerrard gets rested. Gerrard has kept this clown a job. Gerrard is our captain. Name any other club that treats its Captain like this - NONE. In the weekend papers Benitez talked of the qualities of Benayoun. Opinions make the game and everyone sees it different - to some Benayoun will be above average or below average but I doubt if anyone thinks he is anything but average. We will not win the Title with the likes of Benayoun - average player though he is when he is constantly rotated. Babbel looks to have some quality. Babbel in - Babbel out -Babbel on the left - Babbel on the right - Babbel in the middle - Babbel scores - Babbel gets rested. ROTATION doesn't work. We have several quality players Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano / Alonso, Carragher, Agger, Reina. The rest need to be motivated - you will never motivate a player when he is in - then out - in position - out off position - score a goal - dropped for the next game - rested - selected. ROTATION does not work. Get off the backs of the players and look elsewhere - Benitez is running out off excuses. Try and pick the team for the City game - says it all. Ok he may rotate, and at the likes of Reading, Dearby etc. maybe he should put the players out who can win the game and then take them off for a rest and be fit for the next game. If you look at the likes of Man u or Chelsea, they do their fair bit of rotation aswell. They do play the same 'spine' in their starting line up but they are changing the other players too. Everyone is going on about Benitez and all his swoping and changing of players, he done this sort of thing with Valencia, and was quite successful and he may be just as sucessful with it in the PL. Another thing is this, if he did not rotate the other players, ie. those not getting a game would be dissilusioned at that and rightly so. And also if they are hardly playing at all they might aswell not be there. When everyone is getting a game they are all on their toes, as they will be called on to do a job for the team. Overall they will be fresh for the last two or three months of the seasons. So Benitez knows this and to be fair to him he is getting paid big money to do this job, he knows better than any of us.
The yanks have to realise that the modern game requires alot of funds in order to challenge at the top,when they bought Liverpool they had competition from that guy from Dubai who in my oppinion would have been far better,but now that the club is theirs it would be criminal to deny us the funds they promised when they first bought the club
That aside I've always thought a small offer for Eidur Gudjohnson wouldnt be too bad,he's totally out of favour at barca and I dont think it would take much to lure him to Anfield.He's not world class by any standards but I think he can do 10 times the job voronin and kuyt can do hereI doubt even benitez wants a striker though,he seems interested in getting another centre back and tieing masch up,if he gets those wishes I think he'll be happy
edit-and by the way otleyred,I agree with everything you said above.I do not like benitez' rotation at all,sometimes I'm made to feel like an idiot when I complain about him and then we go off and beat teams by 3 or 4 goals.But he's made fundamental mistakes that have left us we're we are now chasing the pack as usual.We had a fantastic start to the season untill benitez felt that the Birmingham and Portsmouth games would be perfect opportunities to leave torres at home(4 points dropped).Down 3-1 at reading,he decided to take gerrard and torres off for the Utd game,(possible 1 point dropped)He took gerrard off against everton and thanks to god we got 2 penalties and he was saved from blushing but after the game he said he he took gerrard off for playing with too much passion and that decision was the difference.NO IT WASNT THAT DECISION WAS TERRIBLE!.I think hes destroying careers to an extent there,players like Babel and crouch constantly being tossed around and losing from and confidence,Voronin went from looking decent enough to downright terrible,i'll always support Liverpool no matter what and ill gladly eat my words every week once we win but I do not believe for 1 second this is the right man to take us where we want to go
I totally agree with your views on rotation stulivered , you are spot on with your analergy.Rotation will ultimately be Rafa's downfall, a settled side win matches , all chopping and changing achievs is confusion.The only changes from our best elevan should be when players are injured suspended or out of form.
