WAS RAFA RIGHT TO REPLACE GERRARD ECT AGAINST READING ?
TO MY MIND RAFA THROUGH IN THE TOWEL BY REPLACING TORRES GERRARD AND CARRAGHER AGAINST READING, (EXCUSES MAY BE MADE FOR TORRES IF HE HAD A KNOCK ) BUT BY DOING THIS RAFA WAS CONCEDING DEFEAT WITH TWENTY MINUTES TO GO. WAS THE REASON FOR THIS PRESSURE FROM ABOVE TO QUALIFY FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ( LETS FACE IT THE FINANCIAL GAINS ARE FAIRLY HIGH ), DOESNT IT SEND OUT A MESSAGE TO US FANS THAT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TAKES PRIORITY OVER THE PREMIERSHIP ?. IN ALL MY TIME OF SUPPORTING LIVERPOOL ( 34 YEARS ) I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A LIVERPOOL TEAM GIVE UP ON A GAME, SURELY STEVIE G SHOULD HAVE STAYED ON , HE HAS SHOWN US MANY TIMES BEFORE HOW HE CAN CHANGE A GAME WITH ONE MOMENT OF INSPIRATION, OR WAS RAFA RIGHT FOR NOT CHASING A LOST CAUSE ?
We could have won that game if rafa didnt replace gerrard and torres. He should had replaced crouch or voronin and sissoko with kewell and babel. Reading were using the flanks to attack and we didnt have any wingers to help the defence. The yankees are the one to blame for putting benitez underpressure for champion league knockout qualification. Rafa said the league was priority but the yankees changed it to cl.
The owners are to be blamed, coz the put the pressure for the champions league...
But i also agree for the substitution of gerrard and torres, but it was not done with the proper substitution, Nabil el zhar should have had gone in for Gerrard on the wings to give more rapidity to the game and more crosses for crouch and better link up with voronin, and Kewell for torres so as to allow voronin to move upfront, about sissoko, well. he should have never been in that game, i prefer lucas, am sure he would have had done better job.
Anyway, i still remember when gerrard was substituted against arsenal everybody was against benitez, but look at his improvement rate after knowing that he is replacable if he is underperforming.
Yes mate, rafa threw in the towel alright, not after 70 mins though but with starting the game with no wide men, he was relying on reading playing crap, but coppell would have said to his players before the game to have a right good go at them because of the marseille game, we are still just in touch with the leaders, so not to much damage done, so long as we don't lose the next two games our season is still very much alive, we was unlucky not to get 2nd equaliser, but crap defending for 2nd and 3rd goals, i would stick sissoko in the reserves until he learns to pass the ball like a prem player and not like a pub player or if there are any decent offers for him GET RID and buy someone else in january, i think voronin like crouch can play a part if rafa uses them at right times, kuyt and momo to stay away from 1st team barring emergency, i did'nt think reading played that well but because rafa tinkered needlessly we did not get in thier faces and they had too much time to play with confidence, rafa has not learned that EVERY GAME is important, and to stop putting the noose around his own neck, he gambled it did not pay off on saturday, lets see what happens on tuesday and sunday,
All they are interested in is the money from the CL thats why they wants us 2 do well they dont have this clubs interests at heart all they wanna do is make loads of money out of the club! then move on. and as 4 rafa he threw in the towel by taking of gerrard torres and carragher if we dont win our next 2 games then our season is pretty much over wot u think guys
the reading defeat was unexpected, rafa did shuffle his cards but not in an act of quiting but in order to save something for the club, ITS FUTURE. I would like nothing more than a victory over reading but it wasnt going our way, we could of won but when we shipped 3 it was clear we wouldnt. Gerrard had to be saved for the french and manure and torres to. the truth is this club needs the Champs Leauge, its not greed on the yanks (even though they are) but its about the way the club is budgeted. we have financed with the CL in mind of qualifing every year. To drop out would be a blow to the transfer budget and hindering rafa. Even winning the Prem which isnt certain at all wouldnt give us the required money needed for the jan window or end of season. If we were 6 points from winning the league and it was neck and neck i would be mad with rafa for not going for broke but the truth is he had to play it sensible, if we had lost gerrard and torres, with injury then lost against the french and manure becasue of it rafa would be critised by everyone to. Carra had to be protected due to a yellow card ruling him out for manure, again being sensible Sometimes playing it cautious isnt a bad thing. 3 Points dropped isnt going to be the end of the world, we can recover. losing to the french and manure also would be devasting so we have to think of the bigger picture even though it doesnt sit well with our hearts. I agree with Eddie, in all my time following the reds (first game 1982) i have never seen the reds throw in the towel but i dont think thats what we did on saturday. i believe rafa decided - lose one instead of the season. and if we qualify tonight and go on to beat the mancs, and we are still there over crimbo, rafa's decision will be hailed as a master stroke. it took guts to do what he did, knowing the pressure the man is under from the bosses/unbeaten record/headstrong players in Jamie and Stevie, so i hope it works out for him, he did it with the clubs best interest at heart. We can beat the french and we can beat the mancs. sod chelsea in the cup, give the lads a rest after these two massive games and hammer Pompey 3 days later.
